I grew up in Boston and have been going to Shake the Tree for over 10 years. It’s still my favorite store and I make sure to visit every time I’m in Boston. Great for clothes, holiday gifts, etc. It’s a perfectly curated collection

My family and I always love to stop in here. They have a wonderful and wide selection of items. I recently purchased a winter hat from this store. It was a little expensive but after wearing it I have found that it is best quality hat I have ever owned. Will be back in the future!!

Great gift shop, the owner really has a great eye and keeps it fresh. Gotta say my favorite time of the year here is the holidays because her ornament selection is so unique and good. I’ve purchased frames, books, cards, vases, candles, candy bars etc. as gifts from here. Really great options if you are in a pinch for that certain person you can cheap out on gift wise but you need to not spend a ton. This place is the perfect in between.

Yes it’s pricey but the collection of items is unique. The jewelry items are lovely and the home decor varies from candles to macrame to baskets and more.

I recently did an event at Shake The Tree and the store is amazing! The owner Marian is so hands on, you can tell that she absolutely loves what she does. The store is expertly curated with a wide range of items from cook books, lamps, clothing, and gift items. I will definitely be back!

A wonderfully unique, albeit pricey, local boutique that (I believe) adds inventory almost daily. Everything from woven household storage baskets, to baby onesies, to pocket journals and makeup bags emblazoned with feministy quotes, to bold costume jewelry by local artisans, to adorable incense holders, to can’t-find-elsewhere Infiniti scarves, to colorful designer blouses; this tiny North End enclave houses enough trend- and season- specific beauty and variety to keep you browsing for hours — much of it hand-selected by the owner from the far East, local designers and artists, the west coast of the US, Africa, and beyond. Again, know that if you bought every single item that caught your eye, you’d probably be throwing down some serious change. This isn’t a bargain palace by any stretch, but a lot of heart and thought goes into the store’s inventory and presentation, corner to crevice. So if you’re in the North End, pop into this place, just do it: whether you’re there for a shopping spree, a quick browse to escape the weather or pass time during a 2-hour wait for one of the nearby Italian restaurants, a baby shower gift (and cute card) that won’t duplicate other guests’, or simply to chance finding a just-because item for yourself or someone you know who’d be so grateful to have, say, this delicious candle scent/spirit-animal-patterned serving tray/cute hoodie on clearance/deep-v dress/penguin-shaped cocktail shaker/book about cooking vegan-ish.... You get it. It’s a lovely place, and even if you’re the only customer in this tiny shop, the staff is careful to let you browse, offer help, open jewelry cases, answer questions, hold your “maybe” items up front, etc., all WITHOUT hovering, “checking in” constantly, up-selling you every time you pick up an item, or shoveling you into a dressing room. They’re not there to hurry you through your experience; their proud of their selection, and they’ve created a vibe that allows shoppers to peruse, discover, and appreciate that selection before heading to the register.

Customer service was incredibly disappointing, not a reflection of the quintessential north end friendliness.

I was incredibly disappointed with the selection. After reading all the positive reviews and seeing Shake The Tree on all the "Boston must visit" lists, I walked a mile out of my way to visit, and had such high hopes. Instead, I felt like I had walked into an Anthropologie. A lot of the things being sold were in fact also sold at Anthropologie (Voluspa candles, the Ottolenghi cookbooks, etc). The group I was with finished browsing in about 10 minutes, and we all walked out pretty disappointed.
