Tails absolutely butchered my poor dog's grooming. I explained my dog was fairly matted, I asked about de-matting, their rate, etc. We agreed that a 1/2 inch off would be a good length, I was told I would be called if something came up and they had to go shorter. I stated my preferences and gave them two pictures from a previous grooming for reference. I was told the grooming appointment would take three hours and they would call when I could come pick her up. Three and a half hours in I texted the lady at the front desk, no response. After about another 30 minutes I got a text apologizing and that I could come get my dog. I arrive, it's a different person at the front desk and my dog is completely shaved. The groomer didn't even try to de-matte her. They shaved off her eyelashes, her paws are not even shaped, no technique at all. What I am most upset about is the lack of transparency. We agreed on a 1/2 inch off and now there isn't even a 1/4 inch left. No call, or anything. I feel like they just told me what I wanted to hear and did their own thing. You get what you pay for. We will not be returning.

I have been bringing my Boxer, Ziggy, to Tails almost 5 days a week for the past 4+ years. The kind and patient staff that work there are incredible with every dog I see them interact with. They clearly build individual relationships with with each pup and understand how to manage individual needs and behaviors. They are responsive to my questions and thorough with vaccine checks. They have even helped me care for Ziggy through tough times post-surgery and addressed behavioral challenges thoughtfully. They are so caring and focused with Ziggy, I have complete and total trust in them when I leave town. I have boarded him for extended stays (up to 2 weeks) at both the JP and Dedham locations and he always comes home cared for, clean, and happy (not to mention, exhausted). Tails truly feels like family to Ziggy. We'd be lost without them.

I am writing this review with immense frustration after the traumatic and negligent service provided by Tails. What we encountered upon returning home was nothing short of a nightmare. One of our beloved cats was discovered locked in the bathroom, in a desperate state, having been isolated and without food for what seemed like multiple days. The bathroom was in a deplorable state, covered in urine, and our poor cat was starving and distressed. The level of negligence exhibited by Tails is completely unacceptable. We had made it abundantly clear that we had two cats that needed care. Yet, they utterly failed to ensure the well-being of both, leading to this horrific situation. This gross oversight goes beyond a mere lapse in attention; it's a clear indication of their disregard for the basic needs of the animals under their care. Adding insult to injury, their communication, or lack thereof, was equally appalling. Throughout the duration of our agreement, we repeatedly requested simple confirmations of service completion for each day - a basic and reasonable request. However, Tails couldn't even provide this minimal level of communication. We weren't expecting elaborate updates, photos, or videos; just a basic acknowledgment that our cats were being looked after. Their failure to do even this left us in a state of constant worry and uncertainty, which unfortunately was justified when we discovered the condition of our cat. Their failure to communicate, coupled with their inexcusable neglect of our pet, speaks volumes about their lack of professionalism and care. This was not just an unfortunate incident; it was a clear failure on multiple levels of basic pet sitting responsibilities. I cannot stress enough how strongly I advise against using the services of Tails. No animal deserves to endure what our cat went through, and no pet owner should have to deal with such a devastating and preventable situation. Their conduct was unprofessional, uncaring, and utterly disgraceful.

My dog Tessa has been part of the Tails family for 6 wonderful years :) She is always well taken care of, even when she has special dietary needs and vet requirements. Tessa has friends at Tails in Boston and always comes home exhausted after playing with them all day. Their overnight staff are so kind and make sure she is comfortable, even though she is not used to sharing space with other animals at night time. We are really excited that Tails is expanding to Dedham - we just tried it out today and will be returning soon! Thank you to all of the staff, Tessa is a really lucky dog :)

Grooming- I've been to tails many times when Gabrielle was there. However, I brought my dog in the other day and asked if their new groomer was certified. As my dog gets really nervous and uncomfortable is stressful situations. I could immediately tell there was something fishy going on as they wouldn't let me speak to the groomer either. I have never not been able to talk to their old groomer.. The receptionist seemed flustered and confused with my questions. She tried to contact the manager but he was not around. When I asked where the old groomer had went they told me down the street.. okaaay very helpful. Means to say will not be back.

Thank you Tails for your great work this morning clipping Athena's claws! We know that our cat is not always the most cooperative client and very much appreciate the groomer's skill and dedication to getting the job done. We are always happy with the friendly and professional service we receive at Tails. So glad you're in the neighborhood!

Our first experience was concerning based on how the groomer acted - didn’t acknowledge or comfort our dog who was visibly uncomfortable and nervous, abrasive, and unwilling to answer/impatient with our questions - but we were convinced to return with a different groomer (Gaby) who has been absolutely wonderful with our pup! She’s excited to go for each groom (which is new). Gaby seems to anticipate the little things - e.g. she shut off the fans when our dog goes into the grooming room or is alone in there because they make her nervous. The grooms have come out very cute as well! They’ve also accommodated our requests for length of fur.Based on the much improved experience, we’re considering trying out the daycare as well!

Earlier this month I took my baby to Tails to get a groom for the first time in a while. We were a recurring customer and my family’s other dogs go there as well. My dog loves people, she’s very loving and yet whenever we walked into tails she starts crying and whimpering and pulls in the leash for me to take her out of there, I assumed she was just nervous and honestly being a tad bit dramatic. She was there for 3 hours which I found kind of weird but they told me it was because she was matted around the legs, fully understandable and definitely on me because I hadn’t gotten her groomed since November. She looked and smelled beautiful! Was very happy with the results. The next day however she was a different dog completely, she couldnt walk without a hunchback, she wouldn’t come when I called her name. Over the course of the day she was sleeping and I assumed she was just sore from the groom, she’s 10 years old and my friend had said that the same thing happened to her old dog so I wasn’t too worried, I gave her time to rest and eventually she was seemingly better before I had left for a vacation and had my closest dog parent roomates/friends watch her and she was very depressed, sleeping all day but still doing her daily needs (also not a concern as she is very attached to me). I came back and was hoping she would return to her normal self and she never did, still very shaky and whimpering when picked up and walking very hunched over and in pain. I immediately took her to the MSPCA angel memorial and had her looked at and had told the vet what happened, and they told me she had slipped spinal disk in her back, or an extremely swollen and inflamed back muscle (either way, something was terribly wrong with her back). The vet was pretty sure there was a correlation there (but correlation doesn’t equal causation), that the groom visit that it was consistent with rough and harsh handling and only occurred right after her visit. I was so shocked and felt terrible for putting her through that, and that Tails had abused and traumatized her to the point she needs pain meds to get through the day without whimpering. All in all, I’m extremely disappointed with Tails and regret ever going to their business. I would never take my dog back to this place and despise the fact I ever did. I called and left a message with the receptionist and she acted like it was nothing to be concerned about, as if it wasn’t a new thing. Please think about and research where you take your babies.

We have taken our dog to Tails for 5 years, both for daycare and occasional boarding. Tails is absolutely outstanding. The employees genuinely care about each of the pups. Many of the same people have worked there the entire time we’ve be taking our pup there. They know his name, his goofy habits (he only likes the the soft treats, wants no part of the pool they set up on warmer days, and is cautious around strangers). There’s no cc TV, but the instagram updates are great. This is a business owned and run by people that love dogs. Just so this doesn’t get flagged as a bot, my only slight complaint is wishing they were open later. However, I wouldn’t trade more hours with any compromise in the extremely qualified and caring people they have working there.

I scheduled a full groom for my golden doodle and asked if it was possible that she not be crated, as that is our preference, and was told it wouldn’t be an issue. The morning of the appointment, we changed the time to arrive at the groomer’s request, but when we arrived to drop off our pup, the groomer, without greeting us, immediately expressed frustration that she could not put Maple in a crate, as she still needed another 30 minutes with a different dog. Since Maple was very nervous, I asked the groomer if she could please say “hi” to Maple, and her response was, “I’ve been doing this for 5 years,” and ignored my request.I then asked to see where Maple would be waiting. She agreed reluctantly. When we entered the room, it was a total mess with many dogs in crates. There was also a small dog off leash who she grabbed by the fur (not the scruff) on his neck and the pup squealed and yelped and she did not let go. She then took Maple by her leash and was pulling her into the room while Maple was trying to pull away, clearly anxious and scared. Instead of being reassuring or encouraging to Maple, she didn’t speak to her and kept pulling. I was very alarmed by all this and left with my baby. Needless to say we will not be returning. After seeing the owner's response below, we really appreciated their honesty and transparency and returned to see if we would have a better experience with their other groomer. We had a drastically better experience, and Maple seemed very comfortable and happy there. Because of this, we changed our review from 1 star to 4 stars. Thank you very much!

IDK, man, my dog returned after his boarding smelling super bad, like piss, and the hair on his paws was all super tangled from pee. Every time I dropped him off, I'd have to give him a bath when he returned. I feel pretty bad; not sure what happens in there. I don't recommend it. No personal attack on the business, but pay attention to that. My friend says his dog returned with a cough or something, so he doesn't go there anymore. Maybe Tails need to reevaluate its standards. This is my story and feedback. Good luck.

Every time I go in, whoever is there knows my dog by name and is overjoyed to see him. I always feel confident leaving my dog here, and he always seems to have a great time. I really trust Tails!
