I used to come here in 2013-2014 when I lived in the area, but judging from the other reviews it looks like this place hasn't improved. This place is really dirty and there's a smell. Back then, my love of animals and boredom as a young 20-something would bring me back here from time to time, but i would have to brace myself before walking in. I wouldn't purchase any pets or supplies here, just looking.

The store rarely opens when it says it will and keeps its animals in awful conditions. The smell is awful and the owner has large dogs barely tied down that occasionally harrass customers.

Owner is knowledgeable and cares for his pets and customers. Rather hand pick 100 super worms so he knows they're all alive than to put them in prepackaged containers and give you whatever you get. This is where i get all of my bugs. I recommend shopping here.

After reading the reviews I was nervous of going inside - However, after speaking with the owner - he speaks with so much knowledge & care for his animals - Rather than going into am traditional pet store to buy an animal - the owner will give you an history of the animal & each step to take to care for them. His own animals he has in the shop with him are so loving - First walking into the store, being greeted by these "bears" (bear is their name in other languages & they are as big) were so friendly & playful when you take the toy & the cat which my daughter loved followed around to be petted ... very sweet - Yes, the store is wicked small, spider webs, dust everywhere, all the tanks seems a bit questionable - but if you walk in & first impression of only analyzing what you see without speaking to the owner - you will miss out on the love he has for his animals- I will definitely be purchasing some of his underwater frogs they were so excited to follow my finger & not shy away! Proves that he gives each animal attention

Very knowledgeable. Cool animal collection. Father and son certainly care that pets and humans are well matched. Haters will hate. These guys are great.

I was recently 'forced' to take care of fish. Without Pet Shop, all my fish would be totally dead. The incredibly nice owner (since the 70s!!!) was there to answer my newbie fish owner questions, and helped with general suggestions on how to scale as things become more settled.I came back a week later for more tips, and again, the owner was again gracious with his time. Though I hope I don't have to visit often to replace fish, I look forward to coming back to learn more from the wonderful owner.(Not that this place is a petting zoo but they definitely get bonus points the super friendly dogs and a cat around that make the place feel very homey.)

This is the greatest place on earth! So much love and knowledge from staff. I got a leopard gecko from there, friendly well handled. Coming from there I left feeling like I was all set to take care of him and encouraged to call back with any questions or concernsHighly recommend this place and to speak with joe for all things reptile.

This place is horrible. 25% of the fish are dead or dying and the store hasn't been cleaned in years. The cat who lives at the store is bloated and full of internal parasites from drinking directly from the scummy goldfish tanks on the bottom racks. I'd rather support a big box chain store than this place.

This establishment has no business caring for live animals, *especially* birds, which are kept in the back room in small cages with no water, food, or enrichment. There are no toys, no mirrors, no cuttlebones, and birds are kept in barebones steel cages with one perch per cage. One bird was actively plucking its feathers likely from boredom, stress, or both. There were two Newfoundland dogs and an English bulldog roaming freely around the store which was so stressful for the small rodents and birds. Completely heartbreaking.Reports can be filed with the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources by email or phone-- search up Elsie Colon, Pet Shop Program Coordinator, Division of Animal Health for contact info. Please take action. Collect photos and videos if you can to document evidence (the store has a no photography policy, so be covert about it). They have had years of history with animal abuse and neglect and something has to change.

The staff is turning around the business you can tell they are putting so much work into a cleaner store yes the front may have a little dust, it's a big store but the animals are well taken of. They are already able to bond with new owners, i never bought a sick or neglected pet from this pop and son owed store. It's one of the last pet stores of its kind! It's been on the Ave my whole life wouldn't go anywhere else.
