I have never, recently, been to White's Landing (except a few months ago to launch a canoe, nearby), but I did grow up in Brookfield, and that area has always, previously, been wide open river access. Previously, in my memory, it had nothing but a tiny shack, or nothing at all on it. Now, the land may be private, and now it is occupied, so ok, it is now private, HOWEVER, IT DOESN'T LOOK PRIVATE! It LOOKS like a country restaurant. It has a deck, and tables with umbrellas. So why are the proprietors so rude? Why do they not seem to understand what is happening? People who stop there think you have a restaurant! And people who come off the river think this is a pubic area, as it has been practically forever, and they also probably think they can get a snack there. I think you put up the private sign recently, because reviewers spoke of there not being one. You told one visitor that you are a private institution or organization, but you didn't say what you are doing there. What are you doing there? What IS your business? The thing is, if you are rude to people who quite naturally think you are operating a restaurant, we are not going to like you! And whatever you are in fact doing, you may find that you don't get much support.

I loved my time visiting White's Landing. I came in to rent a kayak which I was quickly helped with getting me on the water, and the woman helping me told me of some of wildlife I might be able to see out there. Paddling alone, I saw a turtle, a couple of cranes, and lots of dragonflies which I heard from the proprietors helps keep the area nearly free from mosquitoes. The kitchen wasn't open on the day that I was there but they didn't seem to have any issue with me resting at their tables while I waited for my ride to pick me up. I got a few gifts from the gift shop, some soaps, sage, and a ceramic vase. All of which I'm so happy to have and use to remind me of a great day on the water. One last thing that made this place super marvelous and accommodating, I accidentally dropped my wallet in their parking lot on my way out and when I called them to see if I had left it in the store, they went out to the parking lot and found it for me, so I was able to go back and pick it up, no problem.I'd recommend this place to anyone in the area! It's so important to be able to connect with nature in this way, and lovely to pick up some handcrafted gifts.

Came in off the River hoping for drinks. We had never been here before, and there were no menus anywhere. I asked the woman behind the counter what they had for cold drinks besides coffee, and was met with an eye-roll and impatience. I was told was they make lemonade. I then asked what options they had for snack type foods or if there was a menu and was ignored. Next time we’ll skip this place for sure. Maybe it’s better if you know what they have to offer ahead of time (somehow) and don’t need help ordering.Original review above posted 7/23/23.Updated review 7/24/23:Thanks for the reply to my first review! I think I need to clarify some things— You stated another in my party got drinks and a pastry, which is true. He was helped by another employee. I can’t speak to his experience, only mine, which was not good. And for the record, said pastry was given to the dog.If your “mission” isn’t to provide cold drinks and food, that is perfectly okay. Though I am curious as to why Google would consider you a “boat rental service,” why your very own website you directed to me includes kayak rentals and discussion of a COMMERCIAL kitchen if your “mission” is not a commercial business… but, that is completely besides my point of receiving poor customer service. When someone asks your employee what you offer, their response doesn’t need to include attitude and impatience. I never got an answer besides “we make lemonade.” Do you have drinks or not? Just lemonade? There was no way for me— or anyone who had never been here— to know what to expect, as there were no menus. Which again, if you aren’t a food service location that is fine, but it sure seemed like a place we could get drinks, especially since you have “bake shoppe” in your name on Google. And if not, I think your employees could be a little polite about letting customers know they need to go somewhere else. And as far as your “posted” comment goes- you have two docks posted with signage and one with none at all. If you don’t want people coming off the river, your signage needs to indicate that.Thank you.

The food and baked goods are excellent and deserve five stars. The bait shop is clean and always fully stocked. The atmosphere is relaxing and has breathtaking views. The customer service is in need of improvements. We have been in a few times this summer and have been made to feel like an inconvenience and at times we were completely ignored. It costs nothing to be polite and a simple "we will be with you in a moment" would go a long way.We live local and will continue to support this business in hopes that they thrive and make improvements.

This is a wonderful and interesting place to visit. Homemade food and tasty treats in a warm and inviting cafe, surrounded by the unique and natural beauty of the Quaboag inland coastal plain. A very fun place to explore, even in the colder months. Follow their Facebook page for updates.
