Mom and dad were born, raised, and lived in the in the Boston area their entire lives. We lost mom in March 2024 and since then dad sold the family house after 54 years and moved into the local independent living community in town where mom and dad had lived since 1971. This was May 2025. Fast forward to September 2025 and talking to dad about his flight reservations to stay with us for the winter in California. Dad informed me in late September that this would be a one way trip. Once he arrived in November that was it and he’d be living with us which was always the plan.

With dad’s news, it set a scramble to figure out how best to make this happen. I got a referral from dad’s realtor and a cousin, both recommending John Palmer without any hesitation. Based on my interaction with the John Palmer team from the first call to receiving dad’s household goods in California I can see why they were recommended to us.

My first contact was with Nick. He listened to my needs, concerns for dad given the magnitude of the decision at 87, and my expectations. Nick made an appointment with dad to go over and see the apartment. With this visit he compiled a rough inventory, provided an initial assessment of the moving logistics, and gave us a timeline for what we could expect. While dad had done a fair amount of downsizing prior to the house sale in May there were a few family furniture pieces that would require “kid gloves” care; Nick was confident and assured us that the family items would be taken care of without incident. And when the items were delivered to California they were just as they had been at dad’s apartment.

We set the date for November 14 to pack up dad’s apartment. That Friday, Naicy, Ivan, and Miguel arrived a little before the appointed time. We walked through the community logistics, showed them the items to be packed, wrapped, and shipped to California, items and being donated to HGRM, and then they got to business. Naicy, Ivan, and Miguel worked non-stop from the time they arrived to their departure after the last piece was loaded into the back of the moving van. All in all, I think they were onsite for four hours which was much less time than expected. Naicy, Ivan, and Miguel were efficient, polite, professional, and treated all dad’s items being packed as if they were their own.

Dad’s items arrived California in early December and were delivered to the house shortly thereafter, consistent with what we had discussed. While dad’s move timeline was accelerated from what had initially been discussed, I could not have asked for an easier process, pack out, and shipping. More than that, I could not have done this without the help of the entire John Palmer team. Whether within the Boston area or across country, John Palmer Moving & Storage should be on the top of your first call if you have a planned move. Moving isn’t fun but John Palmer will definitely make your next move as easy and stress free as possible. You won’t be disappointed.”

“Moving in general and cross country moves especially are always extraordinarily stressful. I would, however, recommend McLaughlin Transportation for a cross country move. Yes, the packing crew badly mishandled paperwork on loading day but they actually did a really good job packing fragile items—not a single piece of glass (cup, plate, mug, etc) was broken over the course of a ~2,000 mile move. It’s taken me many cross country moves to understand that your home is packed and moved to a warehouse by one crew, stored and shipped by another, and then unloaded by a third, etc.. Though my delivery was delayed 7 days and the paperwork issue at loading really upset and stressed me out, the moving coordinator, Lori, is was surprisingly responsive. When I emailed in about my concerns, I thought she’d never reply or pickup the phone (I’ve had experiences like this before with other moving companies). This was not the case with McLaughlin Transportation. Lori always called me back, answered her phone, and emailed me back—always. She never dodged a hard question from me and fielded all of concerns about the paperwork issues with a lot of professionalism. I was expecting to be blown off (again, horrid experiences with another cross-country moving company) but I never was once by anyone at McLaughlin. Lori’s helpfulness is at least 80% of why I had an overall positive experience. Eric, too, was great. He came by my home twice to drop boxes off for me to use while I packed my own goods. He even dropped off special boxes like wardrobe boxes when I requested them. That easily saved me a few hundred dollars. Look, it’s always gonna be stressful and expensive but McLaughlin was the best paid cross country moving service I’ve ever used. Would recommend.”

“I can not say enough about the customer service and help I received from this moving company! whatever I asked them to do they did! I need to be moved out of my condo and half was going to storage, some was going to the dump and the rest was going to my new place and nothing was ever a problem. they asked me which items were going were and they packed their truck accordingly and efficiently! Every item that was brought into the house, they asked me where it was going! They were polite and clean and extremely helpful! if anyone wants a top rated, efficient company please consider these guys!
