Like so many others, I have had horrible experience with Schwab. You can’t get the most basic customer service for simple retirement services (rollover to an IRA).

I went to Charles Schwab in Chestnut Hill Square, not the one at 1262 Boylston Street. There were two young women behind the counter. I talked to one of them. She was cold as ice and unwilling to answer questions. She looked at her computer and never at me when I spoke to her. It took her a while to get me an application form. I said I need to have some information. She asked brusquely: "What?" I asked her about opening a money market account and about the current interest rate. I asked her the difference between the two kinds of money market account they offered. Her answers were "I don't know. It depends." I have never met a staff of a financial institution treating customer in that manner. I did not get any answers I needed before opening an account. So I left.

I transferred my brokerage accounts to Schwab from UBS over 10 years ago and have no regrets. Schwab has many robust tools available for self directed investors to make informed investment decisions based on time horizon and risk tolerance. If I do have an occasional question, I find my rep. to be very helpful. If he's unavailable, I call the 800 number and they're equally as helpful. For those who need investment advice and frequent hand holding, there are other options available, but you'll have to pay a commission or a fee that's charged as a percentage of your assets. Schwab can even introduce you to such a firm as they would then get a cut of the fees. For those who are inclined to do it themselves, Schwab's fees and services are extremely competitive. In fact, they no longer charge a commission on most stock trades, offer many no load mutual funds with low expense ratios and offer a huge selection of ETF's with very low expense ratios. I even have a checking account there and get reimbursed by Schwab monthly for all ATM fees that I incur.

Had the worst experience ever with Schwab. I am a client of several US banks and institutions, never had such a horrible experience. My wife changed jobs and she had a 401K balance that she was interested to roll over to her IRA at a different bank. They gave her a very hard time and tried everything to block that. Eventually they took her money off the market and put them into a savings account and they took her address and IRA account details, promising that she will receive a check that she will have to deposit into her IRA (standard rollover process)After several weeks of waiting, we sent online to login into her Schwab account just to find that nothing has happened. Should we had received the check, the money would have went back in the market. This whole issue made her lose a few thousand dollars as we lose the opportunity to put the money back in the market. I hope they review the call records (all calls get recorded these days) and reach out to us with a resolution.I would suggest to say away from using them. They are nice with you until you tell them you want to move your money, after that they just drop the ball on you. As I write this, I am waiting for a representative to call me with an explanation. If its an act of negligence on their side, I hope they recognize it and I hope they cover all the loses and damages I incurred because of their being irresponsible.As as said, I am dealing with several other financial institutions, and they all treated me extremely well, whether I had a few hundred bucks into their account or a larger sum. That's how it should be.

I went to the Chestnut Hill Office in early January to remove the "secret password" that I did not know existed until Dec 2017. I brought 3 IDs, signed a form, spoke with someone at corporate. As of 1/28 my account still has the "secret password" I never knew most likely. I'm unsure who made a mess of this simple task. :-(

A bunch of useless frauds: after I set up an ACH on Checking account, I went to this brunch to add more cash. The frontdesk lady suggested me to go the BoA next door for a Bank's check, so by the end of day, my checking account will have enough for clearing. They saw my records, but purposely gave me the wrong advice: 1) the Bank's check went into the Brokerage account, but they could not handle the checking side; 2) they did not tell me the Over-Draft as an option; 3) they could have suggested me to transfer my cash from Brokerage to Checking account. They are greedy (over-draft fees), for their work log, but not helping you to solve your problems!

I have been very happy with the service I have received at this Schwab in Chestnut Hill. David Carolan has gone above and beyond in helping me to understand my finances, build my portfolio and prepare for retirement. I had an outside expert financial advisor look at my Schwab statements over several years and she was impressed with their performance and their statements. They never make me feel rushed and I'm in good financial shape through many years. I was hit far less than friends of mine after the 2008 crash. My funds have been built back and increased. I am a long time happy customer!

I tried to get my mother's account transferred to Schwab so she would not continue to pay ridiculously high fees at UBS. The account guy I drew has been absolutely useless. He disregarded simple instructions to hold the transfer paperwork so we could liquidate the positions at UBS before transferring them, and despite numerous calls and emails would not get back to me. I was trying to do this remotely from Nevada, where I've been a very happy client at Schwab for ten years. This was the worst professional experience I've ever had. I know its not a full service broker, but at least you could expect the account team there to take 30 minutes and set up the account properly so you can manage it yourself. Its been 6 weeks and the transfer is still not done. I felt foolish because despite UBS high fees they do jump when called, and nothing is ever left in limbo.

So back when BofA decided to start charging people a monthly fee for their checking accounts, I shook my tiny fist and left. I shopped around and ended up going with Charles Schwab, and set up all of my banking stuff here. I've been with them for about . . . three years now? And it's been ridiculous bliss. Andrew Kling who works at this branch is seriously great. He's very personable, gets right to the point taking care of business, and has never treated me like a broke grad student (which I am). The two other things I really like is that I always get a real person in what feels like 30 seconds whenever I call their customer service, and all of my ATM fees are reimbursed to me. Yep, all of them. Everywhere. Bliss. (Thanks Andrew, you rule!)
