Stayed here 3 times; twice in two different cottages and once in the more traditional hotel-style addition built probably over 35 years ago. There's something magical about this area which defies my ability to describe it. The closest thing I can think of is how this is something like a sleep away camp for adults. The accommodations were spartan, rustic, simple, old, dusty and musty, but the location is magic. My blood pressure must have dropped 20+ points during my visits here.Unlike Edgartown or some of the other towns on the island, this area is serene. Probably not for everyone, but perfect for us.

Staying at Menemsha Inn is like if your favorite Aunt Eloise had a cottage on the water on MVY. Cozy and perfect. The views are worth the price of admission. The old porches remind you of your best childhood summers. Screen doors, outdoor showers that smell like the ocean and the piney path alongside, clams on the BBQ grill, and salt in your hair. The sounds and smell of the sea surrounds you wherever you go. The wild turkeys feel like old summer friends. Lucy Vincent is your own secret beach. And Menemsha is the little fishing village made famous in the movie Jaws. The commercial fishing boats and pleasure craft tie up side by side in a charming tableau that gets photographed all summer long. This is where everyone goes for fresh fish and sunsets and you can have both right at the Inn. Meander down to the docks and bring home a lobster or two, maybe a sack of clams. Get some corn and tomatoes from a farmstand by the side of the road and you will feast. Menemsha Inn.... summer like it oughta be ...

For $550 a night, I would have expected a lot more from the cottage. Half the cover plate on the main light switch was broken off, exposing bare electric wires -- not ideal, especially since we were staying there with our toddler. The cottages are adjacent to the swamp / estuary that is between the main property and the beach (the beach is about a 20-25 minute walk through wooded areas and over a wooden boardwalk on the estuary). The mosquito and fly problem is probably the worst I've seen anywhere on the island. I rarely use bug spray (I don't mind a few bites), but we had to go and buy some. There's just no other way to be outside. The cottages have a certain Spartan quality that I like, but they are really overpriced, even by MV standards. We tried to communicate with a manager about a couple issues, but no response. I think the Menemsha area is beautiful, but if you can find alternative accommodations, I'd go for those instead.

Rustic beauty,As we arrived at a parking lot, from densely aged forest spotted a Redstart warbler. What a nice welcome! The lady inn keeper was friendly and kind.Another definition of luxury we found to be true in this place. Quaint Seaside cottages surrounded by nature Simple life of New England charm, rustic porch lamp, cedar siding, An old bottle and some wildflowers will complete my dinner table, that sort of place. we enjoyed very much. The Cottage was well equipped, and clean, especially the kitchen. We were content overallFromFrequent Island Traveler

Horrible customer service, sub par accommodations, poor value!I have never written a review before, but based on our experience, I felt I must.We were shocked at how terrible our stay was at the Menemsha Inn. We stayed for 4 nights in early October 2021. The restaurant was not open, no edible snacks available, the accommodations in the 2 bedroom suite were poor (our bed frame broke, the suite needed major updating to warrant the price they charged us, etc) They had told us when we made the reservation that they were booked and that the cottage we had booked formerly had gone up $200 during Covid times and was unavailable. That was not true. There was no one there, the whole place was like a ghost town. The premises overall are in terrible shape: everything chipping and rotting from no maintenance, gutters overflowing. There is nothing high-end or luxurious about this place. Only the location is good. The woman who was at the front desk was rude, almost insulting. After leaving, we very politely wrote them and asked if we could speak to the owner, just to share our experience. We wrote them and called 5 times and they said they would put us in touch. Nothing. So I warned them I would post a poor review and here it is! Do not spend your money on this place. It will spoil your stay on this beautiful island.

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed across the world over. Peaceful and serene overlooking a pastoral landscape complete with sunsets over the ocean, baby cows, turkeys, and horses. There was a half mile path through the woods to the beach and the owners had the cabin unlocked and waiting on our arrival. I will stay here every chance I get when visiting the island.

Amazing! So relaxed and perfectly accommodating to everything. Close enough to explore the island and comfortable enough to spend the day with a good book and great friends on the patio.

Wife and I have been coming here for 10 years almost and never had a bad time. We prefer staying up-island typically and Menemsha Inn & Cottages is one of our favorite places to stay. Whether we've got an entire cottage/house or just got a room, the experience has always been great. The staff is friendly, rooms are clean and comfortable, the grounds are gorgeous and you have walking paths to both the beach and 'downtown' Menemsha. Also love the fact that you get passes to Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket Beaches (which are less crowded, ocean facing and prettier compared to Menemsha Beach), they have a small fitness center with basic equipment, offer yoga classes, offer complimentary beach towels, chairs and umbrellas and they just recently opened a 'canteen' where you can buy snacks, drinks and other things vs. having to walk into Menemsha. A few things to note and be mindful of: -You really do need a car up this way. The inn is a good 30 minute drive to the ferries; so unless you plan to have a lot of beach days and hang around the property and Menemsha, having a car is your best bet. -It's not cheap but you get what you pay for. If you're on a budget or looking for a bargain basement rate, you're at the wrong place. -This place definitely has a 'Vineyard vibe'. The grounds and rooms are clean, but everything isn't super manicured and feels like your at a big box hotel. Some might want or expect that, given this place is more expensive than other options. My wife and I have always liked the charm of this place. -The only recent bummer is the nearby restaurant Beach Plum is closed for dining. Apparently, they still offer ala carte breakfast to patrons of the Inn, but are no longer open for dinner, either to the general public or Inn patrons. Bummer as this was one of my favorite up-island residents. Recently stayed here for a few days and had a great time. Can't wait to pop back in here next summer.

I didn't stay there, but rather in a place across the street. I had lost mail and went to enquire if perhaps they had received it instead. The receptionist was unnecessarily rude telling she just didn't have time to check because she get thousands of packages a week (what?) and this wasn't NYC (I'm not anywhere from there) and to shop local (this was a speciality book I had to order from Australia for my young daughter). After several exasperated minutes of insulting chatter from the receptionist, I just left, not knowing whether they had my item. What a bummer for these nice cottages to have such unpleasant front staff. I never leave a review, but though I'd mention to spare you future frustrations.

Spent 2 nights at Menasha Cottages for a wedding. Had a wonderful time exploring the grounds, beach and local seafood fare. Spending quality time with loved ones celebrating at Menemsha....priceless. A&R

Nice place, but we kept finding various bugs in our room. Moths and ants and some bug I didn't recognize. Also, our ceiling vent kept leaking, and the hot water took ages to come on in the shower. Views were lovely, though.

If you ever need an escape from city life, stay here. I have lived and grown up in big cities my whole life and it wasn’t until I came to Menemsha that I understood the beauty of simple living. I learned a new word while on this trip “bucolic”. In one word it describes my entire experience. From seeing wild turkeys roaming the property, awakening to cows and the sound of over 15 different types of birds in the morning I was surrounded by nature. My highlights included: the beautiful stroll to the beach, gathering fresh farm eggs, an adventure with two escaped cows (my first cow herding experience), the amazing WiFi (where I was able to work remotely), the oyster shells on the driveways, amazing sunset BBQs, baking croissants in the morning, visiting local farms for the best fresh produce, meats and cheeses, walking to the fishing village to buy the freshest seafood right off the boats, having a fully equipped kitchen, and that amazing wood burning fireplace. The staff is amazing. Jonias taught us how to build a great fire and helped us set up our bbq. Bob (owner) personally helped us with setting up our WiFi to ensure everything ran smoothly! Sarah our angel who was our guide and wonderful host. Thank you for your generosity and for showing some hardened city folks the beauty of country life.We hope to return soon and bring our families. Thank you again!

We spent 2 weeks at Menemsha's Cottage at Ruth's House. We absolutely loved everything: the peaceful nature, being located in this beautiful farm cottage by the sea surrounded by friendly cows, chickens (free fresh eggs every morning :-)), ducks, goose, etc. There is a little trail through the forest and dunes that leads straight to Menemsha's village and beach in less than 10mins. There you will find the famous fishmarket for fresh lobsters, oysters and fishes. Menemsha's beach has the most beautiful sunset on the whole island and we could witness it from our cottage everyday. We loved how well equipped was the cottage with a full kitchen, 2 BBQ's (one gas and one charcoal/wood), a fireplace and tons of woods, perfect for Smores at night. This is a perfect place for foodies like us. There is a least 5 amazing beaches at less than 10mins drive from the cottage. They are all different, some includes a little hike from the forest. Other have direct parking next to the beach. We loved them all and made sure to switch beach everyday for a different experience. The cottage itself was super luxury and spacious. The beds are super comfy so we had great nights sleep especially in this peaceful nature. We loved Menemsha cottages and we cannot wait to come back. We travelled the world and this is a truly special place. We want to thank Sarah Nixon the owner for her exceptional hospitality. She was wonderful and gave us great tips every of fun things to do, we followed them and we had the time of our life.
