My daughter currently goes here. Walking back to dorms at 8pm at night in a dangerous areas because the staffing is so short that they can't even manage their own students. The food is awful from what I've heard and seen. Food poisoning is nothing out of the blue here. Most students buy their own food and water because the facilities own resources are poor. Sexism runs rampant. Female dorm is run more strictly than the male dorm is. Favoritism is nothing new either. Residential advisors will favor certain students and give them favors and things they typically cannot have on center.Overall. Do not send your kid here. Tell them to steer CLEAR.

What an amazing opportunity for young adults to learn a trade, become certified, get their HS diploma, learners permit, license and earn money while doing it! Not to mention the passion the staff has to help them reach these goals. Each center location is different but the opportunities are alike.

I am here visiting my grandson. I'm going to see if I can physically see how he's living. Most of the reviews focus on poor staffing. Not sure why this hasn't been addressed.

I graduated from there back in 2011, it was a great place to finish my early education. The instructors were great, housing was free, we were fed 3 times a day. I would highly recommend Shriver to anyone who wants to finish their education.

Honestly, if you have no problem with keeping your head down, focusing on your future and are fine with strict rules, this may be the place for you. It is a great opportunity to get your diploma, driver's license, and to complete a trade. On the other hand of things the majority of staff is pretty disrespectful and not all of them care whether or not you succeed. If you have no problem tolerating constant disrespect then going here is a great way to find success. You even get free food (not to say the food is great) and free housing.

This has got to be the most unprofessionally run center/program I have ever been/seen. The staff members can't communicate with each other nor the students. The buildings are old and they won't fix the roof until they'll probably collapse. Certain "instructors" won't actually teach or give you the "hands on experience" they promise. The students who are adults like myself are treated like they never been in the real world and get treated like kids, and I understand some students here need help but don't round those students with the rest. The chefs here are mostly gone so many of us are kept hungry waiting for the next meal. If I could give this place 0 stars I would, but if you have no other option in life then this is the place for you. All I recommend for you is to get your trade and certifications completed and get back to the real world as quick as possible. If I get in trouble for using my freedom of speech for posting this then this shows how impotent this center is at teaching real world experience. P.S. to anyone looking for a job at this center, goodluck. Majority of staff members here have left. The company who runs this place has a focus of bringing in as many students as possible but can't keep chefs or instructors/teachers to aid those students. Makes you think what their actual agenda is, possibly scamming the gov't for money with the contract they have and cutting down on the budget because they get certain amount of money for each student they bring in which they can't keep cuz students leave too. Go figure...

I'm going to give the most honest review yet. If you are a hardworking individual with goals to save money for the future housing and start a career in a field of your choice while being able to eat for free and sleep on a bed for free then shriver job corps is the place for you. Please be warned that most of their rules suck including the one where they make you quit your job if you receive a write up or negative they call it.

This is the worst place you could ever want to attend. The staff are rude and don't even respect us, the management has ran this place in to the ground, it used to be a nice place but alternative perspectives inc ruined it. Don't come here if you care about yourself at all.

I have been at SJCC for over 6 months now. I was sent on med leave to acquire antidepressants from a hospitalisation, and was refused to be accepted back. Instead, they sent me over to my old hometown, where I have been homeless to this day, struggling for food, and warmth. While I was attending classes, the staff were unacceptably rude, and unreasonable when it came down to what they wanted to happen(extending the rules, lying, etc.). The food was decent, except ot took its toll on my bowels, although the limited number of cooks making over ~300 servings makes it easy to look over. All in all, time spent there was okay, but when it came to personal problems, they sent me on the streets, and are going to see it from the Department of Labor.
