I have had the absolute pleasure of visiting this hospital regularly for just over a year now. My sweet boy, Hank, was born with a congenital issue that has caused him to need very specific daily treatments and a very invasive surgery to help manage the condition and prolong the quantity and quality of his life. I take Hank’s care VERY seriously, I’m a bit overprotective when it comes to his care. Which is why I am so thrilled that we are able to have the brilliant minds at Tufts FHSA to oversee his care. Dr. Rush and Dr. Freeman have taken such amazing care of my boy and I could not ask for a better team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and front desk staff to care for my baby.I am a huge worrier, so I’m quick to reach out to the team via email whenever issues arise with Hank’s health. Alyssa and Kelsey from the cardiology team in particular are absolute rockstars and always respond very quickly even during their very hectic days!Hank would not be where he is today without these extraordinary brilliant humans. We all know that our pets are family and I feel extremely confident in trusting my family with the team at Tufts FHSA.

It's real funny how yall can't even answer easy questions regarding my pet. I'm a concerned pet owner and you were so quick to turn me away. Yall shouldn't call yourselves animal lovers. Your a terrible bunch.

If you have a bird and you're thinking of bringing him here for treatment, I BEG you to reconsider. First off, we were told they would call the Avian vet in to see my bird. They did not, instead a zcam video call was done with the Avian vet who instructed the other vets on what to do with the bird. I don't understand how something like that is even medically sound in the first place. They sent my bird home with an e-collar that was too big and heavy for my cockatiel. He could not move around, eat or drink by himself. My bird was found dead this morning and I have no other reason to believe it wasn't this horrendously big collar they gave my cockatiel. I lost my best friend because of complete incompetence. Please, if you love your companion bird, do NOT bring him here. Corners should not be cut when it comes to taking care of any animal but especially exotics.

The ER doctors here have been amazing. They got more members of their team involved to figure out what was ailing my dog and found something incredibly hard to find on ultrasound, which effectively saved his life! This was missed during an ultrasound by another ER facility just 2 days prior. If the team hadn't been so thorough, I can't begin imagine how long we would have been searching for the cause of his symptoms. Very pleased with the care all around.

If your pet is sick and you need emergency care, PLEASE GO SOMEPLACE ELSE!! There are other places, maybe just a little drive away. I wish we knew better. This facility deserves a ZERO.We had to bring our cat in as he started breathing fast and our vet was closed. I called, and they said to bring him right in.We drove there so fast, not knowing what to expect. When we arrived, someone came out and took him right in and asked us some questions regarding what was going on. We sat waiting and waiting patiently, so frightened while listening to the people at the desk laugh hysterically for 1 1/2 hours while watching people come in and out in tears as their babies were suffering like ours was (know your audience people) HEARTLESS!!!!Although I was annoyed at that and should have known not to leave him there, I blew it off. After the long wait, a gentleman who I believe was a student (most of them are) came out and started asking us questions about our boy, the same exact ones that were asked on arrival. Then the question, “So what’s your budget?” We said, “We will do what we need for our boy, but what do you mean?” He says,"It could be hundreds or it could be thousands.” COLD!!!! When I asked about what was going on, he responded, “I don’t know; we haven’t gotten a chance to look at him; he’s on oxygen right now.” ummm what? We sat all that time, and the poor boy was just alone, sitting there with nobody looking at him. We waited another while and were brought back and met by the doctor, who again asked me THE SAMEE QUESTIONS! The Doctor then says our boy has congestive heart failure and they want to keep him for testing. This alone was heartbreaking, as he has never been away from us in 10 years, and he’s very skitish with strangers anyway (shy and nervous, not at all mean, and I told them that). I just felt horrible, but we left, assuring ourselves they would help him.I could go on with every single detail of our experience, but I will tell you just one thing. We went and visited him after he had been there for a day and a half. When they brought him in to us, he was a different cat. DAY AND NIGHT!! He was covered in his feces all over his tail, on his feet, and on his stomach. He smelled like urine, and whatever else was all over him. He had some sticky substance from head to toe that was matted in his fur. They had to shave him for an ultrasound, and he was nicked. His eyes were glazed over, like he had been so drugged he could barely lift his head and look at us. When I picked him up and he put his head on my shoulder and started purring, his eyes were in another world, it broke my heart like nothing ever before. He was overmedicated. This cat is not a vicious cat at all; he's just shy. When I asked the doctor what was all over him, she said, “It’s because he was drooling from being nauseous from the anxiety medications. NO WAY!! This was not drool. This was all over him from head to toe. We still don’t know what it is. We are still picking it out of his fur. We spent two hours there holding him, comforting him, washing him down, and even asking for a brush to get this stuff off of him (we have given him several sponge baths since he got home, and we still cannot get the stench of it off of him or the clumps off). When I put him on the floor while visiting, he just dragged his back leg as he walked and hid under the bench. Again, when I asked about this, she didn’t know. They drugged him so badly, and we believe he was just a guinea pig for them and their students. She told us they had to keep him again to try to flush the fluid out of his kidneys. We wish we had taken him that night. We cried all the way home, and we sat up all night, crying, and we almost went there at 1 AM to get him. They made us feel like if we didn’t leave him, he wouldn’t make it for even a few days. The next day, we said, “We are taking him.” I will never get off my soapbox about this place, and I will forever not forgive myself for leaving him. For $4800.00, you could have cleaned the poop off of him you made him sit in. Shameful!

Tufts saved my dog’s life. My local ER was closed and my next closest option was Tufts. My boy has seizures and they took him back to triage immediately upon our arrival. Dr. Wilson and their team are a true gift, staying until 3:00 am to perform life-saving GVD (bloat) surgery. The entire staff - front desk, vet techs, students and vets - were extremely compassionate and literally wiped away my tears. The genuine love they had for my dog was palpable and I’ll forever be grateful for the high level of care he received.

Although we didn’t get the results we were hoping for, my husband, myself and our dog were treated with kindness, respect and compassion. Everyone we worked with showed true kindness during a difficult time. From the two people I talked to on the phone to schedule appointments, to the front desk and the veterinarian & assistant(?) helping all treated us so well. Thank you from the bottom of my heart-being treated well along with all your knowledge meant the world to us.

Maybe only long-time parrot owners can relate to this, but Malachi, our 38-year-old Moluccan Cockatoo, is one of my best friends. When he stopped eating one afternoon and didn't eat the next morning (unheard of for him) we rushed him to Foster Hospital emergency services. They hospitalized him and when we returned for him we met Dr. Olguin, Foster's avian and exotic specialist. After many visits, her great attention and care to our precious little guy has filled us with love and joy. He's doing very well now, thanks to Dr. Olguin's expert care, but there are more factors than expertise at work at this wonderful place. I don't know how else to say it--there is love and compassion forour animals and for us. We are remembered, and treated with empathy, care and respect, always, by everone from reception to medical staff. I'm very grateful to be part of this family of brilliant, loving care-givers.Thanks always!Angela (Jay) ThomasGary Thomasand Malachi Thomas

I’ve honestly never really had a good experience here. If you own small pets then you probably understand how difficult it is to find a good exotic vet especially during emergencies. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend bringing them here unless you absolutely HAVE to. In my experience, other animal hospitals have been seemingly more educated, better at explaining information and a lot more understanding during desperate times in general than here at a better cost.

My chinchilla was treated here for his broken arm which we later found out needed to be amputated. They were able to operate the next day and made him as comfortable as possible before hand. Thank you so much to the exotic pets team for saving his life.☺️❤️

I had an emergency with my dog overnight on Saturday. I took her into Tufts Foster Hospital for Small Animals at around 8 am on Sunday morning. When I entered, the woman at the emergency desk asked if I had called and when I said that I hadn't, she told me that they were extremely understaffed and might refer me elsewhere if my dog was stable. I said that was fine. My dog was taken back to be triaged. I assumed that if they determined that she was stable, they would bring her back out right away and refer me elsewhere. After about an hour and a half, a doctor came out to discuss my dog. I assumed that since it had been so long, they had decided to treat her. The doctor told me that because my dog wasn't critical, she was going to refer me to another hospital. I couldn't believe that she had my dog in the back in a kennel for an hour and a half before triaging her and then deciding not to treat her. I found another emergency hospital that would treat my dog, and had to wait another 15 minutes to get her back so I could leave. The entire experience was appalling. If they were going to refer me somewhere else, they should have done so immediately upon determining my dog was stable. They should not have kept her in a kennel for a hour and a half without actually triaging her. That was wasted time during which my dog was suffering and in pain. I have always relied on Tufts for quality emergency care but will never use them again if I can help it. If I could give Tufts a zero star rating I would.

I have two pugs and have gone to this location for a few criticalIssues. What to expect: they are a ER first and foremost. If your case isn’t cortical, expect to wait. Other cases take priority.Positive: everything you would need for your animal without having to goElsewhere for testing, X-rays, ultrasound , you name it , they have it.Our situation was handled after the fact with grace and professionalism.Young Vet intern was overworked, tired and coming undone. Couldn’t perform basic blood draw after 4 hours of waiting and sent us home without meds and half explained incorrect discharge documents. That evening, I wrote an email explaining our experience and was contacted the next day by email response and a phone call of the director of interns.Glad I was heard and we all learned from this experience.Expect to pay at an emergency vet and expect to pay for their care. I strongly suggest vet insurance. If your experience is substandard, it’s helpful to reach out constructively. We finished our treatment at Blue Pearl in Waltham who completed our dogs care with the upmost professionalism and help.

I only can say they are real humans, which did their best for my friend, and didn’t consider the check at the end as the only matter. I highly recommend this place, specially if you have financial restrictions because the clinica around will overcharge you. This clinic may be not cheap for you, but surely they will be fair, such fairness that you def won’t find in any other emergency clinic around in a 50miles radius.

This hospital saved my rescue's life after many other vets and other ER hospitals were unable to handle his situation including in PR as well as the US. 57 heartworms were successfully removed from his heart. The level of expertise at this hosptial is top notch! Throttle thanks you and is living his best life!
