I recently had an extremely frustrating and costly experience at the South Main Street Post Office in Haverhill, MA, due to the incompetence and unprofessionalism of the postmaster, Carolyn. As a small business owner, I rely on USPS for shipping, but after this experience, I will no longer be doing business at this location.
Carolyn insists on "going by the book" but conveniently cannot provide proof to back up her claims. I was shipping used laptops with lithium batteries, fully compliant with USPS regulations, and I even showed her the official USPS policy confirming this. Despite being presented with clear proof, she falsely claimed I could not ship them and that my packages would be “flagged from DC.” When confronted with factual information, instead of resolving the issue professionally, she simply refused to assist me any further.
As a result of her refusal to do her job correctly, I had to repurchase shipping labels—doubling my costs from $60 to $120 for four packages. This is unacceptable. Her inability to properly understand USPS regulations, coupled with her dismissive and unhelpful attitude, makes it clear that she is untrained and unfit for her position. Carolyn is not only unprofessional but grossly overemployed in a role she cannot fulfill competently.
This level of service is disgraceful, and I will be escalating this issue to higher authorities. If you are a small business or rely on USPS for your shipping needs, I strongly urge you to avoid this location. Carolyn's incompetence will cost you time, money, and unnecessary frustration.
USPS should take a serious look at how this location is being managed because this kind of behavior is damaging to both customers and the organization's reputation.

Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Never a long wait and always stocked with supply. The recent remodel of the lobby and new sign make it a much more visible and inviting post office.

Delivery Attempted - No Access to Delivery Location
I watched the truck drive by this isnt the first time they have done this lazy postman i am set back 25 feet from the street and no obstruction at all no fence nothing to get in the way
