Pretty high priced place. Decent wines but the service was a little snoody.

An apple farm, with a bakery, a winery, tractor rides, animals, and so much more, when you visit North of Boston Russell Orchards in Ipswich is a must visit.
Known for their Bakery and fresh made pies,
as well as their fresh made apple cider donuts. .
this 120 ache family farm with scenic views
and friendly animals, has been operating since 1920.
and their very popular fruit wines draw crowds year round.

Such a cool experience! So much to try from a well stocked shop. Apple picking is available but way more than we needed for a few days in town. We enjoyed a few good items and a hot non alcoholic cider.
Lots of other produce from specialty wines, honey, baked goods, whole pies, ice cream, cooking books and much more. ?????

It's a sort of typical overpriced "value-add" farm like you find all over new England this time of year-- super crowded, couple of marginal photo opps, okay cider donuts, expensive wines/ciders. The chickens are *super* overcrowded and pecking each others feathers out. That was really not cool.
Imo- Pick your own should be *cheaper* than buying in the farm stand, as you're the labor. It used to be that PYO was how we Poors could get access to farm fresh stuff only the folks in the big houses could afford.
It's cute if you have kids, maybe. I probably will skip it in future.

We always stop at Russell Orchards on the way to crane beach. We love their baked goods and freshly harvested fruit. Their grapes were incredible - I’ve never tasted such flavorful grapes in my life. Highly recommend a stop here - bring an extra cooler if you’re heading to the beach for the day to stock up on things from their shop!
We also love looking at the animals. Typically, we’ll see ducks, donkeys, a horse or two, goats and pigs.

We used to love Russel Orchards. Not anymore. You come for apple picking and the only option they give you is to get a 10lb (yes, a TEN POUND) bag of apples, costing $25. Nothing smaller than that. We reluctantly went for it, just for the old times sake, ended up with a ridiculous amount of apples that we won’t be able to consume.
For apple picking, go elsewhere. I know we will.
