Why Carr Hardware Lenox Has Lost My Trust and Business.I bought 2 sodastream refills at the Lenox store. The total came out to $47.98 or $23.99 each including tax. The same refill online through sodastream is $16.99 with free shipping for purchases of $65 or more ($18.05 a bottle including tax). Meanwhile, at this very moment in the heart of SF, you can purchase the same refill at my former hardware store Cliff’s Variety for $18.46 including tax. Why was I being charged nearly 6 dollars more per refill by Carr Hardware? I was shocked when I looked at my receipt when I got home. What gives?I called the store and questioned the manager, Patty and explained the price discrepancies I had been finding. She was dismissive at first citing “price increases” as her justification. I told her I would complain about my experience online and then she said “corporate sets the prices and she would check and get back to me.” I have yet to receive a return call. It’s upsetting that post-covid so many businesses, local independents and large corporations alike, are willing to gouge their customers and their community. After some online research, my experience with Carr Hardware’s refill pricing is comparable to complaints I had read about online by Walmart customers. I will be reporting my experience to the Better Business Bureau and caution you to be vigilant at the checkout counter if you shop at Carr Hardware. They’ve lost my trust and my business.UPDATE 12/28: SodaStream confirmed retailers should be charging $16.99 plus tax for the refill/exchange. They have escalated my complaint and will be contacting Carr Hardware directly. Patty, manager of Carr Lenox has apologized and has refunded the overcharge amount. She will be working with Carr Hardware corporate to change the refill pricing.Note: Staples Pittsfield is charging roughly $18 for refills and may be your best bet for honest pricing for this particular product in the area.

This hardware store is clean and well organized, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. The business is a great addition to the stores owned and operated by Bart Raser, a local entrepreneur and respected home improvement specialist.
