The arch ways represent the East trade with Salem. The fountain is a map of old an new Salem.

From my understanding, this mall has changed ownership and has since been rebranded as the Witch City Mall. The first day I went into this mall it was because I parked at the attached parking garage and it was the first thing we encountered. There seemed to be a decent amount of shops inside; a comic book shop, which was pretty good, a few occult shops, a photography studio, and some restaurants and bakeries. As I said above, the comic shop was great and there was also a book stall I encountered that was awesome. I picked up some pulp paperback novels for 40% off the given price and I walked away quite happy! The second day, I came back and was going to browse again, only this time I was confronted with a festering pile of mulchy, smelly garbage that was just sitting in a huge pile near the entrance and was beginning to liquefy. There was no one attending to it, no one to clean it up, and the entire inside of the mall in that section reeked to the high heavens of vomit-worthy garbage juice. There seems to be little to no management or ownership presence. Upon further inspection I noticed there were other areas of the mall in disarray and it was quite disappointing. Clearly the owner of the building doesn't care very much about it. If they did, they would appreciate all of the history and community around them - and the aesthetic of such - and would do their best to keep their building clean, maintained, and free of disgusting liquid garbage piles. It's a shame. The shops I went to were lovely, but the building itself is a thumbs down.

Salem is a city with an interesting blend of the old and new. The main draw for tourists is the connection to the witch trials but Salem also has a history of being a bustling maritime seaport. While no longer a major center of commerce, you can still see traces of old money from the stately Federal style mansions of shipping barons and buildings that were formerly banks, scattered about the downtown district. I like strolling about and checking out the stores and museums. It's a very foot friendly city but there is a trolley that will take you to locations on the outskirts of the city center, such as the House of the Seven Gables, immortalized in Nathaniel Hawthorne's book.

Other than a few restaurants, there isn't much that sticks out here. A few gift shops, an occult shop, a niche photo studio where people take pictures in period clothing either for the wild west or as witches as a few examples. But Cinema Salem is also located here. It's more the natives, people who hang out in the square that can be irksome. Tough guys, irritating punks can be found here hanging out with nothing better to do then talk smack or yell obscenities at people. Don't get me wrong, there are regulars that hang out here that are otherwise fine and are actually pretty chill. Just if you run into one of these jackasses, don't engage them. If they harass you just call the police to handle them.

We stopped in here for a sandwich to take on the plane back to Denver. We had a veggie sandwich and it was very good. Loved the bread, it was soft and very fresh. The pizza slices we saw were big and they looked mighty tasty. The lady who took our order was very pleasant. If I lived here I would definitely go back.

Not a bad little strip mall. My favorite part is Essex's New York Deli and Pizza. The roast beef here is so good. It is thinly sliced, rare, and delicious. The pizza is ok. Everything is reasonably priced and I would go back again.
