I wouldn’t take A bird here first of all it’s exactly what everyone has experienced as well. They don’t answer the phone you need to wait outside in the car while Staff torture them and give you a quote on how much the cost ? for my indoor cat ? which she called him fat he was 16 pound’s and stop feeding him both wet and dry food immediately cold turkey!! ? Then don’t even tell you about the my cat’s physical condition money hungry unprofessional. I requested Dr Freedman everyone said he’s wonderful and I never returned. I take my cat to Atlantic Vet In Marblehead which I have been going there for years but I’m on my way out of there next because there starting to turn into them I saw it with my cat’s last physical they didn’t run no stool test , no suggestions and over 100$$ something dollars and 3,000 for new teeth . Runnn

Love the re-launch of Hawthorne. You get the care and professionalism of Atlantic Veterinary Hospital with the smaller and intimate feel of Hawthorne.

Horrible experience. Dr. Freeman hated our dog who was nervous around him. Our new Vet can't believe the horrible notes he wrote about him. Glad they are closing.

Not only did they treat my pig with respect and care, Luna needed surgery to remove two mast cell tumors. The operation, which includes removing most of Luna's tail, was a huge success and Dr. Freedman made the tail look so cute.

Have taken 5 cats to Dr Freedman in the past 17 years. He is gruff but incredibly compassionate. I don't know Dr Thomas but my interactions with her were fine. Because of the pandemic and the fact that SO many people adopted pets in the last 2 years, they've got strict protocols in place to protect the staff. They are overwhelmed with patients and they are humans who sometimes have a rough day. They are fair, competitively priced, understand that people who love animals come from all socioeconomic backgrounds and will work with you to keep costs down if you are low income. I know it hurts them to see some animals not getting all the care they should be, but they UNDERSTAND that a lot of us can only do the best we can do, and that we sacrifice to give our furs the best care we can manage. I can't give them a high enough review. I found them after going to 3 others that were greatly overpriced, had dirty exam rooms, and one that oversedated my 1st kitten during her spay. Dr Freedman and the staff are phenomenal. I was SO glad to find a vet who does NOT sell cat food for a kickback. He believes in raw feeding. He believes in natural medicine where possible. I am grateful to him for his compassion and care for my sweet cats over most of the last 2 decades.

I discovered that hollistic meant not getting the antibiotics the cat needed . Went to a realistic vet instead.

NEW UPDATE: AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. Just came back from the last time I will ever bring my dogs here. They quoted a price for the bloodwork to be done on my dogs....only to tell me afterwards that they were charging 4x what I was quoted. They then said they can "never" give an accurate price until the day of. These people are inept and rude. These people say something different every time you speak with them and are awful to work with. I am done. UPDATE: I just made a new appt on the phone, thPat was not easy to do. I called back because I had asked for the price and they never gave it to me, only to be told AGAIN that I didn't have an appt. Scheduled that day. I don't know what is wrong with this place, but it is so unprofessional and unreliable. have had MAJOR issues anytime we try and make an appointment here. as in, they tell me I have an appt but book it on a different day, or book it and then come back and tell me they can't do it then, or they call multiple times to confirm or they just don't bother making an appt despite giving you a day and time. they also never bothered calling with test results and lost the several documents I had to fill out about my dogs histories. singularly unimpressed. always an excuse. Dr. Thomas was the most unfriendly person I've met in a long time. I will not be going back to her. Dr. Freedman was friendly and seemed interested in my dog in a way that Dr. Thomas was not. still, can't recommend this practice and hope to get in somewhere else soon.

The foster dog had an appointment at Hawthorne. We were met by knowledgable and pleasant staff. The facility was clean and precautions were in place. It was a good experience.

The worst is when they tell you your pet is fat . They all want money now with Covid . Their rude don’t tell anything. I agree with your comment Katelyn.

Let me start by saying that I NEVER write negative reviews, but my experiences with Hawthorne Animal Health Care absolutely warrants a very constructive review.First visit: we brought our 3 month old lab puppy for his vaccination/wellness appointment. Due to COVID, we were not allowed inside (which is understandable). They took him inside. Not even 10 minutes later, they brought him out, which I thought was a very short visit for his first appointment... especially since the "exam" cost $75 not including cost of the vaccine. The vet called me from inside and gave me a quick review of his weight and what vaccine she gave him. She didn't ask if I had any questions. She almost hung up before I could even tell her that I had questions. She also seemed annoyed by my questions.A visit in between for additional vaccinations was similar.Third visit: we brought our puppy in because it looked like he had ringworm. I have had dogs that have ringworm and my husband also tested positive for ringworm. Before even looking at him, the vet said that she needed to do a $90 PCR test to confirm, which I thought was ridiculous before even examining him. She then took him back and said that it might be ringworm, but that I still needed to do the test to confirm. Even though it was not confirmed, she gave me a shampoo to use. I asked what else it could be and she laughed at the question as if it was ridiculous to ask and then said " I don't know". How can a trained vet not even have a guess as to what a rash could be? Then I go to pay and not only do I pay for the $90 PCR test, I am charged an $80 fee for a "visual diagnosis exam" that lasted no more than 10 minutes. If you can't give my a diagnosis, I don't thinks it's fair to charge such a high fee. Not only that, but she explained that she shaved the infected area, but couldn't get all of it because my dog was "crazy." She referred to him as "crazy" without laughing or making a joke of it. He was 4 months, he's not crazy.... he's a puppy that has never been around a razor. I also did not appreciate her shaving him without asking me. Such poor bedside manner.Final interaction: *Puppy is 6 months at this point* I called Hawthore because I never received my puppies rabies vaccine tag, which is typically provided after rabies shots. The receptionist checked his records and let me know that he hasn't received his rabies vaccine!? Of course, I panicked because they are supposed to be given around 14 weeks! I asked why he hadn't received it and she said because of this previous infection and that he would receive it when it cleared up. He should have received it way before he even got the infection. When I told her she said that they are a "holistic vet" and that they do not give shots all at once, which is fine but NO ONE EVER told me about this or explained the vaccine schedule! No one ever told me to call and schedule a next appointment for the shot either. The receptionist was not empathetic or understanding of why I was concerned. If I didn't call to get his tag, I would have never known that he didn't receive his rabies vaccine and he probably would have gone 6 more months without it!The irresponsibility of the vet, lack of beside manner, lack of communication is astounding. Needless to say, we are changing vets.
