Very disappointed, the stylist did a terrible job, was trying to be nice and didn’t even complain about it went to another beauty salon to get my hair fixed, my daughter was sick the day of my appointment and I explained to the receptionist and didn’t even bother and still changed me $270 for not canceling my appointment.. very disappointed.

A cool place and EXCELLENT hair styling! I've been going to see Sara for more than a decade, she can tame my not-quite-straight-not-quite-wavy hair like none other! Also, now that I'm a bit older, Sara has been helping cover my grey/white strands with super-natural color (which is hard because I'm naturally a strawberry blonde). This place is excellent, and conveniently located right in the middle of Salem.
Update: I’ve been seeing Sara for over a decade and it’s still a wonderful, calm, welcoming place for everyone to get excellent haircare.

I got my curly haircut for the first time at Moon Baby after years of going to other specialists in the Boston area, and I can say this is by far my favorite cut of all time.
Kelsey did an amazing job asking me questions and working with the very little information I provided about what I wanted. She was very sweet and welcoming, and was just an amazing stylist overall. Definitely going back here for all my next cuts.
In terms of the atmosphere, it was a very interesting space with lots of decor, but nothing that overwhelmed me. It was a calm environment and all the other staff were respectful as well. Just a great place overall.

PREFACE:
I've always struggled booking hair appointments. Firstly, my hair is very thick and the trial/error process of finding someone that knows how to handle my hair has not been kind to me over the years. Secondly, I have always felt awkward in regular salons where my hair dressers were always very hyper femme and trying to fill the silence with girl talk (often defaulting to heteronormative topics).
AMBIENCE AND SERVICE:
This is the first salon that I have ever walked into that has made me feel comfortable or at home. I grew up as a little edgy emo kid, so the feeling of not quite fitting in was sort of a default setting. Not here, though. Kate does my hair and she is very attentive, friendly and cool. She does a great job with handling the volume control of my hair.
I convinced my wife to book an equinox appointment with Angelica to teach her about curly hair maintenance and she was also very attentive and patient with our questions, providing great insight and advice.
UNIQUE FEATURES:
When booking an appointment, there is a consultation form to fill out, outlining what you do and dont like about your hair and what the goals/concerns are. They really fine tune each appointment to their client's needs. There is also an option for silent appointments for those that have social anxiety, which I find truly awesome and considerate.
It is hard to find places that care this much and I hope this salon remains here and never leaves. (Please, I really dont want to hunt for a new salon again).

There is no other place on earth quite like Moon Baby! From the moment I walk in,
I am welcomed by the friendliest humans. By the time I’m in the chair I am beaming with excitement because I know, it’s going to be good!! I am in constant awe of Sara and her craft. She’s kind , honest, and safe. I always leave feeling refreshed, confident and pampered. Thank you all for always making it a magical experience for me!

I have been going to Moon Baby salon since they opened and have had a pleasure of working with Sara, the owner. Not only do I get so many compliments on my haircuts, but you can tell that they run a business that cares about their employees. They have products that are cruelty, free, and I always feel like I am visiting family when I go.

I absolutely love this salon. I’ve been getting my hair cut and colored here since it first opened, and will keep going until the day I die- I’m a groupie for life. I am lucky to have Sara (salon owner) as my stylist, and I’ve known her for many years! She truly just gets me and my hair and always gives me the best cuts and looks. But there are lots of other incredible hair stylists as well! So so much talent. The salon itself is also just such a great space, it’s always enjoyable to be there. I have the highest praise for Moon Baby and give it my fullest endorsement!

Sara and the Moonbaby staff have consistently provided the most outstanding experience in the 7 years that I have been a customer at this shop. The atmosphere is extremely calming and comfortable, the staff are friendly and encouraging, and Sara is an absolute master of her craft. I have always walked out of the shop happy and fulfilled. I cannot recommend Sara and her shop enough. A delightful experience and the only place I trust with my hair care and needs.

I have been going to Moon Baby for years. I followed Sara from Boston to Salem. The salon is very cute and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I change my mind constantly and Sara has pretty much made my hair every color of the rainbow while maintaining my hair health. I've walked in and said I wanted black bangs, eight weeks later I'm done with black bangs and she's made them a whole other color! When I can't make up my mind she's talked me through the options until we've decided on the best path forward. I'm constantly getting compliments not only my hair color but how healthy my hair is for coloring it as often as I do. This is all thanks to Sara and the Moon Baby team.

I have never been to a more beautiful, welcoming and vibrant salon. The rest of the world falls away when you pull open the door to 302B Essex street. There is an electricity in the air that fills you with excitement as soon as you cross the threshold. The atmosphere is alive with the sounds of patrons beaming with delight over their haircuts, hair dryers, and laughter between friends.
I've been getting my hair done at Moonbaby since the day they opened. It is a place that I feel more than comfortable inside. As much as I would trust every stylist at Moonbaby implicitly with my hair, I could never break away from Sara. In the many years Sara has been doing my hair she has never given me a bad hair cut/style/color. Sara always greets you with genuine excitement and warmth. Sara feels more like an old friend than a hair stylist. She gives honest feedback about what is and isn't possible and never steers you in the wrong direction. I would recommend Moonbaby hair salon to anyone as they are all inclusive and can make magic happen for anyone.

I love this salon. Nicole does a beautiful job with my color and treating my hair, which can be a bit unruly. The vibe is very cool — very Salem and chill and down to earth. Highly recommend.
