So I had several dealings with whom I presume was the Manager on Duty this evening. (She was a brunette white woman in her 20s, probably 5'6". I didn't get her name.) She really blew me away with her efficiency: in the span of 5 minutes that I was in the store, she supervised the self-checkout area, unlocked the customer service area and helped me return a Fedex package, removed several mis-scanned items from my cart, and found a lost credit card. All with a smile.

Star Market advertises great prices, but it's a bait and switch. The coupons are digital, and if you don't remember, during the other activities during check out you don't get the price. Never going back there again. I think their business model is a hairs breath this side of bait and switch

Very expensive. Prices comparable to Whole Foods.Poor selection of low quality foods. Comparable to a small Stop and Shop.I have only seen an employee smile once there. Culture comparable to a sweat mine. For these reasons, it is usually not busy. That is the one thing it has going for it.The Market Basket a ten minute walk away is 100x better grocery store but, for this reason, it is always very busy.I only go to this grocery store when I have to, to buy a small handful of items I need right then. For regular shopping I go to Market Basket— higher quality, more variety, and about 40% lower prices. Market Basket is a real grocery store. This Star Market is a bad grocery store.

The variety is terrible, the hours are great and everything is easy to find if you simply say to yourself "Where would be the last place I would put (blank) in a supermarket smaller than the average CVS?" It's like a scavenger hunt for impulse buys so expensive now that this store actually saves you money. Just walking in the door... Can't beat that. And the variety is fine, the real question is:"How bad do you really want it?"Btw, if in doubt, try the last isle. It seems to have everything that didn't fit anywhere else, logically not physically.(Except bottled water, that's with the service desk, where it all started.)Or just use the app. It has the 'last seen in' location.

Very dirty store. Their bathrooms are totally disgusting and have no soap in them. Management is very unprofessional and lazy. I can't tell you how many times I've picked up an item there and it's expired. One of them employees there even called another customer a weirdo to another employee based of what the person there was wearing. Used to work here so can speak on exp there's definitely a few rodents in the store management plays favorites with their full timers and spits in the faces of the part timers. They speak to you very rudely and will make you feel like your over reacting or that your causing the issue you speak up on. They don't rotate their groceries for the most part their produce is always on the floor just to be put on the shelf again, their breads and pastries are always torn open by rats. Every night there'd be a damaged food item in the back because they got to it. Management does nothing about this. And when a customer leaves milk in an aisle and it's past the refrigerate period they still put it back. Trust me your doing your self and community a favor don't shop there the one in Porter square is better.

I like this supermarket mainly because it is never crowded and close to where I live. The selection is not particularly great but good enough to happily come here every week. The Market Basket in Union Square is better and certainly cheaper but it's always insanely crowded. If you live nearby and don't want a crowded store, this is the ideal one for this area.

This place is about as close to me as the Porter Square Star Market, but more convenient in many ways. That's always parking, there are almost never lines, and they carry most of the same things that the larger store does. They are limited to certain sizes, though; if you want a whole quart of Goya juice in a Tetra Pak you'll need to go somewhere bigger, but they'll probably have your flavor in smaller cans. The staff are friendly in my experience, but I haven't interacted with them much either. I finally figured out that their oils and condiments are across from the fresh produce instead of one of the other shelf-stable food aisles. This place has self checkout now!

The worst store in the town. Labels show different prices/discounts, and you pay absolutely different prices.

This Star Market looks quite a bit older and feels slightly more compact than most supermarkets in the region, but it still has mostly everything you'd expect of a Shaw's or Star outlet here in New England - or an Albertson's or Safeway in the West Coast (they share the same owner and even the same labels and signage on the shelves). Think produce, refrigerated meats and seafood, dairy, frozen items, and all the usual aisles of packaged items in the middle. It's located in the middle of a dense residential area on the Cambridge/Somerville border and is a decent go-to for everyday needs. There's a parking lot that's decently sized relative to the store's footprint. Especially helpful was one gentleman who appeared to shopping for his own needs on his own time, but was very, very knowledgeable about the store and very outgoing to see if I needed help - as if he were an off-duty employee.
