DO NOT COME HERE FOR EMERGENCIES!This has got to be the most unprofessional, unorganized, uncaring ER hospital I have ever encountered.I came here to support my cousin who had severe stomach pain from throwing up all day amongst other things. He could not drive so I drove him, he could barely walk.We walked in, it was overwhelmingly packed. We checked in and we sat and waited for a good hour before he was triaged. It took them another 4 hours to take him. They ended up putting him in the hallway. Where everyone could here your business…there goes HIPPA ??♀️I was outside and he called me complaining he had not been seen. I inquired as to when do they think he could be seen. The nurses at the front desk acted clueless. They replied they have no idea what’s going on in the back…not to mention they were, dismissive, short and appeared to be very annoyed. So I say let me get back there…only to find my cousin suffering further. I had to request a blanket and pillow for him. He was cold and severely dehydrated. We sat for another 3 hours before he was called in for an EKG and administered an IV. Still no doctor in sight. Then the IV was empty for two hours before we had to request it get taken out of his arm. No one checks in. SMH we just checked in and now we have to wait for a CT scan which could take another 4 hours. No doctor in sight. The bedside manner at this hospital is trash…several nurses walk by you with no acknowledgment, make no eye contact and appear to be extremely annoyed when you ask them for anything. We are currently still in the hallway , where it seems so empty and it feels like we have been forgotten. You are not offered anything but their backs. No one checks in, they will keep telling you they can’t do anything for you cause they’re “not your nurse”. There no sense of urgency here..they either chatter boxing away or staring into space. This hospital is one lawsuit away from a shut down. I get short staff and I heard about the downsizing but that doesn’t have to impede on good bedside manner. If you have a serious emergency DO NOT come here, it may cost you your life!!I will never refer this ER to anyone, and have advised my cousin not to ever come back.Be blessed and stay safe out there folks…cause it’s very a COLD world.Ya’ll need to get it together before someone dies because of your neglectful practices and tactics…Respectfully Submitted

My husband had best possible thorough treatment from ER to Cardiology to other depts. during a 3 day weekend. Doctors, nurses treatment and entire experience was great. Treated like family and not visitors from Florida. Weekend parking was the only troublesome area. Thank You South Shore.

Nurses & all staff I've encountered here are very kind. Unfortunately, the hospital is overcrowded & understaffed. Parking is incredibly difficult as well - this hospital is often very busy.

I’ve been coming here for over 2 years now. It’s a busy hospital, and you can’t expect it to be a fast food joint. My life was saved here at some points. Respectful and caring people all throughout. Thank you to all the nurses, doctors and any other medical staff for treating me with respect and true care for my wellbeing. And shout out to the bridge program. They provide excellent service to those in tough spots and mothers. All of you stay in my heart.

I was admitted to south shore hospital following a fall down my basement stairs. I did not go by ambulance I went to urgent care with severe pain and was given a c-collar and was driven to south shore hospital. I was taken right back and given a trauma panel , and after several tests I was admitted. My nurse Amanda on Emerson 5 was INCREDIBLE! she was so attentive and gentle. I would absolutely recommend south shore hospital

I delivered my second baby boy over the summer and I forgot to write a review. We had the absolute best nurses, I think of them everyday still. From L&D I had a nurse named Samantha that held my hand and talked me through the whole prep during my c section, the peds nurse was also amazing. Over on the maternity unit we had Danielle during the day and Carolyn, and my entire stay overnights was Mary C. Mary is a freaking Angel heaven sent nurse. My baby boy ended up having to be in the NICU at the end of our stay, she stayed past her shift the night it happened to make sure we were okay and to talk us through everything that happened. We will never forget her. I hope that girl gets the biggest raise of the night shift nurses. If we have a third I hope we get the same group. So thankful for all of them

This is about 6th floor emerson (oncology)If I could give zero stars I would. Mom went into hospital for UTI but they found advanced cancer with mets. I was told by doctors she had weeks to a couple months to live. The first 3 days staff was amazing. I then had a PA Danielle that convinced me to sign DNR/DNI. I was promised my mom would receive same amount of care till heart stopped. Next day everyone from case manager - Steph C- to nurse Jess or Jenn, had a nasty attitude and tried to stop me from speaking to doctors and tried to push my mom out of hospital back to nursing home. I tried to stop the discharge, afraid of the care level at her nursing home and had to tell Steph C that I was writing a bad google review with her name in it and also would sue if they took my mom out of hospital. This was after several minutes of arguing where she said the ambulance was there to take her away and I was too late and also threatened I would have to private pay for the ambulance, (pretty sure this was a lie). Only under threat of bad review and asking Steph her full name was I told I could file a medicare appeal. I did, it bought my mom 2 days in hospital. Unfortunately it also killed her because in retaliation Steph C signed off less than 2 hours later that I changed my mom to “cmo” (comfort measures only) over phone, which I would never do. They apparently stopped treating her UTI, possibly infected bed sore they tried to hide from me, and from what I can tell they stopped feeding her and giving her her normal medications and she left in a coma 2 days later. I was never informed of her condition getting worse. My family flew cross country to see her only to be greeted by her unconscious body on arrival at nursing home. They called hospital that morning to see about visiting but were told not to come because she was leaving that hour. She arrived at nursing home 15 minutes away 3 hours later comatose and never woke up again. Pretty sure my mom was murdered

The pediatric er and pediatric floor went above and beyond to make my little guy and our family feel safe and well take care of. The er had very short wait times. The nurses, care staff, doctors all were exemplary in their bed side manner and medical care. Once my baby was admitted to the pediatric unit I felt like everyone on the floor worked as a team. They went above and beyond. I can’t say enough nice things about this hospital. Thank you for taking such good care of my son.

We arrived at the ER at approximately 11:30 PM, were checked in and within ten minutes vitals were taken. Then we waited about an hour for some blood work to be done. It wasn’t until almost 4 AM that my significant other was called into the ER. We sat in the waiting area for almost four hours, insane! Then it wasn’t until almost 7 in the morning when we saw a doctor. The doctor was very nice, listened to all concerns. The nurses sucked. We spent the whole night there, so god forbid I fall asleep on the stretcher next to my significant other. I felt uncomfortable about it (we were in the hallway as it was) but it was unsafe for me to drive home as I hadn’t slept. Then I was woken up by the dayshift nurse screaming in my ear and to the whole wing, “You guys can’t be sleeping in the same stretcher!” Jesus Christ, maybe if your place of work hadn’t kept us there all night it wouldn’t have happened, and you don’t need to announce it to the whole floor like we’re doing something nefarious. Super embarrassing, and unnecessary.Additionally, when we arrived, one of the nurses that was working the overnight shift stuck my significant other with a needle as if she was going to provide saline, but she never did. He had to provide a urine sample, but some urine got on his hospital gown, so he asked for a new one and they never brought it. They checked his blood pressure, saw how unusually high it was, and didn’t do anything until the doctor arrived. Everyone who checked his blood pressure acted like they had no idea that extreme pain could cause high blood pressure. Terrible experience at this hospital’s ER. Can’t believe we wasted time here.

I give all the nurses on the 3rd floor surgical department a 100% 5 stars. From start to finish, very caring and sincere loving for all their patients.I had never had surgery before and the ease me in telling me every detail, I don't even remember rolling down the halll or back. My anesthesiologist Mike I think was amazing with my IV and what he administered was literally like Clockwork. I was prepared to be there until somewhere between 6 and 8 pm. But I was awake by 11:30 am from. 7:30 surgery and on my feet getting dressed by noon. Thanks to my amazing talented Eye ear nose, Head surgeon Dr Cathy Chong. There was never a moment when I was in my recovery bed that a nurse was not withing 5 feet of me.I have no words to describe their professionalism and truly above and beyond bed side manner. So Grateful for everyone on the 3rd floor and South Shore Hospital working so hard to maintain during this very challenging time for Hospitals in Massachusetts. Thanks Dr. Chong for leading your team with empathy and kindness.Sincerely-Heather Hammitt
