We contracted Bonsai Builders to finish up our basement and they have been the best and easiest to work with. Kristin and Jason impressed us with their creative ideas in making a small space very functional. They are friendly and always have a solution for any road block faced. One of best things about them is they plan for both, the best and worst case scenario. During the project, we had some road blocks with our town’s building department- Jason and Kristin had already prepared us and budgeted for an alternate case scenario that helped ensure there were no surprises and we staying within the planned project cost.
We liked working with them so much that we have also carved out other small projects for the future where we would wish to continue working with them.

Working with Bonsai Builders/Jason and Kristin was truly a pleasure!! As a first time home buyer, it was unsettling when the town informed me that my basement was not up to code. Working directly with the Building Department was not the easiest task and successfully bringing the basement up to code seemed like a distant dream when the permit filed by another contractor was denied by the Building Department and multiple other contractors refused to take on a project they perceived as challenging (over the course of a year and a half).
That was the first time I reached out to Bonsai Builders and it was the best decision I made. Super responsive and professional right from the get go, they gave me an extremely reasonable project quote (the lowest among 4 contractors who had agreed to attempt the project) and even made recommendations on how I could further reduce costs when I felt I was getting close to the upper end of my budget. Once I confirmed that I would be proceeding with them, they took things into their hands completely - they filed the permits and took care of all matters with the Building Department. It was the most hassle free experience.
They maintained the same level of responsiveness and professionalism throughout. Their entire team, right from the office staff to the workers onsite were extremely polite, courteous and trustworthy - I was out of town for 2 weeks and provided access to the house so that the work could proceed - there were absolutely no issues.
At no point did I feel like they were in it just for the money - they did not even ask for certain installments of their payments that were due earlier right until the end of the project.
I must also mention their store that has great options and the Store Manager, Rob, who put in a great amount of time and effort providing me with valuable information and insights.
Opting for Bonsai Builders is definitely a choice you won’t regret.

"My wife and I in 2024 had the pleasure of working with Bonsai Builders/Kristin & Jason Hintlian for the construction of my front entry and backyard barn, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. From start to finish, the Bonsai team demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship, professionalism, promptness (showed up when they said they would and called if they couldn’t) and attention to detail.
The front entry now looks stunning and welcoming, with beautiful finishes(thanks also to Bevolo Lighting out of New Orleans) and a look that Kristin and my wife designed which now perfectly complements the style of our home. The barn is equally impressive—spacious, durable, and exactly what I had envisioned for my property. There custom glass dutch doors and barn sliders are incredible.
Throughout the project, communication was clear and consistent, and the team was always on budget. They were responsive to my ideas and offered valuable suggestions to improve the design. They also ensured everything was done to the highest standard, leaving the job site clean and tidy at the end of each day.

Jason and Kristin were terrific in helping us fix a major issue in our circa 1800 home after a tree fell on our house. They understood our family vibe, style, rhythm, and even suggested some really cute and creative ideas for solving some issues in our home. This company was awesome in building us a new deck. Quality work, good communication, and professionalism. They ground down plenty of granite, saved the plants per request, replaced the old cornerstone supporting our 70 yr old cabin with a better support for the cabin and deck, and they even threw in a few extras. Definately a reliable company we will likely use again.

Bonsai Builders did a remarkable job on a tile shower and floor in my home. They were very professional, courteous, and always on time. The bathroom looks amazing! Their estimate was accurate, they never tried to 'mark up' anything, didn't run into 'unexpected' problems, were completely honest and upfront about the cost, timeline, and work that would be done. It's hard to find contractors these days that you can trust, and Bonsai is absolutely trustworthy, AND the work they did is gorgeous! I'm looking forward to my next remodel project and will definitely hire them again. Highly recommend!

Excellent professional work from Brian and Wally. They were on time, polite and left the area completely cleaned after they finished. Their skills were obvious considering repair work can be so difficult trying to blend with the existing structure.

Our experience with Bonsai Builders was nothing short of fantastic! We did a large-scale house reno - kitchen, new bath, windows / doors, etc. Kristin and Jason are hard-working, talented professionals. They are always responsive and completed our project within our tight timeline. They handled our concerns with kindness and dealt with challenges like true pros. Bonsai Builders remodeled two of our bathrooms recently. We got multiple quotes and bids and decided to award Bonsai the contract based on the thoroughness and attention to detail they provided in their very first proposal. They were certainly not the cheapest but they also weren't the most expensive. While Jason and his team took care of all the designing and renovation of our bathrooms, Kristin was super helpful in guiding us to the materials that eventually worked for us. This took a while but with good reason -- Kristin really wanted us to be certain that we were choosing the materials that gelled with our aesthetic values. As for the build, I cannot recommend Jason's dedicated crew and their superb attention to detail enough -- Dave, Rich & Co were quite simply the best. He also has excellent plumbers and electricians on call that really know what they are doing, and when minor mistakes are made as they invariably happen on projects of this magnitude, they are very willing to fix their mistakes. I am looking forward to having Jason and his crew back on future remodeling projects in our home.

I have an older home and was looking to retain a vintage look for a bathroom remodel. Kristin understood immediately what I was trying to accomplish, and she and Jason came up with a beautiful design that maintained some special features. The look and quality of the finished room is outstanding. I’m very happy with my new bathroom!
