Up until last month I would have given zero to one star. I was planning to never shop here again after a string of bad experiences a few years back. However, I feel I owe them this update since we got a gift card and, not wanting to waste it, we popped in to grab a few things and found that they had made some improvements. 4 years ago the only positive thing I would have said is that I kind of liked that robot who cleaned the floors. Now I would add that their produce section appears vastly improved, their meat counter was staffed, and the shelves looked like someone was making an effort to stock them and keep them current. They are also carrying brands I care about and their design flow has improved. I have to give credit. Both entrance doors were operational, which increased my feeling of safety and improved the flow of customers. Kudos for those improvements. Here is what they still need to work on: Service levels could still be improved; the self-checkout machines are the worst (you can't start bagging until all items are on the platform, then it immediately starts pressuring you to hurry up and move along....it's needlessly stressful, you should be able to bag as you scan); floors look beat-up and dirty (where is Marty the robot?????); the prices are as high as their competitor, where the service levels are much higher. The best self-checkouts are at Wal-Mart, and the best service is at Big Y. Aldi has the best prices. Stop N Shop has a few brands that it's hard to find elsewhere, but other than that I am not sure what they are doing to be competitive at this location. Just being a little kinder to customers, or having self checkout that is less cumbersome, those things go a long way. Based on this visit, I actually will probably start coming here again from time to time, which I had sworn I would never do, so it's a start, but we are a long way from them winning me back as the loyal customer I used to be.

If they are going to lower how many cashiers they have to have self check out, then they need to commit better. Only 4 self check outs and 1 or 2 cashiers? I never come here and don’t see lines snaking the isles because there’s no room and no employees or self check out registers. Get it together stop and shop.

They stopped selling under 3/4ths of a pound and the half pound bags of deli meats in the grab & go. Had to dig through bags upon bags of meat and cheese looking for a half pound of turkey and ended up just not getting anything because it was all .75lbs and above. Who gets over .75lbs of deli meat at the grab and go?! That’s just ridiculous. What’s next…. only FULL pounds of meat and cheese in the grab and go?! Have fun with all of that waste.

There were products that required clipped coupons, and they were not on the
app. One of the employees was very helpful and said they had to change prices all day. I bought the one sale combo and left. I couldn't deal with having to ask the cashier to override prices.

Genuinely one of the most dirty, poorly managed, and embarrassing locations. If I was corporate I would be pretty livid. One register ever open and self check out lines literally fully down the aisle with only one employee. The store has a distinct mildew scent and it always appears dirty. Genuinely cannot understand how the hell this location is still open, there’s rarely more than four employees upfront and rarely are they helpful. Like genuinely I rarely leave reviews but after years of living near this location I don’t understand how people choose this location over even the lowest tier Big Y store. You should all be embarrassed, waiting nearly half an hour in line is a regular occurrence and then the self checkout machines are nothing but issues even when you use them correctly. Just AWFUL.

Why cant S&S management do like most other stores and LIMIT the amount of items for those who want to use Self Checkout as a process to expedite their trip???
Why do they ALLOW people with FULL shopping carts this option when it ties up a spot for over 20+minutes.and truly slows down an otherwise "express function"
Where is the "express checkout" for your store??
The store management has the POWER & POLICY to change this so why don't they??
Simply deplorable....

This Stop n Shop gets worse and worse. There was once an employee at this store who was openly racist (the N word) and instead of firing her they transferred her to the Cooley St store. That being said, there is also racism on the other side. The tall African American guy at self checkout is rude, and has ZERO hustle. I could deal with all that, but today was over the top. He had assured me I could run back for a minute to swap one item and he'd watch my stuff/ station. The second I turned around he abruptly moved my bags off the checkout (I was gone less than one minute). I know now that this was deliberately done. His handling of my bags was so rough that 2 eggs fell out of the carton and one broke, the yolk spilling over a few items. What he did next was unacceptable. He took my loaf of bread from a different bag and laid it over the carton of eggs to HIDE what he did. I noticed it when I got to my car and I had to go back into the store. I always have my eggs on top. This jerk gaslit me, stated that I was crazy, waved me away, denied everything and also tried to rally support from customers, acting like I was some Karen complaining about nothing and making the whole thing up- even as I held up the cracked egg. Of course the poc customers automatically assumed I was wrong even though they knew NOTHING about what had happened before they even got there, but I'm certain that was his goal. I HAD to go to the manager because this was beyond unacceptable. I would have let it go, as bad as he was, had he not broken my eggs AND attempted to hide it. I am all for second chances but this jerk is irredeemable. He needs to be fired. Only a lowlife would damage someone's groceries, attempt to hide it, then lie about it. I never put ANYTHING on top of eggs. Ever. The bread didn't just walk out of one bag and onto the top of another bag. People will never learn until they get consequences.
Update: I called corporate complaints- something I rarely do. I'm going to have District pull the tape from the cameras. Then we will see who's lying and who moved my eggs, tried to cover it up and then gaslit me in front of people.
