Eric runs a nice small-town buy/sell/trade shop in Turners Falls (next door to The Shea Theater) specializing in music, movies, video games, and home A/V equipment. He has media of all kinds - new and used vinyl, tapes, CD's, VHS, DVD's, even Laserdiscs! With a nice selection of oddities peppered in.
He also sells some quality brand name vintage equipment to play all the formats he stocks - amplifiers, speakers, record players, disc players, mixers, tape machines, video players, radios and more. Tested with a guarantee to match, they make excellent gifts!
If you're into retro gaming, there are classic consoles like NES and Sega Genesis, DS, Game Boy, Xbox, Wii, PlayStation and variety of titles spanning all eras of video game culture including some niche items like big box PC games!
Trade-ins are welcomed (call ahead).
I've been shopping there for a few years now because he often gets interesting things that I like to add to my library. Some of my favorite games came from his store! (Mike Tyson's Punch-Out was one of the first carts I bought there for my newly acquired NES, a game that is still in my top favorites after nearly 40 years!) Very rarely have I needed to return anything defective, and when I have there were no issues, the guarantee is more than fair.
There are many other regular customers who have established a personal rapport with Eric and come to the store periodically because he knows what we like and we're always curious to see what will show up in the new arrivals.
Breakdown Records also sponsors a vinyl night at the Rendezvous local restaurant/bar, playing a selection of records available from the store for sale as well as a bring your own option if there's something you'd like to share over cocktails.
I'm very glad to have something like this in my town. Supporting local business is vital to the community in so many ways, so I do it whenever possible.
Breakdown Records is a charming shop worth visiting and re-visiting for the collector and a great place to find a gift.
Rock on Eric!

Great store! I’ve been coming here since he opened up in Turners falls and I’ve had a great experience here. Every year I get CDs for the holidays here and so far there has not been a single thing that he can’t order in case he doesn’t have it in stock which is awesome! If there’s something you’re looking for and he doesn’t have, it never hurts to ask because he could probably find it for you. I will definitely keep coming back.

Great little record shop in Turners Falls. Good selection of used vinyl, as well as cassettes and some vintage video games.

This record shop is small but they did have some great finds! The reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because they could be a little more organized with the records. Most shops have them in alphabetical order but they just had them listed by genre. Compared to other shops it was a smaller selection, but if you’re in the area I’d definitely stop in! I did find a record that was actually signed by the band which is pretty cool. They’re priced very fair.

My first visit and I'll definitely be back. The store offered used vinyl, CDs and I saw a number of vintage turntables and speakers. They had less vinyl than some other stores but I still managed to walk out with a number of albums at a very fair price. Well worth a visit! It's right on the main drag so it's easy to find and in an area of other great storefronts so enjoy your time in Turners Falls.

The vinyl and CDs are nicely alphabetized and easy to browse. They also have tapes, VHS, and a lot of DVDs. They sell retro games, game systems, retro video players and audio systems. Some books on music, a few comic books, some books on tape. The kind of store where you think you'd be able to find just about anything if you asked. It was a fun store to browse--nobody bothering you and good music playing--and the stuff was in good condition. They had a lot of other stock in boxes around the store or under tables labeled "for cleaning" and I noticed that the vinyl was labeled and priced accordingly if it had a defect (like "nice cover but skips"), though most didn't need such labels, so you won't feel regret when you go to play. I imagine it would be worth coming back since they'd have fresh stock out.

This spot in Turners Falls is definitely worth stopping by. Small but worthwhile used vinyl selection, reasonably priced (most $5-20). Lots of classic country when I stopped in, though nothing is very organized. Records I bought had been well cleaned and were in very nice shape, especially considering the price. They also have cds, books, dvds, stereo equipment.

Eric, the owner, is fantastic and involved with some of the music happenings in town. I always like stopping by and browsing - a mix of new and old LPs, singles, and so on. Different genres vinyl records and CDs and tapes(!). He also has video/film. And used stereo equipment. Cute little shop! Stop in! Get something from the $1 bin or pick up a rare Amy Winehouse record! Why not?
