I stopped at the Belmont Savings Bank located in the Star Market on Lexington St. in Waltham while doing my grocery shopping. I needed to get change for a $100.00 dollar bill and was told unless I am a customer they would not make the change for me. Really???? I had to go across the street to the Bank Of America. No problem... They didn't even ask if I was a customer, which I am. Don't have to worry but me opening up an account there!

Read BELOW!!!! Honestly the best bank I have ever had.They are super nice and give you a refund for ANY ATM surcharge, even the $6.50 surcharge at Foxwoods! They also cover your paycheck immediately...Citizens would make me wait up to 3 days for it to clear and they were generally fake to your face. They cover your account up to $800 I think...amazing ....seriously...and the hours are incredible, no more rushing to the bank by 4pm... food for thought..GREAT BANK!!!

Avoid at all costs. I have my mortgage through Belmont Savings, and set up automatic payments two years ago. Their system recently failed to process my automatic payment (again, two years into our mortgage relationship) and they fined me $266. No wave of fee despite it being their mistake, then when I tried to make the payment over the phone or online they had ability to do that, so I had to mail in a check. No flexibility, irrational, terrible customer service, no appreciation of customers or their loyalty, and no technology to conduct banking basics.

I can't say they were even close to mediocre. They handle my transactions with bare minimum conversation. Half-assed, not even close to genuine, cross selling from both teller and platform employees. There was no real interest in me the entire time I was there. In an industry where all the products and services are the same, one would think "what I can control is offering the best customer service in the industry!" I called the branch to ask why they charged me a fee when they said it would be a courtesy, and the assistant branch manager said it would take up to two days to get an approval to maybe refund it. At $6 I'm not sweating the fee, I'm just critical of the principle of the matter. However, I'm grateful to have the mobile app, check card, ATM, and automatic payments so I never have to set foot in this branch again.
