I was thoroughly impressed with Jamie Sampson at Athenahealth. She was thorough, timely, and professional. Any new practices looking to streamline processes and have EMR needs crafted to their practice, look no further. Jamie went above and beyond to connect me with like-minded professionals in the field and walked us through the entire process. Her interpersonal skills and expertise were evident from our first interaction. I will definitely will be recommending Athenahealth to other practices in the area.

Athena is a billing nightmare. Truly. I can't begin to tell you what a billing nightmare it has been to work with Athena. Somehow, my review on Capterra was not accepted. I think that maybe Athena owns the world and people are not allowed to say bad things about them. I never thought it was possible for an experience with billing to be so bad. Avoid, avoid, avoid. Do not use this EMR/PM software. It is not worth the upsides when claims have to be resubmitted 9 times (literally). Every other billing/EMR software/billing option I've used is less overcomplicated and works WAY better (InSync, Luminello, Office Ally, uh, submission of paper claims). In process of switching to a new EMR/PM system and very glad about it. They've all got their downsides, but Athena was simply beyond the pale. Just look up their legal issues if you're wondering what I mean.

So guys listen: you have a partner called „Simbios Medical Health“. I don’t care what unnecessary company this is.These arrogant people of Simbios Medical Health are sending me weekly scam-emails, trying to get into my calendar.Check this situation out, please. You as Athena Helath provide the software solution for this company. They send me email, which I don’t like and I don’t accept this situation anymore. It’s going on since one year. Simbios Medical Health has literally NO option to contact.I am one step before sending in my German lawyer. For me he is one phone call away and he will cost me around 200€. He will cost your friend-company and maybe even YOU way more.infantile wannabe company’sBring up a solution or you will hear from me.

AthenaHealth is the worst place ever I called numerous times to have my portal deleted all the reps do is give you the run around. If you don’t want to be with a company or be affiliated with the portal or share your health info you should have the option to opt out. Athena holds you hostage, and all your information. You have that rite to delete or asked to be opt out! Who makes a software where your not able to opt yourself out? Then I was told contact the provider well he’s no longer In Practice he”s retired. I’m having anxiety behind this, thing people do for money, they could careless how the patients feel it’s not rite. This is the worst software ever made I have never see anything like this they have restricted the reps from assisting, all they say we don’t have access to assist you! This is observed. Stay away from AthenaHealth please this has been a nightmare. BoB this is wrong.

Can't access my medical record. Can't change the password. Can't get customer support for these issues.

For months they have been calling my business daily (10+ times per day). When our staff answers the phones it is silence or beeping. My business and employees rely on the phones to make their livelihood. I called in and left a voicemail as there is no way to speak with a live human. As a business, we have multiple lines for incoming calls and i want to make sure that none of them are being called. I really dislike posting negative reviews online but im hoping this way my concerns will be addressed rather than brushed off.

Frustrating downtimes and support ticket limbo. Billing dept. still needs to retain staff unlike previous discussions and promises. Expensive.

I have two different groups of doctors who both, UNFORTUNATELY, have AthenaHealth patient portals. Any IT/Webmaster contact/help is hidden behind a green curtain of secrecy. I have had nothing but trouble with both portals. - When I'm able to set a new password, it's not accepted 2 days later. - When I'm not able to log in and am told an email is being sent (to the same email address they're using for messages to me!), it's not received. - It took them ~3 months to get my new PCP included in their automated phone menu. Groups of doctors must love athenahealth; from the point of view of a user, they have the poorest IT/Webmaster contact/help I've ever encountered in many years of heavy computer use - at home and at work. As a Hewlett-Packard retiree their lack of concern about the users of their mediocre websites is appalling.

The EMR / PM aspect is cutting-edge but requires a significant mastery and retraining of staff in order to function at the most basic level. The are a few minor, but industry-standard features that athena lacks for no apparent reason. The sales team is slick when you meet them, but the customer service is a frustrating merry-go-round of support tickets and week-long response times. Not ideal for small practices, or if you have a modest budget. They take a piece of everything, even your clean claims. The data migration was also harder than expected.

AthenaHealth pushes every patient to their patient portal. However, the patient portal is severely lacking. I'm expecting test results that are now days delayed, and their messaging feature won't even allow a question without providing the doctor. The doctor I saw is not prior listed, and it will not allow an ad hoc entry, therefor will not process any message or query for help. It seems like they don't want to be bothered.Even further proof; when engaging the website chat for help, it forces a selection as a patient, then provides the portal URL and DISCONNECTS the chat! Nice! Clearly don't want to be bothered. If you have a choice, go elsewhere.

I've spent 5 hours trying to pay a ****. I have used multiple browsers (*******, ****** and Safari) and even a phone. None of them let me get past clicking "Sign In" on the Portal site. NOTHING happens after clicking. I called the Doctor's office and they refer me to Billing, which never answers. I have spent up to two hours holding and nobody ever picks up. This is insane. I just want to pay my **** with my *** debit card and cannot get anyone to take my **** payment. Hours and hours wasted on something that should take 2 minutes.

Athena's ************************* is absolutely horrid. Below are the issues which I have encountered over the last 6 years.1. Creating an account, only to find it gone from their records.2. Creating passwords which you know are correct, only to be told that they are wrong.3. Create responses to security questions, also to be told that the answers are wrong.4. Try to create new passwords which is never successful. 5. Test results not posted due to Athena format errors.6. Athena's platform previously served both the ******** and the *******. They have now thrown the patient portal to the side, and request that the patient return to the ******** for additional set up. Athena's ***** comes from the ********, not the *******.7. The "Helpful Suggestions" to set up do not work.8. As a *******, I have TWO ********* DOCTOR PRACTICES who use Athena, and ONE ***** ADDRESS. Therefore I cannot access Athena at all. Therefore I cannot access Athena at all.

Questionable business practices at best - especially where finances are concerned. Holds in their system on large payments that the practice takes in via credit cards. They try to blame it on ******* - when its actually their *** staff that needs to release the hold and customers are not told about the hold - nor is it indicated on our financial dashboards on the Athena software or on the patient's receipt. Management accepts no responsibility or offers no assistance, but definitely wants to know where their percentage of the payments are each month. Claim postings are often incorrect by their staff and you'll need to rely on your own office staff to catch them. At best, you'll get a half of an apology and a "we'll use this as an example to educate our team member" - who will likely make the same error again approximately a month or less later. We urge the Better Business Bureau to look into Athena's business practices to assist other medical practices, who like ourselves are trying to come back after *****.

Aggressive, threatening phrasing is present in billing emails. They go out of their way to beat you over the head with their charges - rather than providing a clear and welcoming path to paying them, it's a pre-emptive "Insurance was conducted correctly" and "This is your responsibility" in a manner that comes across as berating, or defending themselves against an accusation I have not made.'
