I reached out to GSRNE because my daughter’s former German shepherd was supposedly placed through them (or with their guidance) during a very painful family situation. My only goal was to find out where the dog ended up and to be able to give my daughter honest information and closure. The woman who returned my call was unexpectedly harsh and dismissive. She: Refused to provide even general reassurance about where the dog might be or what type of placement was made, stated that the person who surrendered the dog never actually brought her to their rescue, but would not share which organizations they referred him to, and suggested I simply lie to my daughter and “tell her the dog was adopted and is fine,” rather than supporting honest, age-appropriate communication. Given the already sensitive circumstances, this lack of empathy, transparency, and basic kindness was very upsetting. I expected a rescue to prioritize both animal welfare and clear, compassionate communication with families. Instead, I left the interaction feeling shut down and more worried, not less.
Update: Btw, it was Canine College/Bow Wow Resort that the dog got placed with in case anyone else is in a similar position in the future. Thanks for nothing, GSRNE.

Impossible to deal with. Have had multiple shepherds, fenced in yard, financially stable, take our dogs everywhere. Yet, no shepherd was 'right' for us. Three hour probing interview including our financial situation.

All volunteer... hardworking rescue providing excellent care and matching for every dog according to what the dog needs Generally require a fence as a added safety.... Not to say people without a fence are not good dog owners ! Also requires patience and time ! Each dog comes first and is placed by temperament, activity level needed , and dog skills needed to train a rescue dog

appears to be a pretty good scam they've got going . A couple of dog pics, a list of requirements that nobody could ever meet and the fund raising never stops. So the special people who "foster" the dogs get to have some pretty nice pets ,never have to consider giving them up because no one is good enough and other people pay all the bills. A slick tv preacher couldn't have done any better

Would love to adopt a dog from them but their fencing requirements are absurd: down to specifications of what type of fence, how high, how large of an area, etc. We live on a lake with a terraced back yard, so no, we're not getting a fence. Our last rescue dog did fine without a fence, and besides, with or without a fence we wouldn't leave the dog outside unsupervised. Since he died recently I decided to check back in with their website to see if things have changed and they haven't, so it's not even worth it to try contacting them to see if they're flexible: their website is pretty clear that they aren't.

This so-called organization, leads you on to believe that they have pets for afoption.Even after you have a home inspection done by their group, and it's has been approved, the process continues on to be subjected to the approval of who is fostering the pets exactly. So I believe it has been a completely unfair process to someone who is eager to adopt an animal who needs a second chance. If you get "testy" on the phone because you believe you have discrimanted against in the screening process, they hang up on you. Then you received notification that they do not have a pet who matches your criteria.NOT AN ORGANIZATION I WOULD MONEY DONATE MY TOO, EVER!
