My wife always wanted to donate after her death. And there was someone hanging around for the right moment to talk to me about it in the emergency room. But on the phone they talked about certain things like skin and bone etc. I asked where they would get the bone from and was initially told they get it from the arms. My wife's family is very old school and didn't really approve of organ donation. So I was trying my hardest to balance everything out for all involved.
1. My wife's wishes.
2. Her family's
In any case my wife never cared for long sleeve shirts and I wanted her viewing to look as natural as possible for her family's sake. Especially her elderly mother who is not in the best of health. So despite the conversation on the phone supposedly being recorded. And myself telling them multiple times not to take the bone from her arms as it would necessitate us dressing her in long sleeves to cover it up. Imagine my surprise when the funeral home told me I would need to bring in a long sleeve shirt. Yes they took the bone from her arms anyways.
To say I'm disappointed in them would be an understatement.

Gift of life Michigan never got the medical examiners consent to remove our loved one’s organs therefore left our family with an undetermined autopsy of our 32 year old loved one. They are vultures and will do whatever it takes to get your loved one’s organs. Take the heart off your license!!!

Be careful when you sign up on your drivers license to be a donor. Gift of life will strip you or your loved one with anything they want, (and someone told us they then sell it! Can someone confirm this fact?) I don’t think people understand what they are signing themselves up for when they check the box on the drivers license. Fortunately we had a kind person warn us in time. Don’t think for a minute that they will just take organs.

They treated my son like a pice of meat, they were nothing but vultures.
After I arrived at the hospital I was approached within 5 minutes in my son's room wanting me to donate ( he was not a doner on his license )I told them to leave and had to ask 5 time to leave. They then followed my other 4 kids around the hospital, it was so bad I had to send my kids away so they would not be bothered. ( Mind you they are young kids who couldn't be with their brother while he lay their dying) I was approached another 4 times by different people from G.O.L. I told them to not contact me that I would contact them when we were ready. It should have stoped then, BUT NO 20 mins before telling my family my son was going to die I was called again by G.O.L. the story goes on but I will stop there. THE WAY GIFT OF LIFE DOES THINGS NEEDS TO CHANGE! I understand that their are people who desperately need this gifts ( I know we at one point we're one of those people) But I was in desperate need of my son, and my other kids needed their brother. Because of the way we were treated and the amount of disrespect for my whole family I will no longer be a organ donor. GIFT OF LIFE change how you do things it is not right.

The people here were so kind and caring. They honored my brother's wishes. They made an emotional event less difficult.

I am beyond mad I am so livid the way this place treated my poor wife. My wife passed away on December 18th this year. And they were to take my wife to Ann arbor and then to the funeral home. Four days later on December 22nd I called to inquire. They told me they didn't have any one their by that name. I said where the hell is she. Come to find out she was not a viable candidate for donating, and nobody called me to tell me anything. Gift of Life to the hospital. So my wife laid there in the hospital morgue for 4 days. Trust me this is not over, someone has alot of explaining to do. Someone is supposed to contact me after the New Year. We shall see. Trust me this is not over.

Absolutely zero class.Disrespect wishes of families when ask not to harvest organs. The values of families and their wishes should out weigh any law. Complete lack of empathy. Complete lack understanding for grieving people. I question the moral high ground your vampires stand on.And don't be fooled, the will respond to the review and say they do their best to honor family wish. But that is a complete lie. After being told no once. They will presist and show zero empathy in the process. Keep your lousy excuse to your self. Instead open your ears and heart and simply respect the wishes of families.

The gift of misunderstanding should be they're name. From the time the vulture introduced himself all we were told was lies and how sorry they were. And They must of misunderstood what "they" told us. I never heard I am sorry so many times in a conversation in my 63 years of life. I would rather let my dog eat the remaines of my loved one then too let these people have anything to do with them!! I think that someone needs to investigate they're practices.

I'd like to say thank you to gift of life for sorting out my previous issue. I had gotten a previous letter/slip for some other thing with the gift of life logo and jumped to conclusions about a separate letter as I don't donate often but lately it has been towards several losses in the family. I also may not have liked being asked hours after a passing about donations but I understand there isn't much time in these situations. A small light hearted suggestion is to update your waiting list music on the phone, it's unsettling. Thank you for handling my grievances well. It's been a difficult year.

Please reconsider the way you donate organs. This is not the only way. There are ways you can donate and still have family wishes considered.
