Great gym. good equipment, large space. could have some more niche machines (like a hack squat or belted hip thrust machine). and it gets way to crowded around new years and in the evenings, could make more workout rooms in the massive building. Also there should be more than one entrance

I love the gym but the fitness classes run over so consistently that if I’m on a time crunch after they’re in one of the rooms, I lose 10-20 mins of a workout so make sure to check the schedule if you’re on a schedule.** edit - it’s now been thirty mins and it’s the instructor in the studio alone who won’t open the door and let members in.I’ve now missed my entire workout and she’s sitting on the floor texting lol.

Good equipment. Too crowded. Rude staff, don’t greet or acknowledge entrants

My true rating is a 3.5 but I checked the 4 since it's the best gym that UofM has to offer regular students which isn't saying much. I'm not using any of the sport specific or athletic training complexes in comparison. The IM is located attached to the Kliff Keen center. It has a beautiful old school facade and this cool concrete staircase leading to big double wooden doors. Once you walk in, there is a big check in lobby. You scan your card and continue in. If you turn left, you walk into a big room with high ceilings filled with cardio eqpt including treadmills, ehlipticals and some bikes. There are also a lot of weight machines that cover just about every body part. And literally just one or two machines at the most per body part. There is also a dumbbell area with a few benches. On the other side of the building is the more typical weight room set up. 3-4 bench presses, incline bench, a more robust dumbbell setup and lots of power racks for squats and dead's. There's 2 leg press machines as well as a 2-3 cable set ups for arms and finishing movements. One of the crazy things is that if the benches are being used (usually by one person) all the other people form this line waiting for their turn. Same with the benches for the dumbbell area. I tell others to partner up on the benches to make it go by faster, they'll have a spotter and maybe meet a new friend. There is also 3 racquetball courts, a functional room for abs/core, and classes for group workouts. It's lacking in many many ways but unfortunately it's the best on the campus out of the 3 gyms. Right, 60,000 students w 3 gyms!!!!!! It's got what it takes but you have to stay motivated knowing it's always going to be some sort of hassle with the lack of eqpt.

I had a great time here! The equipment is in great shape and there's so much to do here (cardio, strength training, basketball, track, racquetball, etc.) and it's FREE for Michigan students! It's a bit of a walk for me BUT I'm not fazed by that. Will that change in the winter once I encounter snow? Possibly...

the battles that are fought over the two (2) multipurpose rooms are insane and the queue for the racquetball courts brings out the worst in people

Great facility. I wish the UM Rec Sports app functioned better. I've spent as much as 15 mins trying to just get the app to work for signing in.

The Building itself is nice, but the equipment is almost always out of order and the student staff that works there is rather rude.

The building is huge and offers a lot of workout options. The reason I am not giving 5 stars is due to lack of maintenance for the cardio machines. For example, the rowing machines haven't been working properly for the past 6 months and no maintenance happened to them.

There are plenty of options for different workout equipment as well as basketball courts if you like to hoop. Often, you will find it to be very busy, especially in the mornings, but later at night, especially near closing time, it's far more free.

Big place, plenty of room, but bring a chair if you're there for club volleyball or any other intramural sport. Park (free) around the back of the building near the baseball field. Enter through the front doors. Long walk on a cold or wet day.

I pay for membership and I showed up today. No warning or email they had closed down the basketball courts before I arrived due to individuals lowering their masks while playing basketball. Extremely unfair to close down the basketball court for everyone due to several individuals. Also no warning messes up people's schedules.
