The previous owners of Lapeer Road Market made sure to know the names of your family and your purchases and daily lottery.They took great care to ensure that our community of Lapeer Heights felt well taken care of and grew a strong relationship with our neighborhood over the years.The new manager has lauded himself to be a new community member who cares about us and wants to get to know everyone.Unfortunately, I feel disappointed and disheartened at the level of disrespect, and passive-aggressive and also intimidating behavior of this new "manager" (intimidating meaning you act as if colored people are going to steal from you)I've gone into this establishment quite frequently and was treated very well by the additional employees.However, I was purchasing one can of tea and looking for my wallet.I had two cans of Kickstart mtn dew that I placed on the counter at which point this man asked me point blank if I stole those two items off of his shelf.No matter that I often spend 100 or more when shop there, and am a lady.As a black woman I am disgusted by the question but moreover the need to ask it on his part.At this very moment two police officers were already present because this guy decided that two small boys, that did not appear to be more than 13 years old, had attempted to take bread and milk from his store, and he felt the police needed to be involved.Let me explain for this man what compassion to a new neighborhood and being human in general would entail.1. Give the boys or children a stern talking to and instead of calling police, set up a fund for the people that need it from your store.Whomever has the audacity to hurt a child's future because they are hungry is not a kind or caring human.2. If you have already accused 2 black Boys of stealing why do you then feel the deep seated need to question a black lady?3. Racism can have many meanings and many forms of expression.I also understand that perception is everything, so if I see a woman digging through her purse my first thought would not be " did she steal it?" And even if you did think itsaying it out Loud to my face was a grave verbal mistake.You have now, painted yourself as a racist with no help whatsoever from me.In closing, I would say that this man, must have experienced something so negative it caused him to think differently about certain people and causes him to feel a strong sense of anxiety when he is running the store.Someone who constantly calls police due to uncertainty or fear of "colored peopleshould ABSOLUTELY NEVER EVER WORK BEHIND A REGISTER IN A LIQUOR STORE.And please you must stop posting you care about this community because the previous owners did care about us and they never once had to say it out loud. WE know the difference between real and fake in Lapeer Heights.Those boys did not deserve to lose their future lives because they needed/ wanted milk and food. This manager and anyone else who hems up children is deplorable.Flint is about understanding others and caring about others and truly it would take 25 years for you to understand how this community works.You simply have not put the time in and your preconceived notions and assumptions have caused more harm and offense than not.I'm shocked the previous owners chose the way they did, but then, that's what free speech is for and I pray my words offer solace in knowing what you need to fix and change about yourself and your business practices.Loreal Mason

I Always enjoy stopping in :) they truly go above and beyond for their customers, very very friendly and will order anything if you ask/request it. The best customer service in this city! Always clean and welcoming !! I would give them 100 stars if I could !! If your in Burton area, Make sure to stop in !!

This place is great since the new ownership! I never liked stopping in before. My husband kept swearing it's improved a lot and I stopped in today and it has! They even had a crown tasting shot station when I stopped in today! They are great and open to suggestions and happy to stock whatever you need. Keep up the great work guys!

This is a great store. Owner and employees are always friendly and ask if there’s anything me or my wife would like him to order that he doesn’t stock. My wife had a certain flavored hard cider she wanted and when requested he had it in stock within days. Refreshing to still see a place where the ownership takes care of the customer so well.

Changing my review- New owners brought down the business. Used to be great.UPDATE: Wow, I tried to reach out to the owner and NO RESPONSE. So ridiculous that they say to reach out and I leave multiple messages and NOTHING. The manager there is horrible and seems like a thief and the owner is oblivious. Clearly this must be a third party responding to the reviews.Lastly, the review below about the bottle returns from Chuck are SPOT ON. This HAS to be illegal and people should contact the Attorney General's office ASAP. I screenshot their response because what they said is illegal. The previous owners would take tons of bottles all the time so "space" is not the issue. Figure it out or don't be in business.

Horrible hours and will not do bottle returns. This is a response to their lame response. You're violating the Michigan bottle law, and I'll be reporting it to the Department of Treasury Tuesday. This isn't about space or covid, if you were concerned with covid you'd have a mask policy instead of I'll only take back 10 of the 12 cans I sold you policy.
