Caring Animal Hospital is the best vet I have taken my dog to, hands down. There is no other vet I would trust with my pet. Their welcome and kind smiles are reassuring and they provide continued updates regarding the status of your pet during procedures.

A few weeks I (along with my mother and aunt) brought my brother's Boxer, Taz, here because he was sick and not himself at all. We went to this hospital because our vet did not have availability. Samantha G. checked our Taz out and ordered blood work and X-Rays. After a lengthy wait, Samantha brought the X-Ray results.Samantha was showing the X-Rays to my mother and explaining what they showed. That's fine, but what she was explaining sounded like she was teaching a Biology class instead of pointing out any actual problems. There were a lot of "it could be this, but we can't tell for sure" comments throughout her X-Ray analysis.I get that the X-Rays didn't have conclusive evidence, but we ended up paying over $400 for them. Samantha said Taz was very sick and needed to get emergency surgery. I pointed out that it seems odd to order surgery without being sure what's wrong with Taz. She said they would do an emergency ultrasound at MSU and it would cost $850 for that. Then the surgery would cost between $8,000-$12,000. I wanted a second opinion despite the insistance that Taz needed to go immediately. I wanted to get Taz out of there and was now being told that he should spend the night at the hospital so he can get fluids. This despite no one actually stays over night. They believe a sick dog should spend the night in a strange place with no one there instead of going home with someone close to them? I was refused medicine that could have helped him because it was against what Samantha advised. This hospital did not want responsibility for anything that happened to Taz afterwards and made me sign a document in order to get him out of there. After all of this, I was charged almost $800 for all of their tests. I paid and got out of there. $800 for absolutely nothing. I scheduled an appointment at another vet and they also worked on X-Rays. They took a look at Caring Animal Hospitals also. First set didn't show much so they did another set towards the lungs. They did not charge for the second set. Around the lungs showed signs of Pneumonia. We were given three prescriptions and the office said they'd check in the next day. $425 spent for all of this.Three days later, Taz showed massive improvement. A couple more days and he's all the way back to normal and happy as can be. No surgery. This dog was almost sent to MSU for surgery because of Caring Animal Hospital. He could have passed during this surgery. I still can't believe it. I hope this hospital enjoyed taking our money, but also hope they are more careful giving out an animal's diagnosis. Maybe if an X-Ray isn't showing anything try doing another next time. Instead you tried passing it off to MSU so they could charge thousands on something that was right in front of you. And not giving medicine to a dog because I wanted to take him home is absolutely cruel. It makes me sick how fast a no liability document was put in front of me.After all of this, I am just happy that Taz is all good now. I hope this story is beneficial for people looking for a vet.

Dr. Samantha Gruenwald is just wonderful. She uses a fear free approach which suits my little very fearful Brittany spaniel Easton very well. And my social Coonhound Mocha still enjoyed the peanut butter while getting her vaccines too!! Dr. Gruenwald also specializes in small exotics like rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters.

I brought my hamster here for a health concern -- it can be a bit tricky to find a good exotic vet, but the staff here are very knowledgeable and compassionate. They took the extra time to explain all my treatment options and help me find the best one for my hamster while keeping my budget in mind. You can tell they truly care about the animals here.

My dog had an ear infection. I had some left over ear drops from before.. used them and ear infection was clearing up. I brought the empty bottle to show them. They gave me a different kind of drops. Ear infection was then in fact, getting worse.I called them up.. they wouldn’t send me a new Rx without coming back in again for another exam and exam fee.. And also, the want to start my dog on allergy meds because they say her ear infection is “secondary to itching” due to allergies.. so.. just my honest review.. my dog does not have allergies or itching.

I can't speak highly enough of Caring Animal Hospital (CAH) and each and every one of their staff members! They are all caring, professional and dedicated. Our Cocker Spaniel is being treated for his allergies and subsequent ear infections. Drs. Steele and Cotter took the time to investigate the best treatment plan for him, researching and consulting with MSU, dermatologists, as well as others. They also took whatever time necessary to address each area of concern we have raised.Furthermore with his liver values increasing, due to the need for Prednisone to ease the impact of his allergies, they went above and beyond to find a way to help lower those values. Today's blood test results show the success of their fruits of labor with a very significant drop in his values. Not many places would take the amount of time neccessary to thoroughly research, or respond to each question raised. I have never seen such caring, invested, professional staff. And if you're wondering what our Cocker feels about going to CAH...he simply loves seeing everyone!
