It's definitely your old-time general store in its setup continued into the modern day. Love the selection of meats and cheeses, never a disappointment when I want to try out something new or different. They always have specials going on that are hand written on the cooler door behind the counter. Even letting you get a tasting of what they are offering for that day.
If it's your first time checking this place out. There are a couple of printouts for their meats and cheeses, respectively, sitting in pockets on the support pole by the counter. Thumbing through it, you will be amazed at all they offer. Not just local or domestic but regional from around the world.
This is the only place I get my Parmigiano or Parmigiano Reggiano from. You can even see that the wheel they cut it from has the required stippling on the rind so that you know it's authentic.

Shopping on a Gaga and Tyler's Surprise Adventure Day. We had intended to be at the outdoor shops of the Christmas Marketplace but the weather was very cold and snowing. With every adventure we have learned to pivot when find our adventure day weather not being cooperative. So indoors we went and the many stores of Eastern Market were our first choice. Devries & Co never disappoint, the vast selection of gifts that we were able to find more than fill stockings and other gift items. Of course we had to buy some cheese as well. We had a wonderful time and plan to return for a cheese tasting to celebrate another upcoming birthday, after all, it isn't every day that great Papa will celebrate his 94th birthday. Since Tyler enjoys cooking lessons on his weekends at my house, we start by choosing recipes, why not learn to shop for those ingredients together. He thinks that this is all fun but what he doesn't realize is this is my way of raising a future man who is prepared to cook and entertain his friends and family members. He can bake, cook, and set a table properly, he even has learned which pieces of china, silverware and glassware that is to be used with each part of the meal. We can't wait for our next adventure day, next month is Valentines dinner, he has already asked to return to Devries & Co for gifts and cheeses that will be used for that meal.

The selection of artisan and gourmet products is vast. The quality is fantastic! Unfortunately, I deducted a star because I'm new to the area, been here 3 times, and 2 out of those 3 times I was served by the same individual behind the cheese counter who was obviously not having a pleasant day and poured that frustration into her service with a less than welcoming tone and demeanor. Also, with such a vast selection of cheese you'd imagine these cheese mongers would have some sort of recommendation/personal favs, but whenever I ask for a suggestion it's a, "we have a lot of cheese" and it's left at that. đ¤ˇââď¸ I'd be willing to try anything- I can't just guess though.

I was able to find a product my daughter had been wanting to try. Double Cream so perfect! The store reminded me of the stores in the area I grew up in then I seen it was 3 levels! With old elevator I thought was for show until I seen someone step off of it. The samples were amazing the shops had an eclectic variety of items for reasonable prices. This is the place you find the gift that suites one person perfectly. Check this blast from yhe past that is full of life now!

Cute shop, horrible experience. Yesterday, a staff member accused me of stealing, said she saw me place store items in my hulken bag. I said I did not, she insisted she saw me do it. I offered for her to look through my bag, where she poked around and accused me of stealing some kettle chips that I had left over from lunch at Tocororo!
Donât know why she wanted to âget meâ so bad. Uncomfortable and offensive experience. It was my sisters birthday and we were having a day out. I spoke to the manager (Megan) who basically doubled down and recited a lame âsorry if she was rude but this is how it is because we have a lot of theft in the store and she thought you were stealingâ. She then pointed me to 1 of the 200 various printer-paper signs hanging up that said âuse in-store baskets while you shopâ. I assured her that I DID NOT put any items in my personal bag. All I had in hand was $4 teriyaki sauce and $3 horseradish!
To Megan the Manager: The issue is not whether I used an in store basket (other shoppers werenât using a basket either, I would have happily used one if I knew the policy)- itâs that a staff member blatantly insisted that she saw me stealing, when I obviously did not. And you doubled down.
The only highlight was the kind woman at the cash register who was empathetic about the situation. Feels like if you arenât a middle age white woman you will be accused of stealingâŚbut thatâs just my experience.

A great little grocery store with local brands, as well as harder to find imported products. Ask to ride in the 120 year old elevator!

Visited this past Tuesday, been shopping here for years, stunned by the rude and dismissive person at the cheese counter. I returned my basket to the stack of baskets and walked out, I wonât be back. The staff was always pleasant and professional in previous visits, maybe it is a new staff.
