- A completely unprofessional company.... I waited for an hour and a half in line. The employees talk to the customers about minor matters and not related to the business (such as how is Chicago, how is the weather in MIAMI ..... etc) and they didnt care about the line. picture attached for the worst line i ever seen in my life.-The employees talk among themselves.- The employees are not qualified because they ask each other about every step in their system. - --- The cost of the car I rented was doubled when i reached their, and 7 types of charges were added that were not mentioned in the reservation.FINALY I DONT RECOMMAND THIS UN PROFESSIONAL COMPANY TO ANYONE , HERTZ MUCH MUCH BETTER.

Avoid at all costs. First I had to wait one hour to get the car when I was the only person in line and the excuse was that the computers kept shutting down, while at Avis the very next station over (Avis and Payless are the same company sharing the counter) they got 2 bus full of people through while I had to wait, but the wrost thing happen after I returned the car.It is due diligence to check the car before driving off, and I did so. I was there for a work trip and the only person in the car.A week after I returned the car, I got a letter that they were charging me $125 for light spills in the car, on the back seat. I asked for proof and they sent me a few pictures of spills in the back seat and on light grey color seats. The car I used had black seat and black interior!!!When confronted and asked if they could do a video showing the car with the magical exchanged grey seat, they refused to do so saying that they offered enough proof.I don’t know what to say. I felt robbed. Please make it an habit to make your own recording video of the inside of the car since this apparently is the new scam.

Payless rental car was the cheapest rental company that I could find for the location and length of time that I needed. The staff was friendly and efficient and the whole process was straightforward and easy. I returned the vehicle in the same condition that I received it & with a full tank of gas and after a swift check-in, I was on my way.

Don’t rent from this place. Half an hour to get one car. Then you get the wrong car. Return it, you will get a letter in the email charging 450 for “heavy soil” despite the fact we only used the car near East lansing. This is the first time ever we get overcharged after we returned the car. Stay away, you are not saving yourself money.

I've been in line 45 minutes to pick up my prepaid rental card and there are still 4 people ahead of me. Ridiculous customer service. Never again!

I rarely go out of my way to leave negative reviews since I understand that things happen and I might’ve just caught someone on an off day, but my experience here was absolutely miserable and there is no excuse for it. Payless apparently has TWO full-time employees that run this counter and nobody else. Not two at a time, just two total. This seems extremely unsafe and God forbid either of them ever gets sick while the other is out of town. We waited for a half hour while one was on her lunch on what I’m assuming was the other person’s day off. There was nobody at the counter during this time and this was not communicated to us until after she came back. The employee was very sweet and helpful, but customer service reps I spoke to on the phone were extremely rude. It was NOT worth the money saved over other companies.

Great customer service, the young lady Makitta ( not sure if that’s the correct spelling ) that assisted me with the pick up was awesome. Very helpful and her customer service skills were a 10/10. Very smooth and fast pick up and drop off!

The price on the Hopper app was nowhere close to what the actual price ended up being. It was $100 more than what was shown on the app. And I only had this car for 2 days. All those fees, for what? Incredibly dishonest! What a rip off!

If you use this service and I stress IF! DO NOT USE Booking.com; this service is a scam looking for victims. They are located in the UK, and are unanswerable to any complaints. I paid for a Payless car rental through Booking.com, I was charged $315.00 on my debit card, the site stated that if I cancelled, my money would be refunded, I also added the $24,00 insurance.I took an Uber ($70.00) to the airport to pick up the car and was told an extra $200.00 deposit was required, (this was not mentioned on the website), but I agreed and was told it must be done with a credit card; I only have a debit card, and so was forced to cancel and take another Uber ($70.00) back home. I contacted Payless car rentals and was told since the car was rented through Booking.com, it was out of their hands and that I should contact Booking. After multiple attempts and calling every listed number, I was only able to chat online and was told I was not eligible for a refund because I cancelled after my "pickup" time!! My $24.00 insurance payment was refunded and THAT'S IT! Once again, DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!!!!

My schedule was a little tight for my trip in Detroit and thankfully The pick up and drop off process was super smooth and confusion free with Payless. The front desk staff was also very friendly and helpful. The rate here is comparative low. Overall, I had a good experience with this car rental company.

Hate Hate Hate this car rental business. Booked through Expedia, Payless decided to change locations 2 weeks prior so no one was trained on system. They charged me TWICE and OVER what Expedia did. Asked for carseats, they didn't have them. Had to abandon my OWN carseats in rentsl and buy NEW ones when got home.Customer service is a nightmare.

Very unsatisfacted. I rented a vehicle July 7 returned the vehicle July 8. No one was there to check the vehicle in. I called Payless to let the person know that there was no one there checking cars in and they stated that I was going to be OK. July 11 I received an email from my credit card company showing Payless trying to pull out $600 and it was declined. I called and spoke to someone over the phone. They stated it was going to be taken care of and it still was not. I left my job to go up to the rental place. As I was walking through the rental lot, I noticed that the car was still in the same spot where I dropped it off at on July 8. I went inside spoke to a very nice lady behind the counter. Her name was Makitta she was very nice. I asked her to go outside to the lot and she noticed that the car was there and she handled it and cash me out. Very DISSATISFIED. They rather charge ppl instead of making sure that the car has been returned. They don’t even get one star

Be sure you find someone to verify your drop off. They told us to just drop it with the keys in, and then I was charged for an extra day despite having returned it hours before my deadline. Get signatures. Check your charges. Or be safe and just go someplace else.
