A Truly Restorative Experience at POST DETROIT
There are places you visit, and then there are places that stay with you. POST DETROIT is the latter.
Life moves fast. So fast, in fact, that sometimes the things we love most—the hobbies that ground us, the quiet rituals that restore us, the simple joys—get left behind in the rush of it all. That had become my story for far too long. Weekends blurred into productivity marathons, the kind filled with errands and catch-up, not calm or creativity. But something shifted. I decided to reclaim my time, if only for a day. To do something not because I had to, but because I wanted to.
I chose POST DETROIT.
From the moment I stepped inside, it felt like walking into a different rhythm of life. Warm, soft light filtered through the space. The air carried the gentle blend of freshly brewed coffee and handcrafted candles. Time felt like it slowed to a whisper. Every corner of the store had been curated with care—shelves lined with essential oils, beautifully framed art, thoughtfully made clothing, candles, books, greeting cards, stickers, and the kind of gifts you don’t find just anywhere. It’s the kind of shop that invites you to wander, to linger, to exhale.
Before my workshop, I stopped at the adorable coffee shop nestled inside POST. I ordered a smooth, rich pour-over coffee and paired it with a buckwheat chocolate chip cookie from Sister Pie. That first bite was like a warm hug. The cookie was earthy, slightly nutty, and just sweet enough—unlike anything I’ve had before. That moment, seated with my coffee and cookie, was my soft reentry into a day that felt entirely for me.
I had signed up for a calligraphy class, taught by the incredibly talented and kind Nicole from Upstairs Neighbor. And it was everything I didn’t know I needed. Nicole’s energy was calming, intentional, and encouraging—she created a space not just for learning but for truly being. It wasn’t about perfecting each letter. It was about slowing down, noticing the details, and reconnecting with the joy of making something by hand.
Each pen stroke became a breath. Each curve of the ink felt like a return to myself. The world outside disappeared for a little while, and I was fully immersed—in the rhythm, the stillness, the creativity. I didn’t realize how deeply I missed that feeling.
What POST DETROIT gave me that day was more than just a skill or a class—it was a moment of peace, a reconnection with joy, and a reminder that we’re allowed to take up space in our own lives for the things we love. That it’s okay to pause. To breathe. To create.
And perhaps the most beautiful part of POST is that it welcomes everyone. It’s inclusive, warm, and LGBTQ+ friendly—a place where you feel like you belong, no matter who you are. There’s no pressure here, only possibility. It’s a space that gently says: you’re safe here. You matter. Let’s create something beautiful.
So, if you’re looking for more than a shopping stop, more than a class—if you’re looking for a sanctuary in the city where you can slow down, savor something small, and leave feeling better than when you arrived—POST DETROIT is waiting for you.
This person was me today.
And if I can offer one small reminder: always take time for yourself. Do the things that light you up. You’re worth it.

Mother’s day gift from my daughter.
I was so impressed that a place like this existed. Made pressed flower design which we received a frame to place our finished work. The wonderful people that work here are like old friends by the time you finish and leave. I was so happy and loved being able to be crafty as I don’t think of myself that way. I will surely be going back!!!!

I just learned a lifelong craft, printing flowers on fabric, in 2 delightful hours. The instructors were so well prepared, encouraging and insightful. What a wonderful addition to a wonderful craft store, in which 90 percent of the suppliers are women, many local.
