Full of idiotic employees and an even dumber manager. Waited for a refund for over 4 weeks. Communication was severely lacking and when it came down to admitting fault they still tried to place the blame on us. I'll go out of my way not to deal with this location ever again.

In the over 20 years of dealing with U-Haul in several states from Georgia, Washington, DC, and Maryland--I have never experienced such incompetence. I am writing to express my complete and utter dissatisfaction with this U-Haul facility from two separate incidences that resulted in incompetence by the General Manager and his staff over a two year period.2024 - I was set to move my belongings into a storage unit on January 15, 2024. I had completed the online process, which included electronically signing a contract, uploading my ID and selfie into the system, and paying the first month's rent. Upon arrival at the facility, my code did not work and my access was denied. My moving helpers were paid by the hour and after several unsuccessful attempts, I went inside the store. The General Manager was present. He reviewed my account and determined that somehow "a maintenance staff person" had cleared out my unit after I completed the online process on January 13, 2024 so it was listed as a "move out" instead of "move in". The General Manager then proceeds to ask for my emergency contact again so that he could reverse what was apparently done. It's funny, I never received a move out email from U-Haul after this so-called error had taken place. This is not my first encounter dealing with this level of incompetence by the General Manager.2022 - In December 2022, I moved out of an apartment and had stored my belongings in a U-Box for a couple weeks until my new apartment was ready. I was preparing to travel for the Christmas holidays and wanted to store a few items ahead of my travel. Upon arrival at the facility, I learn that my U-Box could not be located. It took nearly two hours to discover that the staff left my U-Box outside and by that time, it was arctic weather, so my lock was frozen. It had to be cut open. These idiots left my U-Box outside, unsecured in the arctic cold climate for several weeks. I figured out that they left it outside where I packed it.In the over 20 years of dealing with U-Haul in several states from Georgia, Washington, DC, and Maryland--I have never experienced such incompetence. And while they are willing to offer a free month and an apology, it just doesn't make up for the failure to do business in the manner that U-Haul should be operating as a national business.I don't believe for one minute that a maintenance staff made that sort of error with a legal contract. Not one minute. The General Manager is simply in over his head. It is clear that he does not know how to operate this facility. The unfortunate circumstance is that Detroit city proper doesn't have the level of nationally known businesses in the city. This facility is one of two in the city. Detroit city proper could use some good ole competition in the storage facility marketplace. I would love to see national brands such as Public Storage, Extra Space Storage and Cube Smart enter the Detroit city proper market (not the metro because those brands have locations in the suburbs). Detroit city has the infrastructure and the growing population for there to be fair competition and better offerings. This is unacceptable.2 stars (and not 1 star) only because I've had great experiences with U-Haul locations in other states without any issues that I can recall.

Both times I've visited this location I've dealt with someone specific who is the exact reason I won't return. While I don't have his name, I'm sure this isn't the first notice they've had about his person.There's a gentlemen who I generally see in the yard, moving vehicles and such, and has the absolute worst attitude. So bad that he has yelled (not exaggerating) at me on both visits. The first visit I chalked it up to having a bad day and gave him the benefit of the doubt. This trip, seeing as I received the exact same treatment from him, now has become a pattern of abuse from this employee. In typical bully fashion, once I was clear to him that I wasn't accepting of that behavior he immediately crumbled and lost his poor attitude.I treat others how I would like to be treated but I did not receive that from this employee. Specifically because of him I will go out of my way and pay extra money to a further location just so I don't have to deal with him again.

The climate controlled storage is very clean and secure. The rental trucks are very well maintained and newer models. The entire operation is overseen by a level headed and very knowledgeable owner that is almost always present. They do truck rentals and self storage better than anyone else around.

I never write a review, but this place deserves this review. This was the absolute WORSE experience I’ve had at a U-Haul ever. The guy with long hair that has a badge saying owner on it was horrible! DO NOT COME HERE. First off he was dealing with me then stopped working with me to argue with another customer then had an attitude about where I parked my car while I was being nice saying it’s my first time at this location. Then gave me a truck that was damaged and 15 miles to empty when he said it has a quarter tank. To top it all off he charged me extra for truck being dirty when it was swept clean I used to move couple fridges, RUDE AND HORRIBLE SERVICE DO NOT COME HERE! believe his name was jarod.

This is probably the BIGGEST and WORST Uhaul in Detroit. If you're looking for SIZE and MANAGEMENT LOCKED UNITS and RANDOM NO ACCESSES and MANAGEMENT UNAVAILABLE this is your place!

I normally don’t write reviews but this was a stressful situation. The workers were RUDE and UNHELPFUL!! Do not go here! Poor communication. We reserved a van and we went there and Jarod told us that we could only pay with a credit card for the van when the website ACCEPTED OUR DEBIT CARD for the reservation. So, instead of telling us that we could use debit card for anything 10” box truck and above, he gave us attitude and was super unprofessional and rude. He works for U-Haul and he’s not even trying to HELP or sell us any of their products lol. Never coming back here again

This place is slow, unorganized, very unprofessional to deal with.I work for U-Haul this is probably one of the WORST locations to do business with U-Haul at.As an employee I urge you to pick a different location.

Went in for propane refill, staff seemed annoyed they had to do thier job. Stood outside for almost 10 minutes. Someone else finally came over and filled it up. Then stared at me when i asked if they had change. Sorry you had to to your job.
