So, this store is stealing from its customers, and when you politely try to explain that their system was messed up, they'll tell you to shut up and wait. How many others didn't catch the system error, how long has this been happening? And what has made the old lady hate her job so much?
The old lady at the customer service desk needs a bit of assistance with learning customer service skills, and maybe a toddler to help her learn her numbers.
Chicken .99 per pound
Package showed full price of 4.1 pounds at 1.99 per pound. When she rang it up, I mentioned it was incorrect. It rang up as 8.2 pounds at .99 per pound. Effectively the same as full price.
Instead of looking at the 6 foot sign in the window to verify, she went to get an ad. As she was skimming though the ad, I mentioned it was on the front page. She kept skimming. I mentioned again, it was under her thumb on the front page. She tells me that it rang up correctly, just the label was wrong. It rang up 8.2 pounds at .99 cents per pound. She was adamant that it was correctly ringing up.
As she called who she referred to as the idiot in the back, I told my wife that it isn't 8 pounds in the package, at which time she held up her finger and began to shake it at me, as if to tell me to be quiet. With well over 2 decades in public service,
I've dealt with rude, more often that you'd hope. I asked her if she had a scale on her register, she told me to just wait until the guy got up there to tell me how it was right. I asked her politely if she could humor me, and weigh it to show me that it is 8.2 pounds, like she was going to charge me for. She finally after sighing and telling me that the system was right, weighed it. Again, like on the actual label, it weighed 4.1 pounds.
I tried patiently to tell her while she was complaining to another woman (who you could see was getting uncomfortable with the old ladies attitude) that the label weight is right, but it's ringing up at twice the weight, and she told me to stop talking and wait.
I was done at this point. I was ready to leave the entire order and go elsewhere. My wife remained to pay for the other items, and I am not sure if it was senility or arrogance that caused the old lady to complain about the guy that just left, while my wife was standing right there. Stating that I cussed her out before storming out of the store, my wife politely corrected her story before paying and leaving the store.
We won't return. The store will stay open and never notice it. But theft and hostile treatment is unacceptable.
