I’m gonna be honest, SoR was great for the first…year or so?Upon ownership change, all of our “gigs” were delayed far more than I’d deem acceptable, even for “the usual delays that are present in the show business” as described by the new owner.I was in the Houseband, and in a class for one of my favourite bands of all time. At my last show with them, HouseBand’s set was cut, and we were forced to do a “staff vs students” thing, which at the time, no one enjoyed. My class however, one that I had poured my SOUL into, was cut more than halfway, due to the owners inability to properly maintaining any sort of time restraints on the other bands. Some bands went WELL over their allotted time, and caused my last show to be a complete nightmare.Shortly after, my mother was PESTERED for a review, that she was told would go to corporate, I believe. She left a negative review, as she was upset with the show, and Chris (the owner) begged her to change it, and “offered” to cancel our subscription/membership, upon my mothers refusal.I had no intentions on leaving this disaster of a program, but my mother is a VERY busy woman, and didn’t see his email.Turns out, his reviewing software only publishes the highest reviews, and the low ones can be hand picked by him, and sure enough, I bet none of the bad ones are published (not google reviews)Shortly after, my mother called me to her room, crying her eyes out, to inform me I got kicked out of SoR, despite her telling Chris that she does not want to cancel the membership, as I (her son) was having fun, and learning a lot.I was completely devastated, and had to spend the next half a year searching for a new place to practice music. On top of all this, he is making very false statements (in the review below mine) about “verbal abuse”The reason the member below me was kicked out, was because they did the old “leave a bad review and get kicked out method”Please, take my advice, and do this method, or just go anywhere else. The staff is amazing though, props to them…Just terrible, terrible ownership and management.

Don't be fooled by the older good reviews, the owner changed in the summer of 2021. Chris, the new owner/manager's tactics and decisions are questionable. We moved to Axis music academy in West Bloomfield and we are having a much better time with better quality gigs and management.

Working with each individual student's needs and goals is the best way I can think of to handle lesson programs, and that's exactly what I get at School of Rock! The staff are all awesome at the Farmington location, and they actively encourage everyone to keep playing, keep singing, and rock on!

My son was crushed and cried his way to school this morning because he found out that he was dismissed from the 'School of Rock Farmington' by the new owner Chris, for nothing that my son did. Chris, without any notice or discussion with us, decided to dismiss my son from the school this morning, because I responded to a SoR customer survey that he didn't like. My concern and issue was mainly with the new ownership who I believe has changed the 'School of Rock Farmington' from a music loving family culture to a money focused operation that takes advantage of the love we have for our kids. Shortly after Chris took over the Farmington location, my first conversation with him consisted with him telling me how poorly the school used to be run by the prior management and how he was going to make everything bigger and better. Soon after the ownership change, Eric, the former GM, along with many other staff members that we loved, were gone. While I really didn't like the changes that I was seeing, I eventually decided to ignore it because my son was so in love with drumming. And most recently, I had an "interaction" with Chris over paying cover for two young kids that we had in our group from this past Sunday's mid-season concert. When I asked him why our 6 yr old daughter and her 6 yr old cousin needed to pay for cover (because little kids didn't need to pay before), Chris immediately got defensive and angrily told me that since he became the owner at Farmington everyone needed to pay no matter how young. Then he went onto tell me how expensive it was for him to run the shows and called me "petty" for even bringing this up. My son really loved the school and all of his teachers and friends he made so far at SoR Farmington. He really fell in love with drumming and really fell in love with music, which I credit the prior SoR management, and all former and current teachers and staff members for. My son and my family loved the program and would like to thank everyone at 'School of Rock Farmington' that looked after him. He's currently heart broken, but I'm hopeful that he will find a better school that looks out more for the kids than their own ego and bottom line. P.S. My brother-in-law emailed Chris this morning (without me knowing) because our whole family is heartbroken right now. Chris responded back saying that he will have my son back in his school as long as I changed my review score to an 8. I have no intentions of making any compromises and don't need to have my son back at his money/review hungry institution. I hope Chris well too and wish him luck as he tries to make a ton of money off the kids that just wants to love music.

Not all kids programming is created equally. I continue to be so impressed. Everything from Caitlin at the front desk (she literally makes every kiddo feel welcome and special in a laid back cool way) to the amazing instructors (Joey is outstanding at being shy kids out of their comfort zone) to the owner who really has a vision. I feel lucky to have such a great music resource in our community!
