I visited December 5th, 2023 for the Tree lighting. It was free to go in And every thing was lighted beautifully. The museum tells of Flints History back to the 1800s ...It has cars, carriages, clothing, huts, tank and much more. It has a great interactive section for Kids. There are different interactive through out the museum. It was great fun and the lights were beautiful. They do the Christmas tree lighting every year.

It is so much different than when we went before. I like the talking spots, and the information was easy to read. But there is so much "missing" as my kids said. They were looking for the "tire, line training" as they called it and the neon Buick sign. The new hands on science center was awesome. So they didn't leave sad.

This such a great place for a dad like me to bring the kids for a couple of hours to let them explore and have fun. Our boys especially loved the water everywhere area. It was fun to show my eldest son the Native American exhibit and the car exhibit. He thought the cars were very cool. I appreciate how the museum has things for the whole family to see even though it's mostly designed for the little ones. It was also very nice to be able to get in free with my kids as a member of the military.

I have been going to the Sloan Museum since I was young, I always enjoyed all of the local history that it had on display. They just finished a major renovation this year and the museum is completely revamped. It still has a good bit of the local history but has been expanded to include a lot more for smaller children which is nice as challenging them and exposing them to new things is critical to their development. If your a resident of Genesee County just show your ID and your group will get in for free!

I can't believe I hadn't been here sooner. This place is absolutely incredible! There was sooo much to keep my three year old occupied. The water table is amazing, as is the town and the science area!

Totally restructured and activities for all ages. Free to Gennisee residents and veterans. Best to go when Flint has their car show there if you just want to see classic cars.

We finally got to visit the updated and enhanced Sloan Museum of Discovery. The new museum was free to enter for Genesee County residents with proof of residency. If there is a special exhibit it will cost money to enter. The museum is clean however, there were a few kinks that need ti be worked out on some of the displays in both the kids area and in the Sloan exhibit with vehicles. There was some programming for children that were making crafts. I felt the directions needed to be a bit more clear on how to get the movies to run. Activation occurs when you step on the grey carpet. I liked the exhibits and collections, I just wish there was even more to look at within the museum. I also felt that it could be clearer how to walk through the museum. There was signage out the doors, but would have been helpful within to make sure you knew how to navigate to see all the displays. There was a gift shop and Coffee Beanery within the museum. I didn’t make it to the gift shop, but I did buy a few drinks at the coffee shop and a scone. It seemed to be a little expensive and the personnel was not overly friendly. We didn’t about 3 hours at the museum. All in all, I thought this was a great day out and is something that every Genesee County resident should take advantage of as well as residents outside of this county.

While up here last December, I discovered this gem while visiting the Art Museum directly across the street. It was closed for renovations and I wasn't able to visit at the time, so I made a point of stopping in while in the area. This seems to be a family friendly museum with a large kids area for them to explore. There's also a large area of Flint's history with logging, automotive, General Motors and cars. Also, I didn't have to pay since I wasn't a Genesee county resident? Otherwise I think it's $12 to get in if you are.The car exhibit is fabulous to look at. It's pretty much General Motors since it was a major Flint employer for many years. Overall I didn't spend more than a half an hour here cruising through the place. I thought there would be more, but there wasn't. I was hoping to have spent at least an hour but couldn't pull it off. No, I didn't read every single sign because not everything here appeals to me, but it is a good spot to learn and expand your horizons at.

A great place to bring young children. A variety of fun interactive play areas that will keep the kids busy for a while. While this place is free for Genesee county residents, the price may be a little bit high for those without children from out of town who just want to see the cars (which are pretty cool).

I would suggest waiting maybe a half year to maybe a year so they can organize it. Currently I find the exhibits placed in a haphazard organization, but I can't really call it organized. It would have been nice to allow it to be organized in some chronological fashion. But it's not. Not even the smaller exhibits (past history) aren't organized in that manner. I did enjoy looking at some of the cars. I was hoping some of the innovations which occurred in Flint could be recognized and focused on, instead of the negative aspects in the area. The discovery areas are still in a grand opening - stumbling before walking phase. I think if some professional effort can be applied, it can be a true gem. Right now, it's pretty rough.

We enjoyed the New Sloam Museum. For as long as it was closed and the exhibits at the museum, I was hoping for more. They may have a grandiose space for traveling exhibits, but it doesn't seem as if the space is all utilized if that is not the case. Kinda underwhelmed. Also noticed that some of the permanent exhibits were already broken. We did buy a year pass as it can be used at other museums in Michigan that make the cost for tickets either discounted or free.

Fun for kids. The water play area is huge and entertaining. A maker lab with rotating craft and art supplies kept the older kids busy. There is a tall climbing structure and slide, hands on science exhibits and the more grown up history area. Cars and Flint area history on display.A village intended for kids 6 and under, had several older kids using their imaginations and happily pretend playing along. The village has a store, ambulance, post office, mechanic etc with toys to interact with. There is a section for babies to play. There is a Coffee Beanery inside.

This is where of the history of Flint and the surrounding area comes alive. The Sloan Museum splendidly splays out important themes in the county's history, going back to it's Native American roots to it's labor disputes and strikes, the automotive industry, transportation, the grocery industry, and much more. Stilled scenes of yesteryear outfitted with fully-dressed figures and of-era decor present a glimpse into the past. Exhibits aren't too lengthy, and neither is the amount of reading required to soak-in each display. Overall an awesome learning experience for me and for the children.

3 1/2 stars is what I want to rate this visit to Sloan....a year ago we were highly impressed(read my other review) but unfortunately the Hot Wheels exhibit just didn't do it for any of the four of us(older this year-one 9 yr old, me-mom, two 26 year olds). We went at 3pm hoping to spend time there till closing at 5pm including the back looking at the vintage cars and trucks, play area. There just wasn't enough to keep us occupied, especially the 9 year old. He did enjoy the interactive stuff in the exhibit-best part putting tires on a "race car" and filling it with "gas". They had some hot wheels with different tracks to play with also, which he enjoyed. I just think it was gone through a lot quicker than any other exhibit we've gone to here in the past. He thought it was kind of boring.....We always like going to look at the vintage models, so that was still nice. Last time there was a craft to do and that was really fun, plus there was a setup in the back that seemed like there was two things going on over just the Hot Wheels exhibit this time around...this time the whole back play area was geared towards small kids. So being nine years old and tall, he didn't know what to do with himself back there. I love supporting Sloan and have a membership for the year again, so I'm looking forward to the new place this summer. Hoping it will be more interesting for him as he will be 10 in May. Glad I had 2 free passes on this one with my membership....would've been really dissatisfied otherwise.
