ATTN Record collectors: calling Rock of Ages a "record store" is exceptionally misleading. If you want to flip through 400 records you've seen at every other record store in Michigan, I guess this is your place.DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BRING SMALL CHILDREN TO THIS STORE. The owner thinks it's apparently acceptable to have glass cases with back issues of Penthouse with no blocked off access allowing small children to be exposed to pornography. I had some very awkward conversations driving home.If you want to get pro-Trump nonsense, this is your store. It reminds me of a Spencer's Gifts for boomers. If you're serious about collecting music, this is a HARD PASS.

Little bit of everything, piercing equipment, to window decals, to your Medicinal smoking needs?. But this place has everything music, and if you can think it... this place has everything you could want and more when it comes to music.

They have a very wide selection with a ton of records. Some are sorted and some aren’t. You could be in here for hours searching through the countless bins. Overall a great place but the trump stuff could turn some people off.

I've been shopping here since I was 11 years old, I am 24 now. I love the owner, he's super laid back and straight to the point. Prices are AMAZING and the selection is huge. Anything from smoking accessories to cds/dvds, to body jewelry. Just an overall cool store. I've took over 20 people here and they've all fell in love with the atmosphere.Only thing I would get rid of is the Trump apparel. It gives off vibes to the overall theme of the store.

Great selection of music/vinyl but it's a bigot fest and it's sad that anyone could have so much hateful memorabilia in its store. Shopped here since like 2010 and it sucks now:/ prob won't go back.

It gives me no joy to trash a local business -- especially a local music store, which I usually support unreservedly -- but this place sucks, and I'm not just referring to their MAGA, Trump, DeSantis, Let's Go Brandon/F*** Joe Biden merchandise (though that sucks too, big time). If you're any kind of serious CD collector, you likely enjoy browsing through the "used" bins at a local store, turning up a few unexpected finds to fill holes in your collection -- yeah, good luck with that here. The bins are stuffed haphazardly with a mishmash of mismatching genres (I mean, Milton Berle next to thrash metal? DVDs and CDs together?). There's no organization except for a loose adherence to alphabetical order (and I do mean loose). And perhaps worst of all, 90% of the CDs are imprisoned in plastic "longboxes" making browsing an unpleasant experience. Most of the discs that aren't entombed in those cursed monstrosities are in smaller plastic cases with opaque tops that make it impossible to tell what the disc is from above, so you have to dig each one out to see its cover. Plus, they have 2-3 different styles of longboxes and another 2-3 different short ones, so there's no consistency in how CDs are presented. Multiple varieties of long and short plastic mixed together = supreme frustration, and a lot of the bins are stuffed so full that you can't easily flip through them to begin with. Then there's the selection itself. At least initially, it's hard to tell if they have ANY used CDs, because the overwhelming majority of discs are factory sealed with those stickers on top that display the artist and album title (which, yes, does make browsing a little easier, but not as much as you might think). I didn't see anything priced lower than $9.99, and when I did spot that price I assumed it was probably used (those discs typically didn't have the top sticker), but really, who even knows? Would it have killed them to separate new from used, like any decent music store does? (Oddly, they do separate rap/hip-hop and punk/hardcore from the main bins, for reasons I will refrain from guessing at.) Overall, it's an exceedingly weird mix of lesser-known metal and what appear to be the unsold dregs from the record store at the mall that closed 15 years ago. I don't know, if you're a metalhead with a soft spot for Justin Bieber, maybe you'll love this place. I am not that person. They ran out of bins somewhere in the T's in the back room, and just started stacking CDs on their sides in wire racks attached to the wall. Some of those racks are behind counters so it's difficult to get a good look at the ones closer to the floor. I pretty much skipped T-Z because it just wasn't worth my time (and the strain on my eyes and lower back) to look through those racks. They have some vinyl too, but the bulk of the music-related floorspace is devoted to CDs. I am no longer a vinyl collector, so I did not assess their offerings in that category, but given the state of their CD bins, I'm not optimistic. The whole place is a mess. It's a very unpleasant and depressing browsing experience. The lighting is poor. The aisles are claustrophobic. And the politics are neanderthal. I do not plan any future visits. Go to Dearborn Music instead (the one actually in Dearborn), which is superior in EVERY sense.

Rock of Ages was awesome for RSD 2023. I got my Taproot album. If you're from Michigan, then YOU KNOW. And a sleuth of other great titles and previous years' RSD albums. Support local businesses!
