About Camp Optimist
Camp Optimist, fondly known as Camp O, has a rich history spanning over 35 years, creating lasting memories for many who attended as children. Recent facility upgrades have revitalized the camp, enhancing the experience for new generations. Campers recall a memorable atmosphere filled with fun activities, including fire artists, arts and crafts, archery, and engaging skits. Many fondly remember the joyful songs sung on the buses and during morning gatherings, such as "Good Morning Mr. Zip Zip Zip" and "Herman the worm." The camp is also known for its outdoor adventures, including horseback riding and overnight trips to a Yurt for stargazing. Although some feel the camp has changed over the years, the strong sense of community and cherished experiences remain a significant draw. Parents today are eager to pass on the joy of Camp O to their children, knowing it continues to foster a love for nature and friendship.

Over 35 years since moving to GR, have met lots of people who talk of enjoying Camp O when young. I’ve seen it being transformed recently with many facility upgrades. Great work!

Went here for a few years as a kid. It was such a memorable, amazing experience. Especially the fire artists that they would bring in.

The guy that runs the place who was a heavy smoker. Bruised my arm and harassed me as a child probably 15 years ago. Don't know if I'd want my children around him.
