The Dollar General in Ionia is a busy store and the only place down the hill to pick up something fast. It is described as the best treasure from Ionia in awhile, with easy accessible employees who do not bother customers. However, there are significant criticisms. The store is frequently out of the food that customers want. A major issue is accessibility for disabled people, specifically those in electric wheelchairs, who report never being able to get through the aisles. Things stick out, displays are blocking aisle space, and aisles are obstructed by carts, trash, or displays. This leads to items being accidentally knocked down, and messes are sometimes not cleaned up for a week. The store appears understaffed, overworking employees. One instance described an employee with no one to help her, a huge line, and people getting nasty with her. She had to close the self-scan, manage a restroom request, and was seen stopping everything to talk to her daughter. The Muir store is a favorite alternative, with the Ionia location visited only when necessary. The feedback urges the store to pay more attention to accessibility and staffing, suggesting that with two people, one could clean or stock while the other runs the register.
