My wife and I stop in periodically to get whatever it is that we want/need. The ladies there are fantastic. Always helping where they can, they make your experience very pleasurable. I've had issues with some footwear that we got from there, and they are all over helping me resolve the issue. Stop in, say hello, check out what they have. All quality and reasonably priced attire are just waiting for you to check out!

Great place to get great work boots, Carhartt apparel and so much more. Only complaint is the windows are blinding and it's hard on sunny days to look at the shoes/boots on the window side of the building. Other than that we love this store

The only place to find a good variety of steel toe boots and shoes. Slightly more expensive but you can try them on and buy right away, rather than wait for them to come in the mail. Nice place, nice customer service.

This is a fantastic store for good outdoor gear. You can order online to Amazon, or you can go try on your outdoor hiking boots and ensure a good fit. Then pick up a great sale jacket for fall or spring. So pleased that I went here l! Found a great boot for comparable prices and the most comfortable Carhart I’ve ever had!

Great store in a wonderful, small U.P. town, Iron Mountain, that has great selection of name brand recreational and work boots, shoes, and Carhartt clothing. Store staff are knowledgeable and so welcoming to out of Towner's like us!

Great place for work boots and clothes. I was looking for some Chippewa loggers but they don't carry that brand. They've got Thorogood and Red Wing though. Nice friendly staff too

I love supporting local businesses so I thought I'd give them some businesses while I was in Iron Mountain. Bought a $350 pair of Red Wings for work. Wore them a couple of days when I noticed one boot was not breaking in quite right and gouging the top of my foot. I live a little over 4 hours away, and luckily got a weekend I could load up the wife and kids to go return these boots during the Red Wing 30 Day Comfort Guarantee. I pulled in after a 4 hour drive with 3 kids all under 4 y.o., only to find out that they would not honor the Guarantee as a Red Wing Dealer. The lady even refused to simply let me exchange them for another size. Red Wing Corporate informed me that any "Reputable" Red Wing Dealer would know about this 30 day unconditional warranty and immediately issue a refund. I love supporting local businesses but it's customer service experiences like this that justify more and more people purchasing their goods at big online retailers.

I am on disability and trying to get back to work via Vocational Rehabilitation. Yesterday I went into Step Ahead and explained that they are the only vendor in the area for MRS VR and they told me I could pick out work boots and have them fax an invoice to pay for them so I could later pick them up. Immediately, before I even offered my shoe size, I was told they could not help me. I asked why, and was told they don't have my shoe size. I tell them it's just a 12W. The woman tells me, "Those are diabetic shoes." I explain that I get one pair a year with my insurance but would also like work boots for a job I am trying out soon. They refuse to look or let me check any boots. So I leave. My mother calls an hour or so later and inquires about shoes. She asks if they carry women's shoes in her size but also if they carry mens in my size. The woman working says "yes of course, we have hundreds of shoes in stock and can order more. Of course we have those sizes." Then my mother explains they just refused me service after learning I had a disability. Suddenly the clerks story changes. She said they don't have shoes for diabetics or with Velcro. My mother explains that's irrelevant because I was in fact looking for work boots, that Velcro did not matter, and that I had told them that. It appears Step Ahead Shoes wishes to refuse service to the disabled. I would encourage people to keep this in mind and not patronize Neuens owned businesses.

Always love this store, they have clearance racks, and pretty much any Carhardtt clothing you could want, even in big sizes, we found 5X sweatshirts.
