I will start this off with a good note. The facility has nice equipment, a pool, cardio room, and hot tubs.Paying the fees we pay as members should come with a properly ran facility. The steam room in men’s locker room barely ever works. They re painted it and you can already see the grim building up in the steam room. Have you all ever heard of a weekly deep clean??? Whenever I have family in town I have to drive all the way to Grand Rapids because they allow me to bring a guest when the facility I pay my fees to doesn’t. They claim they are at max capacity, but the gym is never crowded. The sauna also seems like it’s never been deep cleaned. For the amount of money you all have rolling in you guys should really be cleaner. Allowing guest should be a given like it is at literally any other facility in America. We pay too much money to have our own family turned down. I am currently looking for a new gym for this exact reason.

I love the YMCA. The gym is well equipped and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. Unique classes are offered - though some require a nominal fee. That said the fencing classes I take with my child are worth every penny. Both Kalamazoo and Portage YMCAs are a fantastic service to our community.

I love the gentle yoga offered on Mondays and Fridays at noon during Fall 2023. The instructor gives clear instructions and leads the exercises at a nice slow pace.

Its ok. Neep to update there app with the pool hours like portage does. Asked at service desk was given lame excuse because they have 2 pools, well make another tab in the app.

Okay so I love it!. But what I don't love is that is $20 extra a month to be able to use the sauna and steam room which it never used to be that way ?

We’ve been members for almost twenty years, so obv we’re on board with the facilities and whatnot. Today something out of the ordinary happened that speaks to the character of many of the staff and crew there. Our eldest lost a set of keys that were located by a police officer. That officer called the Y (trying to track our eldest down, so credit where it’s due there) and the Y called us, the “accounts billable” party, instead of giving out a number. I’m very happy to see their checks and balances (and just sticking to the rules) works as it should. Really did us a solid. Can’t say enough good things about them.

In order to cancel you have to go in. You also have to cancel a week in advance not to be charged the following month. Seems like a one sided policy.

Great place to work out, good rates for young people. There are plenty of machines and overflow parking for busy days.

Love going to my swim classes for exercise. Hate the app for trying to get a space in class. Not once have I got right in my one class; i always get the wait list. Not sure how the app works that out when Im right on at 8 a.m. if there is that much response for a 9 am. Class why cant we get an 8 a.m. class added? I would happily come earlier so there is room for all and I can quit getting waitlisted. Most the time Im waitlisted I dont get in to the class. Once i got notified 15 minutes before a class that I got a spot but I didnt have time to drive there to get in and had to unregister.

Great website and a wonderful facility! The YMCA is a great place to work out...they have several options for membership and are very helpful in getting you started. Check out the YMCA!

Ymca is a nice place to go workout swimming take families it’s really heart felt warm environment to work out in only problem is they are all ways full v they don’t have enough family swim time where more families can go swim daily often for weight loss . So in my honest opinion we need to build another building for ymca with two pools three so more families can swim daily as much as often for weight loss better health . Swimming is easier on the body joints stuff one of the best ways to loss weight feel great .. I’m for it build another YMCA

The Kalamazoo Y has more limited family swim than most other Ys in the state. It is limited to an hour per day on most days, during time windows when most children are in school. Even for school breaks, they are unwilling to extend family swim hours, and sign up is nearly impossible. It is a great facility for adults, but not for families.

As someone from a larger urban area who visits family in Kalamazoo 3-4 times per year, the “No Guest Pass” policy is quite prohibitive and, compared to other areas we visit, abnormal. This has to be yet another contributor to the statistical decline of the Y.
