Island Bookstore is a quaint little bookstore that is definitely worth visiting and is a great place to take a break from walking around Mackinac Island. Nothing says the island like ending up in this bookstore. It has all the sections you would expect, including a surprisingly good selection for a smaller site, with a focus on local historical books and local authors. Customers often find themselves looking at the history books on Michigan and Mackinac Island, though some note the history books can be on narrow topics or specific time periods. The store also sells manga and items like cute kitty magnetic bookmarks. They do a very good job displaying books in the window that make you want to walk right in. Many people love the store and make a point of coming in whenever they are on the island, praising the excellent customer service. The staff is known to be friendly and engaging. It is noted that this store should not be confused with the Little Island Bookstore across the street and further down.

Definitely worth visiting! A surprisingly good selection for a smaller site, and excellent customer service. My wife bought me a book there on my honeymoon, and it turns out it was missing some pages, and Island Bookstore sent me a perfect copy free of charge (I didn't even have to send back the original one).
