We've been here numerous times over the years. Anytime we are in the area we definitely stop at Mama Mia's for food and drinks then definitely a trip upstairs. If you're an Iron Worker the food is complimentary.Don't forget about the Bridge Walk during Labor Day weekend. We did it in 2002.

This has been a place my immediate family has went to since I was a child. Growing up, year after year. And since 1991 when we started walking the bridge for Labor Day. We once went there to learn my late grandfather William Gust, donated his hard hat and iron workers Union stuff to the museum. Not that long afterwards, the museum caught fire. And a lot of the upstairs was destroyed. Including his hard hat and Union book, along with others. His Union helped build the bridge. My wife has never been inside. The year she was invited with my immediate family. Mom, Dad, brother n sisters. Was the year it caught fire. We were stunned. Kind of heartbreaking. But glad to see they rebuilt, and have other ppl to help with artifacts. I took my wife there yesterday. Her 1st time. So I took pictures of what it looks like now.

Fun little break from the hustle and bustle outside on the mackinaw crossings strip. Located upstairs inside Mama Mias Pizza, it's fun to eat with entertainment. There are a few rooms filled with items from the making of the Mackinaw Bridge. Interesting, historical items displayed were more impressive to the adults than the kids. There was a screen or two showing movies, clips and interviews but we could not listen for too long. Small but educational.

Great spot to have a quick detour of your wanting to do some sightseeing at museums. This location is inside a pizza eatery, located up stairs. There is no entry fee to see the museums artifacts. It did feel weird looking at these items while everyone else is eating around you, but hey I suppose your use to it if you wantto sit there and eat while people walk around looking at artifacts. I would visit it again though and maybe try out the pizza too.

Want great information about the bridge? This museum is amazing, artifacts, stories, video records by people who built the bridge, and a theater that plays a great documentary about the bridge... the only weird but strangely interesting thing is where it’s located, above a pizza shop.

A Must "Bookmark" in Mackinaw City, before or after Pizza! After many annual October Fall visits to Mackinaw City, I was pleased to have visited this Michigan Historical Museum on October 19, 2019. It is located upstairs above the pizza business MaMa Mia's therefore my idea was to walk off my delicious pizza lunch, read and learn about the history in the building of the Mighty Mackinaw Bridge. This museum is phenomenal about the history in the building of the Mackinaw Bridge 1954-1958.When walking upstairs there are walls and walls of photos naming the many dedicated, skilled, talented iron workers. Their used equipment of helmets, work gear, tools and details is emotional too at the same time to see and read. They faced their dangerous jobs daily before, during and after the completion plus a few deaths did occurr throughout the construction.Free AdmissionFree Movie is played for your history lesson while relaxing in comfortable chairs as well.I wrote down facts and information last year to help my review.. :-) There was 11,000 International Iron Workers, other tradesmen, and engineers that were dedicated, hard working and skilled employees to start the construction ground breaking on May 7, 1954. They all risked their lives daily, weekly and monthly for three years on the job before opening the bridge to traffic on November 1, 1957. (During the construction in the 1950's five men died)The Mackinaw Bridge construction went on into 1958 with 3,500 workers, 895,000 structural and blueprint drawings. They used:71,300 tons of steel42,000 miles of cable wire931,000 tons of concrete4,851,700 steel rivets1,016,600 steel boltsand over 90,000,00 dollarsThe metal structure is one of eight land based survey towers, which were used along with six water based towers. My review plus photos, describes only half of this business. A guest needs to make a trip to Michigan and put on your list of places to visit this "Mackinaw Bridge Museum" for yourself. Then afterwards take a drive over the Mackinaw Bridge to see, feel and understand the history of how the bridge was built. I enjoy it yearly in the Summer or Fall! :-) I will always look forward to visiting this museum when in Mackinaw City, in case I missed a part of the history story. Then to remember, reflect, honor those past brave and talented Iron Workers that dedicated their lives to build The Mighty Mackinaw Bridge!

Very disappointed. Was hoping to enjoy pizza there for lunch and relive childhood memories of the museum. Ended up having to eat somewhere else for lunch since they pushed back their open time by an hour, not once, not twice, but three times. Sorry I’m hungry. We went back to see the museum after it finally opened and was disappointed in that as well. It was no where near as exciting as it used to be.

The original Museum burned, they have been collecting artifacts since to replace everything that went up in smoke. It is still an interesting place to visit. I'll go again on the next trip.
