Our family has been by this place for years and never had the chance to stop so we were excited when we pulled into the "full parking lot " and saw the "Homemade" signs out front... We walked into an empty restaurant? Apparently the employees have front row parking here. We ordered our food with a less than enthusiastic waitress and it wasn't terrible looking when it came out but upon eating it was beyond apparent that nothing in the place is actually homemade. It's all directly out of a Sysco can. Our family of four barely ate and took a giant box of nasty food for our 5 hour travel home...20 minutes into our trip we all felt horrible. It was the most miserable 5 hours after eating that meal. Needless to say the pup didn't even get to eat the carryout box. Processed generic food posing to be a home cooked meal. Biggest disappointment on highway 2.

Will always return but the waitress is terrible. No personality and very slow. No basic skills like refills or empty plates.

Excellent lake view, and atmosphere of the local. I wish we had come during lunch time so that we could have got the salad bar.

Food was good overall (Be sure to read to the end). I am noticing a lot of negative comments on the waitress with the red hair and unfortunately, I would have to concur. We entered the door and were met with a less than enthusiastic attitude. More like, "oh great, more customers. Not what I was hoping for." To say she is slow is an understatement. I asked for a refill on my coffee which I never got. She never came back and asked how our food tasted (It was fine). Her overall attitude seemed to be one of not wanting to be there. This was my wifes first time there and she loved the setting but noticed the same thing. I've been there several times over the last 15 years but have had this particular waitress the last few times. All the times were the same bad experience with her. I'm all about second chances, but you'd better make good on them. My brother stopped in once last year ( he's been there several times as well). Had the same awful service by the same waitress. Said he will never go back. Here's the kicker that will make me never go back again. We got up to pay at the register since we could tell we would have to wait forever to get our bill based on a few other tables waiting for theirs. Well, while waiting at the register, we observed our red haired waitress making two salads, reaching into the shredded cheese bin with her bare hands and putting it on the salads. This is after handling money while cashing people out at the register, clearing tables, etc. Very unsanitary and makes me wonder how our food was handled. Glad I didn't order a salad. Won't be back after seeing that. Gross!!

the food is always great - love their pasties, however everything I've had has been really delicious. Just had their turkey & rice soup yesterday and it seriously may be the best soup I've every had. the service has always been fantastic as well, very friendly and knowldegable about their menu. The BEST part of eating at the Bayview Inn is the incredible view of the Straites of Mackinaw right out their awesome picture windows. The 3 sides of the restaraunt face the straits, and the place sits up on a bluff affording an unobstructed view below. I will stop here whenever I am in the area.

Whitefish is very good, but even eating inside the flies were a real nuisance. Staff acted like they weren't happy to be working there. Probably won't be back.

Hubby and I both ordered the white fish basket. The whitefish was really good as well as the fries. The coleslaw was just your typical Sisco or Gordon food service. I gave the atmosphere three stars because it seems every time we comefrom Grand Rapids to eat here there are a large amount of flies throughout the restaurant.

Hard to find an early breakfast near Trout Lake. This place is great! Amazing views of lake Michigan. Awesome grilled white fish and eggs!

Stopped in for take out breakfast pasties, to take to the cabin for breakfast. Found out they were made by Hiawatha Pasties, so likely stop there in the future. Also take out pasties don't come with the sausage gravy described in the menu. Also got a couple dinner pasties for the following days lunch. The gravy smells amazing, and tastes good too. And the pasty was great even cold. (We planned to eat it like the miners did, for lunch. Neat piece of history.) Staff not terribly warm. But it was close to closing. (Take note, most small town restaurants in the UP close early, even on weekends.)
