DNR cabins are awesome. And the Pines cabin is very nice with great scenery, but unfortunately, they don't want to mention that you have to wheel all of your stuff (which may be a lot due to being a rustic cabin) up a giant hill because you must park behind a gate at the bottom, instead of just driving up-which is quite easy. At least tell people what they're in for! The cart in photo 2 is what you'll be using to haul your stuff up to and down from the cabin.

The park is a great place for family gatherings. We've been celebrating our family reunions there yearly for around 50 years. The swimming area is virtually non-existent though.

They don't have a good swimming area anymore they put up a fence and rocks and bassically made the park useless. Husband grew up there and spent many days in the beach which no longer exists. Super sad. Hope they fix it and make it kid friendly again.

I would leave no stars if at all possible. They have all the restrooms locked and their excuse was they don't have the staff but they had staff to come verify our dogs were leashed. In the meantime ladies can't use the facilities and their "replacement" is a pit hole at the boat launch. It's disgusting and inexcusable. $16 for a day pass and you can't even use a restroom?! Lazy, mismanaged, and pathetic.

Did some ice fishing at Big Fish Lake, had a great time but only had one bite. The boat launch and picnic area are well developed and I'm sure in the summer it's a great place.

Nice hills to get a hike in the woods. Trails well marked. Really only a large loop with a hillier trek through the middle. 2.75 mi east side thru center loop. Around 3 miles around outside loop. Could make it two loops for more mileage. Bugs bad in summer, but it's great rest of year. Muddy with rain. There is a vault toilet about 1/4 mile from Parking, next to the rustic cabin. Bathroom was open in winter with actual TP and hand sanitizer, but dirt road blocked to vehicular traffic so must walk, bike, xc ski. But that's what u come there to do. Mtn. Biked before also, fun, but not always well maintained. Trees down, etc so you have to walk around. Xc skiing is NOT groomed. Although a decent hill skier, this trail is relatively well used by local dog walkers, so snow shoes are better, unless you can get 1st tracks And don't mind setting track. Parking is for around 12 vehicles. Never seen more than 6, so seems ample, but it's about 1/2 mile or more back thru sometimes slippery snow. I use 4 wheel drive in snow, but unless large snowfall and they haven't plowed, you would be fine with front wheel drive.
