Staff and doctors are always friendly. The newer doc, big guy with a beard, is great. Great personality. Our dogs really liked him and so did we.

Saw our dog last minute during a blizzard . The staff was so nice on the phone and in person. Dr went over test results, shared images with me of their findings. They were thorough and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg! Highly recommend hiring them to be your pets vet..

ZERO Stars! This place killed my animals! Cost me hundreds of dollars and no answers and Courtney is so rude it's unbearable to work with her! She shouldn't have a job after both my dogs are now dead! STAY AWAY from her and that place!

I screwed up. I spent all of my money to move into a place and didn't have a back up plan, and my cat started limping. It took me two weeks to find out about third party medical billing, and by the time I found out it was a break the next day, the damage had become permanent. My cat was about to lose her leg, because I didn't plan ahead for an emergency, and now had to scramble for options before it got any worse. The doctor gave me an option. He removed the damaged bone, leaving the common floating hip, but also, there were muscles attached to a decayed shard of bone, that he reattached to new places in her remaining structure. It's been almost a month, and she's using her leg better and better ever since. They even restored her ability to scratch her own face on the right side. I'm very grateful to this surgical team, and will forever keep the lesson about what cats will limp off in my heart.BTW, it's the cat in my profile picture, her name is Banshee, she's my second cat, and I rescued her from a depression so profound she was starving herself to death. To all the folks who said "Just cut it off, it's cheaper," I'm glad that I fought rather than cut off part of my happiness. With all of my heart, I feel a deep gratitude for the Great Lakes Surgical team and what they have done for my deserving girl. I fell short and they scooped her up before I crashed into the ground with her.

TLDR; Great first few impressions, but continually dismissed concerns after new symptoms arose after illness. Went for a second opinion elsewhere, turns out he has a parasite that I wouldn't have known about if I stayed here.I got my puppy at the end of August 2023 and decided to use Great Lakes as his vet clinic. It was great when first starting out. Everyone was very friendly and helped me navigate owning a 3-month old puppy. However, in December, he ate some plastic. They were quick to get him in when he developed diarrhea and lethargy a few days later. We started with anti-biotics and probiotics, which improved symptoms for a few days and then worsened. They gave him a second round of each, which did not improve his condition, nor did boiled chicken and rice diet. I brought him in a second time and they (finally) wanted a fecal sample. They started him on a prescription diet. His stool improved, but started new symptoms of frantically whining and biting his back paw/legs and butt after meals. I expressed my concerns but they told me they did not want to switch him. I gave the food 2 weeks and he still was acting this way after meals. I brought it up again and they told me to give it more time and to think about trying a medicated shampoo. They did not seem interested in my concerns for the wellbeing of my puppy at all.I eventually got fed up with spending a ton money and not having any answers as to what was going on with my dog. Turns out he has a parasite that I wouldn't have known about if I had not taken him to a different vet who did a more extensive fecal. We just started treatment for his parasite and he's hopefully going to be on the mend. We are staying with this new vet, who was recommended by his trainer, even though it's 35 min away on the other side of GR.

For the most part I have always been very satisfied with the care my pets have received at Great Lakes. That is until I brought 2 of my dogs in for vaccines. When I made the appointments I made them for Distemper vaccine, and declined the Lepto vaccine. When I brought them on two separate occasions for the vaccines I was asked on the phone in the parking lot if they were here for distemper vaccine to which I replied yes. They take the dog back for vaccine and they go over the invoice and inform me that my dog is receiving Lepto vaccine along with others. The first time, they went back in time and stopped the tech from giving it. The second time it was too late. Please, please be more specific about exactly what the dog will be receiving! And when a client verbally declines one, please make a note of it for the upcoming appointment.

Tried to tell me my spayed cat was pregnant and insisted I needed to pay tons of money for x-rays to confirm (she was spayed with a clear spay scar)

Everyone at Great Lakes Animal Hospital is very friendly and definitely cares. I transferred to this vet because they had high reviews and had quick availability, which I appreciated.Unfortunately, my dog’s bilateral CCL tears went undiagnosed for over a year, despite multiple visits, scans and her limping not improving unless she took daily pain meds. It was finally caught on the third set of x rays when one vet suggested she be sedated so they could better assess her. This allowed them to preform a more thorough mobility assessment on her knees which finally diagnosed the tears. I only wish someone suggested having her sedated last year, if the CCL was even a concern, and speaking with the surgeon it should have been their first concern since it’s so common with her risk factors and her presenting symptoms.Unfortunately, the surgeons said that one knee is too scarred, due to it being an old injury, to make surgery worth it. Now my dog will struggle with lifelong arthritis and she’s only 4. I feel guilty as a pet owner that I didn’t push more when my dog initially was limping over a year ago and was told it was just hip dysplasia and arthritis. I know they didn’t mean for this to happen but unfortunately I lost a lot of trust after this situation.

My family and I have been going to this vet for decades now and I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else with my 2 dogs. The staff is amazing and so friendly and they make everything extremely easy to schedule or reschedule if necessary.
