About Sunken Lake Park

Sunken Lake Park is a secluded and quiet gem in Michigan, a beloved family spot for generations. It is a campground and day use area going through changes and improvements, with new management doing a great job. The park is split into two main areas connected by a road and trails, featuring a bridge to Bear Island with primitive tent plots. It offers excellent fishing on a nice smaller lake, a swimming area, and a shallow stream. There is plenty to do for all ages, including playgrounds on each side, trails, a pavilion, picnic areas at nearly every camp spot, and a medium-sized covered picnic area for rent. The communal space sometimes has live music and wooden bench swings. The lake and stars are beautiful. Amenities include a bath house with toilets, sinks, and showers—which are older and in need of improvement—along with outhouses and porta-potties in the day use area. The park is dog-friendly with a fenced area, though dogs are not allowed at the beach. It is considered a must-see Michigan spot for camping, fishing, and making family memories in a safe, hospitable setting with good people. Visitors should expect a long, secluded drive and are advised to use bug spray.
