When my kids showed interest in jiu jitsu my husband and I did our research. We were looking for a place that not only had promise for kids but for adults as well. We wanted our kids to be able to develop and grow at a single academy— one they did not age out of or get lost in. We’ve now had kids apart of Downriver Jiu Jitsu for over 2 years. It’s brought my sons together, given them confidence, bravery, and a skill set that includes discipline and self-control. My 5 year old daughter can’t wait to start and my other daughter tried it out but has never been made to feel less than even though it’s not for her. I highly recommend!!!

My son and I were looking for a place to train. After trying a couple other places, we ended up at Downriver Jiu-Jitsu. The training we have received over the last couple months that we have been training here is phenomenal. The culture here is very supportive, friendly, and fun. You might be able to find a bigger place to train, but not better.

I've been going here for six months and have only great things to say about it. The community is welcoming, the instructors are knowledgeable and helpful, the gym is kept clean, and it's fun every single time I go. I can't recommend it enough!

Fantastic academy. They treat you like family regardless if it's your first day or if you've been going for years. They're there to support whatever goals you have. I'm grateful to be apart of such a wonderful 2nd family. I highly recommend diving it and joining the family.

My son has been coming here for a year now and I would recommend to anyone. It has been great for his self-esteem and discipline. He works up a sweat two nights a week and is always excited about coming back.

I’ve had the privilege to train with Professor Brent and the entire Downriver BJJ team for over 2 years now. I am one of the older grapplers in the gym and Brents extensive knowledge in BJJ and health/fitness has developed a training schedule that helps keep me in shape as well as avoid injuries. The whole gym is welcoming and supportive. Higher belts take interest in helping lower belts improve their BJJ understanding and techniques. I can honestly say this gym is for everyone. We have World Champions as well as the everyday person who’s looking to just get some exercise train here.

I have been attending at downriver jui-jitsu for a month now and i am very pleased with the gym. The facility is Very clean and sanitized. The staff is knowledgeable. The instructuctors explain the days lessons which builds off of the previous lessons. I like the fact that you get to practice and then learn to roll properly at the end of each class. You can ask questions and if you arent getting something and the instuctors will help you. It is a very positive enviroment. I would recommend this place even if you dont have any prior experience.

Found this place in December, my family and I were just looking for good quality teaching, good people that didn’t have egos. This felt right! We we’re welcomed moment we walked through the door. Since then we feel DownRiver Jujitsu is like a family and everyone looks out for each other and cares about one another! My daughter / Son and myself really love this place and recommend everyone to come join our team/ gym / family if you want a great environment this is the place!!!

After two full months of training, I can’t say enough how much I enjoy it. At first I was looking for something different besides going to the gym doing some cardio and lifting. I have to say in 48 years nothing hits your full body like this. It’s is by far the best workout I have ever gotten and I feel like I am in the best shape of my life.Coach Brent puts together a great class schedule with each week building on the prior weeks. The other coaches all follow the plan Brent has in place but with their own touches like maybe more of a self defense focus on the move.Lastly mentally training so helps clear my mind during the week work, family, school are all really stressful, when I am on the mats I forget all that stuff it is truly the only time I have more self each week. I find myself more relaxed, less anxious and just in a much better overall mood.Give it a try!

I’ve been coming here for a few months and couldn’t be happier. Professor Brent teaches technique based on a scheduled curriculum, so weekly instruction is very consistent and builds off of the concepts from previous weeks, regardless of what particular class you attend. It’s also structured in a way that gives both experienced and inexperienced athletes something to work on. Outside of BJJ Professor Brent is educated/certified in other physical training modalities, so he ties things together well. The other coaches and even just experienced members are also incredibly knowledgeable and willing to teach/coach. Many blue belts and other upper belts have helped me work through techniques outside of the normal instruction time. That type of generosity just seems to be part of the culture here. Additionally, there is a wide array of body types and experience levels so the sparring is always challenging and interesting. My oldest son attends the childrens’ classes and I’m impressed with how the professor and other coaches walk a line between letting the kids have fun and keeping them on task. It’s a great atmosphere for kids to interact with each other and also build discipline etc.The professionalism, knowledge, and camaraderie are immediately apparent. The only downside is I wish I had time to get to more sessions. I’m here for the long haul though, or at least until they kick me out. If you’ve been considering BJJ, definitely give Downriver Jiu-Jitsu a chance.

I've been to a fair number of BJJ gyms, and Downriver is certainly one of the best I've seen. A perfect balance between training technique and sparring, and a great group.

this place is not where u want to go. The instructor Brent doesnt greet any new students. He just stared at me the whole time i was there. The other instructors are very stand offish and could care lesss if u are there. The white belt class doesnt start on time because Brent has a training class that seems to takes priority over ours. We had to wait 15 mins later to start and then got our time cut short for the higher belt classes that starts after us. This isnt the first time our class didnt start on time. The higher belts bring their kids with them. So now you have to deal with running, screaming, laughing kids while you are trying to learn the lesson. Its nothing but a babby sitting service! On the positive side... It is very clean and the building is very nice. I dont recomend this place at all.

Just joined Downriver JJ the other day and I'm so glad I did. My friend Joe and his family are members. Both visits so far have been great. The current members are making me feel relaxed and have been very helpful while practicing moves and during rolling sessions. Seems like everyone is there to help the new members and share their knowledge of this great discipline. Very excited to get my JJ journey going and I'm glad I chose DJJ. Highly recommend checking them out!
