Spent a lovely couple of days here in early autumn. What a beautiful state park- possibly one of the best we’ve experience. Spacious campsites. The lake is beautiful and this park has beaches and biking/hiking trailsWould imagine with 492 sites it could be quite crowded in summer but after Labor Day you could really have your choice of sites here.

Nice campground with newer bathrooms/showers. Decent sized lots. Easy walk to the beach with crystal clear water.

We have been coming here for over ten years and this year we were very disappointed. The campground was extremely loud after quite hours and we never saw one ranger the entire time we were there at night. They were around during the day, but at night the campground was a free for all. I could hear people yelling from 10 sites down. The bathrooms after they cleaned them didn’t look like they touched them at all. Also we were camping with a group and the staff member checked on of our friends into the wrong site without confirming the name on the site just checked them in. So they had to deal with an upset person who was actually on that site and the rangers coming by, when that shouldn’t have even happened. We aren’t to pleased with our stay.

South higgins lake is a nice lake . We had a big rain storm when we was camping. Not a lot of damage done . Nice store. There ice cream is the best . . Lot of boats. We camp on lot 245. Right next to the bathroom . Bad part we camp next to someone who had three barking dogs. Bark all night. . Bathrooms was nasty . Paper all over showers had only warm water. Best part of the stay there was evert one was so friendly. Very beautiful lake. Would camp there again .

This lake is what makes this park amazing! You don’t come here for the bathrooms (at least the showers have hot water now!). The camping is ok - the sites are so used that there is very little grass to be had - you will have sand everywhere (at least it is 1/2 way clean sand). We love the lake! From my pics, you can see the drop off, that is forever away from shore. The shallow part is only about knee deep for a very long ways. We have kids that range from ages 2-13 & they love all being able to play in the lake together. This is also the lake where you will see tons of boats - it is fun to just watch all the toys that everyone has (& then feel really poor lol!).

Showed up here with a hope of checking in early. 8/11/23 Was turn away until check in time. once we got to our sites they where huge we loved the room here. wish all state parks gave this much room. They have a couple amenities near by such as ,ice cream shop, grocery store, camp store/ kitchen, clothing store. Clothing store was called " Weekends" which you would think they'd be open on the weekend to get some cool clothes. But they were not. Disappointment. The lake was big as well. Lots of simple activities for kids such as play sets (spread thru our camp) and baseball diamond, beach volley ball net, and horseshoes ect. Heads up the locals in the area at the stores and shops we went too were extremely rude... Most of them about ran my wife over with what ever device they were using suck as shopping carts ,vehicles ,golf carts. Restrooms where good. Fresh cleaned bathroom still filthy on floor.

Very nice but very busy state park. Our site was roomy with a full hook up. We would definitely stay here again.Dog-friendliness: They have a nice area for dogs to play on the beach and in the water. Poo bags are available.

Recommend! New owner/management- very nice updates and changes to menu and items. Well kept and organized and prices much cheaper than previously. They offer more choices on items to use on water as well. Nice beautiful kept beach area and bathrooms too.Restrooms: Restrooms available on site, kept clean and abundant.Dog-friendliness: Designated beach areas for dogs.Picnic area: Plenty of covers and uncovered areas for picnics and relaxing.

Nice state park, but in need of more bathrooms and they need to do a better job cleaning what they do have.

We come here every year to camp and boat, such a beautiful park! We love the walking trail that runs along the lake. The lake is so gorgeous and clean and the beaches are nice white sand. Also love that they have a dog beach! My only complaint is the grass on our site was about 6 inches tall and I had to approach the park workers mowing another site to ask them to mow ours too.

The water is amazing!!! The main issue for us was that there was no separate area for boats and swimming, so there were loud boats everywhere (both engine noise and very loud music). It would be a perfect beach if they would just have a separate area for boaters and swimmers.Dog-friendliness: There is a small dog friendly area. It's really little, but the people and dogs were so nice we didn't really mind the size

Contamination in water I haven't seen before. Was gross. Always access this lake by boat. Beach is a different experience. Didn't like how shallow it was out for hundreds of feet.
