I called and left a message regarding a pet emergency and they didn’t even bother to call back. Clearly untrained employees, non attentive leaders and a lack of empathy or caring for animals and people are the only things I could see as a possible reason.

This place is horrible!! Never able to accept pets, tells you to go to Lansing or Detroit. This area needs a different option for after hour emergency care to put this place out of business. No care or compassion for your pets!!

My dog had surgery and over the weekend when my vet was closed I called there as instructed by my vet. My dogs stitches popped open and he needed to be stitched up again. The receptionist asked if I saw any tissues coming out, which I didn’t. She told me they’ll call me back between 16:00-18:00h to see if I could come in then simply hung up on me. That was 3 hrs away. I called a different vet in midland who took me in straight away. Right at 16:00h they called me but I didn’t even pick up the phone. By that time my dog was back home, staples had been place. One of the rudest and least professional encounters I’ve had so far.

This happened awhile ago but it’s been eating at me; the poor experience I had here. So I want to write a review.I had to take my cat here for overnight care when he had a urinary blockage. He had a catheter in so we had to keep him somewhere safe where he could be watched. Initially we took him here and the second night, after paying so much at the vet and here (about $300 for an overnight stay) we wanted to keep him home with the catheter in and bring him to our regular vet in the AM. We got too nervous and ended up taking him to overnight and told her why we were late since they were expecting us around 7 and we arrived at around 9 PM. When we told the vet we wanted to try to keep him home (in cage, catheter out of reach, he was also so doped up he didn’t have a care in the world) she shamed us. I began to cry because I felt bad, and the whole situation was overwhelming and she continued to shame me and told me the reason my cat blocked was because I can’t contain my emotions. Insinuated I must be unstable and create a stressful environment at home and that’s why he blocked. None of which was true. My cat had bladder stones from his diet containing too much magnesium. They also told us that the catheter was placed incorrectly and they had to redo it. Another $500 down the drain. Which I still to this day don’t believe since I saw urine in the cath bag but didn’t wanna argue/can’t go in since it’s all curbside.Another thing that bothered me is when we signed that we wanted full resuscitation if need be, she asked if we were sure. Like what??I told her my cat is mellow as am I but it’s really hard to cope with these feelings when you aren’t sure if they’re gonna need surgery, if they will die, etc. Which she completely ignored and just went on to talk about how I have to take his future diet seriously. No compassion, no bedside manner, just hurtful words from someone over the phone who probably wouldn’t have the guts to say it to most peoples face. It was really hurtful. Especially when everyone else was trying to help us as much as possible and support us. Telling us most owners can’t afford to keep their pet alive through urinary blocks and put them down.. I’m happy my cat made it out alive. The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of one is aside from the owner vet who was rude, the staff and the younger vet are very nice.I hope the vet reads these and thinks about her character and how to be a nicer human. Especially to people who want the best for their pets.

Took our cat in because he wasn't eating much, drinking much, moving around, had pained meows, couldn't hold his urine. Waited all night and couldn't go in with him, I was told it was Urinary tract inflammation and all his blood work and test came back perfect, it was caused by stress like moving his litter box or something like that. We didn't move anything nothing like that recently. We were given 3 pills and a vile of pain killers that cost an arm and a leg. That was 3 weeks ago, I am sad to say, but once we were finally able to get our sweet Marley into a REAL vet, he had to be put down because he had cancer, and a tumor the size of a golf ball in his back. The real vet questioned how UTI was the diagnosis and said the only option was euthanasia. I understand we couldn't have saved him from the cancer, but we would have liked to know he was in his final days and make them more special for him, truly said goodbye. But no. My girlfriend went from we will get you better Marley to putting him down in 2 min and I blame GLPR for missing that and taking out a chance for us at a good goodbye. Our hearts our truly broken and I hold you responsible for some of that grief GLPEC

They did a great job pulling about 100 porcupine quills from our dog and stapling 2 big cut he had. It’s an ER for animals. Don’t expect it to be cheap and don’t expect to hover over them while they work.

Didn’t do anything, kept asking me what I wanted her to do. I don’t know what is wrong with my dog, that why I came to a vet.Waste of time and money.

Worst place ever don’t take your dog or cat there. My dog was dying she couldn’t breathe. I called and they told me to take her to the U of M She didn’t have enough time and she died.. I have taken my other animals there and the care they received was almost nonexistent. if you love your animal, don’t go here .

Never again. Our cat was having issues with a urinary block. We went to a hospital in flint that just sent us home to wait a few days. It then was so bad he could hardly move back and forth, wouldn’t eat or drink. Barely slept. So we decided to bring him here. The nurse who came out to the vehicle was very nice and even let me into a room with our cat because he has abandonment issues. The so called doctor, belittled me and made me feel like a terrible pet owner, she was very rude, just didn’t care about what I had to say about our baby. He stayed for two nights and then I had to pick him up extra early and transport him to our main vet for further watch and care. They sent him home later that night. Our main vet was very concerned about how tightly the IV was taped on. They said it was Very difficult to remove. That was not normal. They said to keep an eye on it as it may swell because of how tightly Great Lakes taped it. When we got home our cat was dragging his front paw/leg. Swelled like a balloon. I was worried. I waited a couple days to see if there would be any progress. He now limps and hardly uses his front leg. With concern we took him to our vet to have him examined. They believe he may have nerve damage from the IV. And the only thing we really can do right now is wait to see if it can get better if not we may have to do a surgery to look further into the nerves. With that said we tried calling Great Lakes to inform them about what’s going on and they tried blaming it on anything but them selves. Typical. The lady we spoke with on the phone was very rude and did not care of the situation and said she can have the practice manager call you and quickly ended the call. Very unprofessional. And yes we will be reporting this to the society. We went in to fix a urinary block and now are left with possible permanent nerve damage all for the cost of $1800. Please don’t waste your time or money here.

If you care about your pets lives, do not go here. Our cat was initially sick on Tuesday, and our normal vet saw her. Little improvement and severe drop off a few days later, however, our normal vet was out of town due to a family thing. We sat outside from 8pm until midnight while they "looked" at her, plus ran a panel of blood tests. We were told everything was in normal range except 2 things but due to stress, being sick and not being around her normal vet, it's normal. After speaking with the vet briefly, we were given two options. Take her home and continue the treatment given by our first vet (which she wouldn't be home until Monday) or hospitalize her. I asked "if it was your pet, what would you do?" We were told that all the blood work is fine so there shouldn't be a problem taking her home. They gave us some special food and a gel to rub on her ears to make her eat and fluids. Keep in mind, our cat couldn't walk, was barely able to open her eyes, dehydrated (not for lack of trying to syringe feed/water), wasn't going to the bathroom and other symptoms. Anyone with 1 eye could see this animal wasn't feeling well. Not even 7 hours later, I came home from the grocery store and she passed away. We don't have kids so our pets are our world. I called the office and spoke with a very nice office manager and explained our experience and that we feel like they just brushed us (Bella) off and she died due to negligence, but they keep claiming that hospitalization "was an option". While technically I could've done it, I was told by the vet that it wasn't necessary and she would be fine, so there wasn't really a need. I'm sure they'll hide behind the "hospitalization" option being "offered", but we chose to listen to the professional and take her home. Essentially this place doesn't care about the well-being of your pets. They're just out to get you in and out to make a couple bucks (500) for just an exam and fluids, then send you on your way without actually finding out what's wrong with your pet. They also tried to tell us that our normal vet that syringe feeding our cat (which she told us to do due to medicine and keeping nutrients in her), could've caused her to aspirate and die. After letting the office manager know that we believe that the vets lack of care and essentially caused the passing of our cat (which of course they vehemently denied), I spoke with our main vet and she was livid they didn't run additional tests on her and dig deeper on what it could be. I'm sorry for the long message, but I don't want people to go through what we did with this place. The vet techs and office manager are really nice, but the actual vet doesn't seem to care about the pets and just cares about doing a money grab. You'll be brushed off and your pets will suffer if you go here.

GLPE used to be a caring and competent emergency vet 15 years ago. Now they are all about money. Not allowing owners to come inside with their sick, scared pets is just selfish on their part. They are afraid to treat certain breeds and the care they do offer is overpriced and.below average at best. They need to be shut down.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I have never been so belittled in my life as I was today when taking my dog in. Dr. Grant is the most unprofessional, rude, condescending "Veterinarian" that I have ever encountered. Absolutely no passion or empathy when it comes to your pet, all she cares about is getting your payment for service. Don't bother inquiring or asking her any questions regarding the care or state of your pet's condition either because it will just result in her hanging up on you. I wouldn't let her touch my pet rock. Beware before considering taking your animals here...just read the several other negative reviews about her, I think they speak for themselves.

Absolutely worthless veterinarian. A friend of mine took in her dog that accidentally ingested caffeine. The dog was experiencing vomiting, seizures, and rapid heartbeat. The office observed the dog and decided that since it was still alive there was nothing wrong. No care, no effort. Curbside B.S. required my friend to wait outside for 90 minutes. Vet was rude, disconnected call when asked questions. Don't recommend.

i was there last wednesday night, and the customer service i received was terrible. i really didn’t want to write this, but everyone kept telling me i should. i took my cat there, and had to make the difficult decision to put him down, and the staff lacked empathy. they were quick to take payment, and once they got it they didn’t even have the courtesy to say, “you’re all set.” or “i’m so sorry this is happening.” i was bawling my eyes out, and i couldn’t even get told to have a good rest of my night? they literally just took my payment, and walked away. that and you can’t even be in the room with your animal when they examine them. i wouldn’t recommend and honestly would just call your vet in the morning if there’s something, and take them there. it was very disheartening to reflect on how badly they had treated my situation.
