July 2021 by Phil T.
I've been doing online banking for about ten years. Lately, I've run into some problems with that such as, my Discover Card will not accept online banks as a payment method. They are about the only bank that I've come across that won't. Even Goldman Sachs takes my online bank as a payment method for my Apple Card. Last week, I junked an old car that I had. The check was drawn on Huntington Bank, so we took it there to cash considering it was their check. A gentleman named Steve Ahler waited on us and was a super nice guy. I asked him then about accounts there and he explained it all and I left pretty impressed. I asked him what their Saturday lobby hours were and he said the lobby was open from 9-12 on Saturdays. I'm disabled and cannot drive myself right now, so I mentioned that I would be back Saturday morning to open an account. So, I went there this morning which is Saturday, July 31, 2021. There were four employees there. One waiting on drive-thru customers. There were two tellers and another man sitting at a desk. They weren't that busy!I had $1200 in my pocket and just wanted to open an account which normally takes about ten minutes in my past experience with banks. A rather rude woman with glasses informed me then that i needed an appointment in order to open an account. Steve didn't mention anything about having to make an appointment and it doesn't say anything like that on their website that I could find. As a matter of fact, it indicates that they are full service whenever the lobby is open. So, needless to say, I'm not a Huntington Bank customer and am now unlikely to ever become one. The ironic thing is that my son and daughter-in-law and another friend of mine were all considering changing their banks and were also planning on opening accounts at Huntington within the next week. They've all changed their minds also because of this. I truly do not understand businesses today. They act as if they don't care if they get your business or not, even though their commercials and websites state otherwise. These four accounts would have brought about $10,000 a month to this branch. It must be nice to be doing so well that you can pass that up due to employee laziness. I gave them a 2 star instead of the one that they probably deserve due to how nice and informative Steve was when I cashed that check last week. The employees that I met on Saturday though, were entirely different and not impressive at all.
