Relatively young cat was initially seen on 02/02/24 for a mouth sore/growth by Dr. Tina. The veterinarian mentioned off-hand it was likely squamous cell carcinoma without any awareness to imply empathy. I was tearing up and she was focused on getting us back for an appointment to draw labs for planned surgery to do histopathology on the specimen to be obtained which I respected as a physician and as a person who wanted to get things done for my cat, but I also had zero emotional support from the team so that was very weird coming from the healthcare field myself. I know SCC in people, so I understood and was dealing with the news by asking questions to further understand (which were incorrectly answered by the vet, btw); however, I can’t imagine being a layperson knowing nothing and having it thrown out so casually as a diagnosis without emotional awareness. We were told the first appointment was 02/13 for pre-op labs and they would schedule the surgery after. I go in today and our cat is taken back for lab work. I overhear the team behind the wall talking where I hear someone say they “don’t do” cat pre-op labs anymore due to them being hard to obtain. When they bring my cat back to me and tell me they couldn’t get labs, I asked why that is and why the surgery was delayed to get the lab work when their new protocol was to not get pre-op labs and just get labs on the surgical day. This was explained as a mess-up by the new staff and the policy itself was apparently very new due to the center losing a veterinarian fairly recently. I was tearing up and fighting my desire to cry at the desk trying to understand and empathize with their situation, but no one acknowledged my display of emotion or attempted to understand my upset. Now, my cat has surgery scheduled for the 28th, but I will instead be taking her to a vet who is a family friend TOMORROW and was horrified by the story and timeline given to us. It was pure luck someone reached out for us to this person on the off-chance we could get in sooner and we were astonished to be offered an appointment literally tomorrow. 26 days after my initial appointment, she was scheduled to have surgery for a likely aggressive mouth cancer that is known to be fast-growing and increasingly likely to be invasive as time goes on. This was missed on physical exam in January as they likely didn’t look into her mouth and if they did they didn’t mention anything to us.Delays in care cause deaths.———————————————0 stars is my emotional response and 1 star is my diplomatic response: so, I give 1 star as a courtesy.I hope they didn’t kill my baby.UPDATE: Other vet practice did surgery day after (2/14) and my little baby is doing better now. They’re astonished it wasn’t found during the routine physical done in January. They were also shocked when they found ANOTHER MASS in her mouth on a complete awake exam by the new vet before surgery. I am now even more appalled at the experience at VHC and will not be returning ever. I recommend anywhere but here with my whole heart.

I have had 3 dogs at veterinary health center the first two under the care of Dr. Don Sheets who cared for them with wonderful love and compassion, my last dog under the care of Dr. Tina Roggenbeck and her staff have failed at every point and abuse and giving my dog bad treatment. They are all about money, not the patients

November 2023 by My Experience
On May 17, I took my cats to Veterinary Health Center to have blood work, blood pressure and urinalysis taken and asked for the results to be sent to a specialist in Flint; I also mentioned to the technician that one cat was vomiting fairly frequently.A month later, my one cat that was vomiting frequently died unexpectedly from no apparent cause. When I still hadn't heard from the specialist in Flint or Dr. Genevieve about the May 17 test results or my passed cat's frequent vomiting, I called Dr. Genevieve and left a message about this. Dr. Genevieve called me back and said the faxes from Veterinary Health Center showed they were going through but actually weren't because of a problem Veterinary Health Center was having with their firewall/server. When I asked her why I didn't hear from her, she said she doesn't offer medical advice to the owner regarding their pet(s) when another veterinarian orders tests.Had I known my cats would be tested at your practice but the results would not be discussed with me nor any medical advice given, I would have taken my cats to the specialist in Flint to begin with and paid her $901.50.Needless to say, I am taking my two remaining cats to another veterinarian's practice.FOLLOW-UP:As you admit to in your response, your discharge form's wording states, ADDITIONAL diagnostics, not, INITIAL diagnostics. Also, when I called the specialist in Flint, she hadn't received the results from the tests either, that's why I contacted Dr. Genevieve wondering why I hadn't heard from anyone. As I mentioned earlier, when your practice charges $901.50 to run tests, but the attending veterinarian has no intention of discussing the test results or offering any medical advice to the owner regarding those tests because they were ordered by another veterinarian, you should TELL the owner that UP FRONT. I would NEVER pay a veterinarian $901.50 to run tests but not discuss the results with me after.Your current protocol is very unethical and a shady way to conduct business.

Do not recommend taking your pets here. They are awful and all they care about is getting their money. My dad took his dog in, got some shots. He was perfectly fine before his visit. Afterwards his health declined. Took him in on a Thursday and got some tests done. Was told the doctor will give a call the next day on Friday. My dad had to call the next week because the doctor never called. Ended up having to put their dog to sleep.

Veterinary Health Center is great. They really take great care with our furry family members and the whole staff is dedicated to their care. Our dog loves to go to the vets office and cannot wait to see Dr. Genevieve every time we go. They have our families highest recommendation, trust them with your furry family members, we sure do

Very nice people. Took my adopted cat there when I got him because he was showing signs of a sinus infection. They gave him a full health check. And they were very helpful in showing me how to medicate him.

We had to put our sweet Lila (tabby cat)to sleep last week. The staff and Dr. Guinivere were so compassionate and caring. We were all a bucket of tears. It was the saddest thing we have ever done but the most humane. I would recommend them everyday!
